  1. QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) Based on the threads i've been reading this off-season, no one. Every thread starts with "Are we interested in this player?" and within a page becomes an argument. "[X] players has [Y] warts and (trading for/signing) him would literally destroy the White Sox entire franchise." But then there are also people like me who have wanted everyone lol. In a tough decision I went with VMart, Headley, and KRod....but as I sit here I'm thinkin I really want Andrew Miller....but then I start to think about having to have Petricka close and am wanting KRod....And then I'm all like lets just keep Conor disregard Headley and get both...but then I'm all like that's a lot of money spent on relievers.....and then I'm all like so, what the problem is....then I'm like this offseason is gonna be fun....or at least it should be. I have no idea what just happened....just like I have no idea what's gonna happen this offseason.
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) Just to offer a different perspective. Any Shark fans out there consider maybe Oakland wants to keep Shark? After all, they are Losing Lester and Hammel to FA so trading Shark doesn't make much sense from their perspective and could very well force a team to over pay in an effort to acquire him. After all, I'm sure Oakland wants to contend in 2015 as well. Just a thought... That certainly seems like a possibility. I think the rumors are probably stemming from the fact that Oakland is a small market team.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) You're saying only 22 pitchers have posted more than 9.5 WAR over the past three seasons? Yup. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=19,d
  4. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) I wouldn't trade alexei for that bum. Since becoming a starter in 2012 he has the 23 highest WAR among SPs..What a bum.
  5. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) I wouldn't give up rodon no way rodon going be better then shark. I don't think that's ever been suggested, I said he was untouchable. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) Because its the only way to fill a roster with this many major holes if we also are thinking about signing any high-priced free agents. Just to nitpick here but in the VMart thread when I suggested plugging Anderson in at SS 2 years from now you called that rebuilding. I of course agree with it...I don't neccesarily agree that we have "many" major holes. It could be argued that the only true hole is DH and a late inning reliever. I think we can "contend" with Tank in LF and a rotation that will soon be Sale-Q-Rodon-Noesi-Danks. There's certainly room for upgrades at 3B/SP/C and yet another RP to go on top of said hole in the pen but I wouldn't call them major holes.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 12:25 PM) Really? Trade and sign? How many of these have happened? I's like the "flip". That never happens, but it will happen with the Sox. And so what if someone does sign him. There are other FA pitchers out there. What is so great about this guy (other than some weird cub psyche that so many have). And then there's his value. Top prospect? Did Price yield a top prospect? Oak gave up an elite prospect for him, and that price should be cut in half. Further, he wasn't worth an elite prospect to begin with -Beane misread the market badly. So if you figure what he was worth - 1 top prospect and divide it by half, you're left with a decent prospect. At that price, I don't care - sure, trade for him. But for one our best prospects? Ridiculous. I'm sure it's not much of a rarity to trade and extend a player. What's so great about him? How about the fact that he ranked 15th in WAR last year. I'd give up a guy like Semien+. Johnson, Anderson, Rodon, Montas, Adams and maybe Danish are the only untouchables in the minors. A package of anyone else I'm game for.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Wait until he's a free agent and sign him then. Save the prospects that we don't have in abundance. Sox have a marginal chance at the division with or without Shark. Oakland made a terrible deal trading for him and they were contenders (their Lester deal was far superior, despite the hand-wringing over the overrated Cespedes). This would be inane like the Edwin Jackson deal was. The thing there is there's a good chance he's traded and the possibly extended. If he's a player the Sox truly have eyes on I'd have no problem trading for him.
  8. If the Sox traded for Shark I'd have even more confidence in him extending than Heyward. Unless he absolutely blows I see no reason why he wouldn't resign. Were not a team like the Tigers who if they rented a player wouldn't have the money to resign them because their payroll is so big, were talking about a big market team who currently has like a 50M dollar payroll. Hell with Shark bein a Sox fan I wouldn't be surprised if they can convince him to take a deal like Sale and Q have where they're clearly underpaid. If he makes it to the open market there's no chance of that happening.
  9. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) Me too. Good fielder and base runner. In addition to your comments, he doesn't knock in a lot or runs. I don't know his RISP stats but my recollection is that Braves put him at leadoff mid season just for that reason. Doesn't make him a bad guy, but Sox would not be getting Mr. Clutch. Still, He would make the Sox a better team. .301/.388/.389 W/RISP last year. Slugging% is low but he doesn't look like a rally killer either
  10. Money talks, and if the Sox trade for Heyward, and he's their main addition money wise, then the Sox should have a ton of money to throw at him to get him to extend. Yes, I get the whole giving up prospects and having to pay for him, but the way I look at is what if he was already being paid? Would you not trade for him?
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) I'll set up a FanDuel league. Sesrch for NFL Soxtalk Sunday. I'm playing new daily fantasy leagues at FanDuel.com - come and join me! https://www.fanduel.com/entry/AYLDWNOGT?inv...5379&cnl=bd Open an account here https://www.fanduel.com/?invitedby=bjc5379&cnl=da Dude, that's the wrong link..... Here's the correct one... https://www.fanduel.com/?invitedby=beasthart&cnl=da Sadly I'm restricted to a 1 dollar league this week....And I'm liking my lineup as well, this will probably be the week I finish high and because of it being a dollar league vs the 10 dollar league I typically play I'll end up winning like 10 bucks
  12. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) Says the person who's already knocking the Cavs out of ECF. Guys, no one is betting against the Bulls here. I am saying the Bulls just have ways to go. Which should be expected with all the new faces.
  13. That picture is of David Peralta, and is actually a fairly decent name to bring up. DBacks still have a bit of a log jam in the OF with Peralta, Inciarte, Ross, Trumbo, and Pollock And while we're talking DBacks outfielders, former DBack, current Brewer, and Chillihead favorite Gerrado Parra could make some sense as well. Brewers OF has Parra (who's arb elgible), Braun, Khris Davis, and Carlos Gomez.
  14. I've got my eyes on Jose Jose and Sugar Ray Marimom....Oh and Phil Humber, that guy has no hitter type stuff.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) Im not really down with sticking two players with high profile substance abuse issues in the same locker room. Especially considering Hamilton seems to relapse here and there The potential is there for it to get bad, but it could also be a good thing. Hamilton seemed to be fine in Texas with Washington. That could of course be irrelevant or coincidental, and I could also be missing something, but I'd think having a guy who's been there around would be helpful. But ya, I can't deny the risk.
  16. Worth noting Gattis had a somewhat Josh Hamilton-esque path to the big leagues where he dealt with a lot of issues. Some have called him a late bloomer here and that's not really the case. From 2006-2010 he quit baseball, despite being viewed as a player who'd be picked in the top 10 rounds. From what I've read he's certainly a changed man and I'd certainly welcome him here. Hell maybe even getting Gattis and Hamilton together might help both of em as they both have been through a lot of the same stuff.
  17. Semien was the one they tried out there so I'm guessing if any of the MIs get moved to LF it'd be him.
  18. I don't know how to use spoilers, but since everyone knew it was gonna happen......................Prince De.. I mean Finn Balor debuted finally. Crowd was poppin, I was poppin. Can't wait to see those 2 break up and feud.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) Huge offensive addition, but there's lot of indications he's 1) not very good defensively and 2) most of his allure comes from his hitting, but when you move him to DH/LF then you lose a lot of his positive positive as we all know the average offensive numbers from the catching position have been on the decline for a decade. If you could CONFIDENTLY play him at 3B, then I'd consider it, but that's probably the equivalent of Viciedo or Teahen over there, at best. Then you're left deciding to pay a big-time free agent as your DH or give away a lot of talent to acquire an asset, which wouldn't make a lot of sense at this point in the rebuild...since we don't have a surplus of prospects unless you consider Sanchez to be one. Sanchez/Beck/Ravelo for Gattis would be laughed off the phone. His .493 slugging% is only behind VMart, Cruz, and Ortiz among DHs last year, so while yes, his bat is more valuable as a DH it's not like he'd be a bad offensive DH.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) I'd say five to 10 under .500 depending on how the season goes. So you think we're gonna get worse when adding 2 good bullpen arms???
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) I totally disagree with this. This roster is 2 good relievers away from still being 5 games under .500 in my eyes. Meh, I'm just relatively speaking off last year. We finished 8 games under .500, I think adding 2 good relievers makes the Sox pen at least a middle of the pack bullpen. Sox lead the league with 32 losses from the pen, middle of the pack in that category lost 24. Boom 8 wins. I'm somewhat over exaggerating there, yes, but I truly do believe that with a better bullpen this team would already be significantly better.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) This is where I rarely disagree with Dick Allen. This roster is not a .500 roster. Far from that. This is where I often disagree with Greg. This roster is 2 good relievers from a .500 team.
