2014-2015 NFL Football thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Yes. I read the cash value of Cutler's contract is $3 million more than the contracts of Rodgers, Newton, Luck, Sanchez and Wilson combined. In a salary cap league, that's a bit of a problem. And yet they'll have the 10th most cap space next year and can get out of Jays contract for just a 3 mill cap hit the following year. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) We have four intriguing arms now that might affect the 2nd half race in Ynoa, Sanburn, Montas and, of course, Rodon. You could also add Webb and Nate Jones, who many were counting on at this point a year ago. Compared to where we were then, that's a veritable bounty of potential riches in the bullpen. Obviously, at least Rodon is expected to start, but it's nice to know we might not have to make a desperation trade at the deadline and can hopefully rely on internal options instead of overpaying. Wouldn't be surprised to see Ben Brewster continue to quickly move through the minors so there'a another name to throw out there. -

Ya, that was ugly, but I'm not surprised. There's just not a lot of talent on the main roster right now. 2 of the most talented guys faced off against each other and another faced cena. I love the Wyatt and Ambrose characters but neither guy is real talented in the ring. I for one like to believe that at some point "The future" will arrive and things will get good and fresh again. I'm guessing, or perhaps wishing, that whoever the new gm or authority or whatever starts a future movement. -
Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?

I know the testing process gets mocked a lot, but I for one like to believe that MLB is truly doing whatever it can to make it as hard to cheat as possible. I'd like to think that Melky is clean now, and was last year when he had a good year, so in my mind I'm rooting for a good clean baseball player...Living in the past is no fun. -

Are there no blue check marks when viewing twitter on a tablet? Also 60 followers? Are we sure that's really Bruce?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 05:30 PM) I do not think Owens meant to drop him against the ring that bump looked bad for Zayn. He used to do it on the Indy circuit so it wasn't a botch...I am a little surprised they let him use it though. Zayn has taken that bump more than a few times. These guys go way back, their feud is gonna be money. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) Do you trust the manager to figure that part out? Uhh, ya.

Helluva show. I think Steen is a little more technically sound/less power based than Bam Bam, but It's not a bad comp. Can't wait to see him in there with someone not named CJ Parker. Holy s***!! That finish! -
Since this has become the outfielder of choice thread I'll throw it out there that I want aoki. He's not dreadful in the OF, and more importantly to me, he profiles as a solid #2 behind Eaton. That's something I really wanna see, Lexi doesn't get on base enough, and he's a double play machine (and I'm not talking defensively). And before someone brings up the lefty lefty at the top of the lineup, Aoki has some real nice reverse splits work in for him.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) How were Saladino's splits in the minors? And I'm not freaking out about this or anything, just a talking point as it is something that needs to be filled either internally or outside of the organization. .934 ops vs lhp last year Not quite as good as Semien but nevertheless pretty damn good.

Micah has been talked about as a possible top 100 prospect. They might give him some more time in AAA but at some point he is no doubt the second baseman of the future.

I've finally been unleashed (Thanks Jeremy, whoever you are on here).... Everything I've wanted to say the past 24 hours has pretty much already been said but I've got this to add... Something that may be of interest in the acquisition of Ynoa is that the Sox had been connected to his brother Huascar back in July. From what I can see he never signed with anyone so maybe getting his brother here will also help bring him in. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) Sale > both of those pitchers I certainly agree, but big picture, when you get a haul with guys like Owens and Betts to go along with Sherzer/Lester You have to wonder if that team might even be better. Not gonna happen though...Too risky. If those prospects don't pan out you're f***ed. But it's fun to think about the upside if those guys panned out.
-
Not gonna happen, but it sure is fun to think about. Trading for a haul then signing Sherzer or Lester would intrigue the hell outta me. But ya, not happening.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) Was just reading that it's looking like the A's will be looking for 2 or 3 "top prospects" for Samardzija. Not sure the Sox are willing to do that. Tear down the farm system for a rental... Thoughts? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/al-c...samardzija.html Depends on how broad their definition of "top prospect" is...Are we talking top 5? 10? 20? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Anyone in the org who has been named, Semien or Anderson, is a guy who could help us right now and in the long term. A qualifying offer pick, a 2nd rounder, has a very poor chance of even getting to AA, or even reaching as far as Semien has gotten. On top of that, our 2nd rounder this year is probably 4-ish years away. A 2nd rounder in 2017 is someone we might think about seeing in 2020-2021. This is not a help in rebuilding. A comp pick is a tiny value compared to a AA level minor leaguer or a guy who is close to reaching the big leagues. They're years away and if they were going to be present in the near future they'd be a first rounder. None of this makes a case to me about this being anything other than a huge rebuilding setback and a very poor idea. "We can spend the money next year" is accurate but it's just silly - why give up a guy who could contribute to our roster for 6 years for a sandwich pick and 1 year of a #3 pitcher if you're not 100% ready to compete this year? If we'd spent $70 million on Victor Martinez and $100 million on Hanley Ramirez to fill our corner OF spot, fine, Samardija would fit with that. That's "all in, we're winning this year". Instead, giving up guys we have long term control over for a sandwich pick, that's backwards. I wouldn't give up Anderson unless there is already an extension on the table....However Semien seems to be a guy who is behind Johnson long term at 2B, Lexi and then Anderson at SS, and he doesn't look like he can really hang at 3B. If they can somehow get Jeff for Semien as the main piece I'd have zero problem with them hypothetically trading Semien for what would be a top 40 pick. And that would be worst case. Best case they can extend him right away or they can continue talks throughout the year and extend him at some point without him hitting the open market -

Hypothetically speaking...For those worried about him being a rental. Lets say we traded Semien and Beck as the main pieces(I'm only trading Anderson if there's an extension on the table)....Would you guys trade Semien and Beck for Spencer Adams or Tyler Danish? Essentially, in the worst case scenario where Jeff leaves you're still getting a top 40 draft pick. I'm confident the Sox would be able to extend him, but losing him might not be the worst thing for the future. -
