  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) I was wanting pitchers from the dodgers and 1 of the 2 whom I thought the dodgers would give in rtn, we got, Garcia. he is being added to the Cuban factor that the sox already has. now, if the dodger still will give the sox more, esp in a trade for Alexei, they really need to sweeten that deal. (dang after I finally learned to spell his name) side note. I am still stunned at their TV deal. Sorry, but I can't make sense of any 2 dodgers pitchers being the return for Lexi. With the Sox seemingly being in win now mode it wouldn't even make much sense to trade for Urias who is still a few years away. It would make sense to trade Lexi to fill another hole but Lexi for prospects, unless it's a guy like Joc who is ready to fill the LF hole, would make no sense at all.
  2. All the reports I've read said they would prefer to trade Kemp simply because they should be able to get a good return vs what would most likely be a salary dump/bad contract for bad contract deal when it comes to trading Ethier/Crawford. I think Kemp gets traded and it wouldn't shock me if it's to the White Sox....It also wouldn't shock me if some other team comes along and offers up better than the Lexi+ package we would have to offer.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 02:35 AM) I totally agree and 1 thing to remember, how old is he??? he has a lot more developmental time ahead. Well actually he's a little on the older side for a guy who's getting his first extended stretch in the bigs (27). However this has been his first time pitching out of the pen in his career and we all know that can be a game changer so to speak.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) I think it's early to call Surkamp trash. He's got some pitchability and throws with his left hand. Even if he's just an up and down guy that's worth something. Absolutely too early. Lefties only batted .172 against him last year and after getting called up the 2nd time in September he had a 1.88 ERA (2 runs in 10 innings). With Duke in here now, who has the ability to get out righties and lefties, Surkamp can be used strictly as a loogy.
  5. Don't wanna start a new thread for him and I think he really fits the bill with this thread so I'll post it here.... Bring me Jonny Gomes to platoon with LaRoche.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) I can't see any way on Earth that "someone taking on matt kemp" involves lowering the payroll obligation of anyone other than the Dodgers. Technically, for the next 2 years anyway, if they do Danks and Lexi thats 25.75M and Kemp is 21M the next 2 years. So you're technically saving the money they paid Duke while also adding a left fielder. But then you're also in the market for yet another SP UNLESS they're cool with Bassitt getting innings till Rodon is ready. In the long run though you're losing money.
  7. Ya, I continue to support Danks, but I'd still be open to Eithier for Danks if the Dodgers are open to it. Eaton-Semien-Abreu-LaRoach-Garcia-Eithier-Ramirez-Gillaspie-Flowers looks real nice. Sale-Q-RHSP-Noesi-Bassitt then Sale-Q-RHSP-Rodon-Noesi/Bassitt post ASB or sooner.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Maybe Erik Johnson looks like he was supposed to look this year, in 2015. Obviously can't count him doing so but it's certainly possible and would provide even more depth should Danks completely fall off or Noesi doesn't continue to look like he belongs.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 07:02 PM) I cannot see them trading Danks. There's just no reason to believe they're going to do that, especially now that we just filled the need of a LH bat. Coop still talks him up, he's one of our veterans, his contract is hard to move, and there's just very little reason to do a bad contract for bad contract swap after the moves we just made. And I of course am fine with this, but I was just hypothetically speaking to appease to those that want Danks gone. I've said many a times that I think Danks is more than fine as a 4/5 starter.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) He has control issues and no third pitch at this time. At what point do you say he HAD control issues. BB/9 Lucas Giolito- 2.6 Archie Bradley- 5.3 Noah Syndergaard- 2.9 Jon Gray- 3.0 Dylan Bundy- 5.4 Frank Mantas- 2.4 That's your top 5 ranked pitchers. Montas had better walk numbers than all of em. The changeup from what I've read doesn't sound like a bad offering, I guess you can say he can "figure that out" but when you have a ++ fastball and a +slider I think you can get away with an average changeup.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 06:43 PM) I could totally see the White Sox doing this, but it depends on how much they really believe in Bassitt. he wouldn't be the only guy in that rotation who spent very little time in AA and up before being tossed into the big league team. I wouldn't do it, but it would fit with the way the Sox act. Been saying this since he got called up. An earlier report said the Sox are looking to bring in a RHSP so I doubt it happens but I for one wouldn't think it'd be that bad of a thing. Or say they do trade Danks, I could see Sale-Q-RHSP-Noesi-Bassitt with Bassitt (Or Noesi if he bombs) moving to the pen once Rodon is ready. If they don't think Bassitt is ready to fill that role and they do trade Danks then I could see them going after a Morrow, Villanueva, or a Franklin Morales to fill that void of a guy who starts in the rotation then is moved to the pen.
  12. For some reference here... The Giants started the year with Ryan Vogelsong as their #5. He ended the previous season with a 5.73 ERA The Royals started the year with Bruce friggin Chen as their #5. You can do worse and compete with John Danks as your OD 5th starter.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 05:21 PM) I hope you're not suggesting a Sale, Quintana, Bassitt, Noesi, & Danks rotation to start the year. Nope. In the previous post I already said that I'm not worried about them not adding another RHSP. So Sale-Q-FA-Danks-Noesi/Bassitt. So really, as a Danks supporter, when it comes time for Rodon to come up we could have 2 guys in excess so I can see where you though I suggested that. Danks or Noesi would have to be traded (Longer you hold onto Danks the less you have to chip into to make it work) or moved to the pen. I really think Sale-Q-FA-Rodon-Danks/Noesi/Bassitt/Beck/EJ would be a strong rotation.
  14. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) Viciedo is one of the worst players in the game. There is so much evidence that documents his sorriness that it is beyond dispute. If he is in line for significant playing time next summer, RH will have failed his offseason report card. In the rotation, Sale, Q, and Noesi (at #4) are givens. Rodon will likely start the year in the minors. That means we have two slots open. Danks should be either dumped or in the pen. In the end I think Tank talk will be irrelevant anyway. Highly doubt Danks gets put in the pen. He's either moved or is the 5th starter. As a 5th starter you can do much worse than a guy who's capable of giving you strong innings a good deal of the time. With Rodon eventually coming up I highly doubt they invest "big" on a starter who will eventually be replaced. That's why I think a guy like Bassitt will start the year in the rotation then eventually move to the pen
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) He still has a lot of work to do. Read up on him. Wouldn't know where to begin. Certainly nothing telling in his numbers.
  16. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) We need: A starting OF An above average 3B Two quality SPs Another RP Backup catcher So I disagree. Like others have said and like dayan just posted the Sox are far from done I'd say. Gillaspie almost deserves another chance so I'd somewhat disagree in the NEED for a 3B. The opportunity to upgrade is there though. Hahn has already said he's not done playing in the RP market so I'm not worried about that. We've been connected to Melky so they're obviously looking to add an OFer so I'm not worried about that. Push comes to shove Tank isn't an awful bat to have in the lineup though. Backup catcher is not really a significant add so I'm not worried about that. 2 SPs is certainly debatable. We know they're looking for a RHSP. Sale-Q-RHSP and some combo of Danks/Noesi/Bassitt should be fine until Rodon is ready. Assuming Rodon pitches like we're all hoping he pitches, Sale-Q-Rodon could be a real solid combo come playoff time.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Seems like the problem with Kemp is that he played atrociously, unfathomably bad defense last year. Like, Adam Dunn kind of numbers in the advanced fielding metrics This is true, but some of the other options on the market are worse. Markakis, Hunter, Joyce, Bruce, Cruz, Rios, and Morse all graded worse....(I'm not sure what to really look at in defensive metrics so I just look at "Def" which I assume to be an accumulative stat). QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) Our rebuild was going swimmingly until KW started making comments to the media. Next thing we know, we're wasting money on a 35 year old platoon player with no defensive value. Not a coincidence, that. The difference here is the Sox are no longer rebuilding.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) You think if we deal Alexei plus for Kemp we could grab another prospect as well? Maybe if we take on his whole salary, but I wouldn't expect anyone that good. Kemp was really good last year, they should be able to get a fairly good return.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) I just looked over Kemp's numbers from last season and didn't realize he did that great. I thought he was hurt for parts of the season but he played in 150 games apparently. Bring me Kemp. I also wouldn't mind Abreu Kemp LaRoche Garcia Gillaspie 3-7 His 2nd half splits are sexy as funk. Again, MVP level. And he's just 30. It's gonna take Lexi+ but I really think it'd be worth it.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) That was A and AA. He has a long way to go. I'm aware, but still those numbers don't look like a pitcher who still has to "Figure it out". He was a pitcher who previously needed to figure it out. When I think "Figure it out" I think a guy like Braulio Ortiz who has a big arm but has failed to do much of anything.
  21. I'm really hoping it's Kemp. Crawford/Eithier are good players but not something to get overly excited about. Kemp however would make me real excited. If he stays healthy he has a chance to play at an MVP level. Eaton-Semien-Abreu-Laroach-Kemp-Gillaspie-Garcia-Flowers-Sanchez/Johnson/Saladino (Assuming it takes Lexi+ to get him) would be pretty damn sexy. Esp. if Semien can finally figure it out at the big league level and starts getting on base more consistently.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) Comment From Guest Montas looking, er, pitching-wise like a SP or still likely a RP? 12:55 Kiley McDaniel: Probably RP, but still has a chance to figure it out. I really don't understand this....He made 15 starts, had a 1.44 ERA, a 0.914 Whip, and 80/22 K/BB ratio....What is left to figure out? I can understand questioning if what he did was "legit" or if he can duplicate anything near that, but I don't really understand the whole "figure it out" after the season he had.
  23. I dig it, thought after VMart he made the most sense. Now LF doesn't necessarily have to a LH hitter....Tomas?
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) Well you go ahead and let me know when you find someone that can maintain what he was doing I'm not saying he has to keep hitting .342 every month but I'm saying I don't think the splits have to be so extreme. He had 1 ridiculous month, 2 goodish months, and 3 awful months. He's a good player, but I do think we may be over valuing him a bit.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) He started off red hot, he had to have that cool down period where his numbers came back to what was expected I don't think anyone HAS to put up bad numbers for months at a time.
