  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) The half season .682 OPS Cabrera put up in 2013 doesn't scream "Still hitting". At best its inconsistent. Fair enough, I was looking at this years numbers when saying that. I'd still be fine, notice how I've said fine in both posts, with the Sox signing him. I say fine because he's not my top choice.
  2. It's 2 years post steroids bust and Melky is still hitting. I'm fine if the Sox sign him.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) Christopher Kamka ‏@ckamka 30m30 minutes ago Matt Forte is first player in NFL with 10+ rushes & 10+ receptions in consecutive games in same season since James Wilder in 1984 He currently leads the league in receptions. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) ChiTribSports ‏@ChiTribSports 6m6 minutes ago Bears receiver Wilson could return to practice this week http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break....html?track=rss … I personally can't wait to see him back. I've got high hopes for the kid. 3 wide sets with Wilson (6'4"), Marshall (6'4"), Jeffery (6'3"), Bennett (6'6") and Forte out of the backfield should be a lot of fun.
  4. Curious, has Bassitt said he prefers relieving recently, or was it just the interview he did last year with future sox?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) How many times did they ask him to get out and told him they would do it? As you can see in my little profile thing, I'm from Hammond, and the police officer is actually the father of a friend of mine. His daughter is a great girl and the one time I met him he seemed real nice. The video in question is a 20 second clip of about a 13 minute interaction. Was a bit excessive? Perhaps, but what other options did he have if the guy refused to cooperate? Just continue to play the waiting game? Not sure if it has been posted, but that man had warrants in another county and has since been arrested.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) Yeah, but if Masterson doesn't return to form, you miss the playoffs because your rotation is so weak. If you're making such a huge move to upgrade your offense, do your really want to hang your playoff chances on Masterson and Danks being solid starting pitchers when both have lost similar amounts of velocity? If you're doing a move like that, grabbing Puig...you sign a much better starting pitcher and tell the team they're making the playoffs this year. And I'd be fine with that too, the money is there to go after a more expensive SP. Esp. when you consider Puig is signed to a nice little contract through 2018. So you filled your OF hole with an all star caliber player who is owed 4/31 But with all this said I highly doubt Puig gets traded.
  7. Hypothetically speaking if they traded Q+ for Puig they can then sign Masterson for a year and go with Sale-Masterson-Rodon-Noesi-Danks with Bassitt starting until Rodon is ready and then taking over for DAnks should they trade him. Assuming they can get Masterson to revert back to good Masterson that's not a bad starting rotation. I'm saying all that as a fan of Chris Bassitt and thinking he can no doubt be apart of the rotation, and I also believe Montas will be ready to step into the rotation in 2016.
  8. Puig is one of the few guys I'd trade Q for all day. I'd even throw in Anderson and Danish if I had to.
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) Interesting. You do realize that the Giants, Tigers and Dodgers had WORSE bullpens statistically? Speaking of ridiculous posts. If you think Robin got more wins out of this team or last year's team than the talent warranted, then we'll just have to disagree. People want to make excuses for this guy...another reason hiring house horses is a bad idea. Using what statistic? You can make an argument for the Tigers being worse, but they also had a rotation and a lineup to cover it up for the most part. San Fran had arguably one of the best with their league best .217 BAA. Only thing the Dodgers struggled at were walks, and even then they walked less than the Sox. I'm young enough to barely remember RV as a manager so I'm not making excuses for the guy because I was a fan.
  10. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) Signing a ton of free agents always works out. The Denver Broncos agree.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Honestly I would be way more pumped if Sutton and Ferguson turn out to be good tackles and we could save that money for elsewhere. I can agree with this, but it doesn't hurt to have a real solid rotation of DTs. The chances of both Sutton and Ego turning into starting DTs is probably somewhat thin. I looked into the Bears cap situation for next year, right now they're at 105M, with the cap set to go up to 160. Every offensive position but center is locked up (I think DLP comes back for cheap). We probably see Jeffery get an extension as well. Past that the Bears will have a lot of coin to put towards the D.
  12. http://m.espn.go.com/general/story?storyId...amp;src=desktop I know Suh is a major DBag but boy would I love to see him in blue and orange next year.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) Why is Holliday available? That guy was electric as a return man in Denver, did he get hurt? Btw, SS2k5 every time i click on that link about signing a rookie safety, it brings me to the front page of the trib I edited my post... Yes, he was dealing with hamstring problems and was put on IR. I'm assuming if he's working out for teams that the hammy must be feeling better.
  14. Brad Biggs @BradBiggs · 22h 22 hours ago #Bears continuing search for answers in return game. Put Trindon Holliday through a tryout. If he's healthy (Was released off IR by the Giants) he could be a huge addition.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) Montas is a long away from Chicago. Probably a year and a half or two years under good conditions. Even close to three years wouldn't be awful, considering the injury time he lost this year, and where he is in the minors. Seeing as he probably opens the season in AA I'd hope it's not 3 years. If he pitches anything like he did last year I wouldn't be shocked at all if he only spent 2 or 3 months in AA before getting called up to AAA. From there, assuming he continues to dominate, he'll be knocking on the door.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) It's not about being the answer, it was just understanding with how atrocious the defense was last season, the last thing the bears needed was Jay Cutler and his bloated salary. It'd be one thing if he was a sure fire QB but he isn't even close. The Bears are rebuilding and I think it's tragic considering how Trestman has transformed the offense and very well may be the fall guy. McCown protected the ball and managed the game a lot better than Jay has. He distrubuted where Jay fixates and fires. Against sorry ass defenses. Targets have been distributed evenly this year. Jeffery-39, Marshall-37, Bennett-42, Forte-42 I'm fairly certain Trestman had a big say, if not the final say, in what QB he wanted brought back. Jays contract was structured to where if they wanted to add more to the D they could have
  17. McCown did work against sorry ass defenses. He wouldn't have been the answer. BTW, the cap number jumped 10M this year, and is rumored to jump another 27M next season. It think that all coincides with what Jay is making.
  18. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) I understand what you're saying, I just don't agree with spending 12M on him. I COULD see it if the Sox were contenders but not where they currently stand. The thing is, it doesn't really matter whether WE see them as contenders or not. If the FO thinks it then that's all that matters. After arbitration the Sox payroll would be around 56M, adding 12M to that only puts them at 69M and they already addressed the rotation. IF they really think they can contend it wouldn't shock me 1 bit if the payroll is back to around 100M. So we're talking 31M for some bullpen arms, a LFer, and a DH (Assuming Dayan isn't one of those). That seems extremely possible.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) Would think that would set the stage for some pretty hostile labor negotiations. Would certainly think that the cap would see significant increases. Can't find the tweet, but someone said the cap could increase from 63M to 88M in 2016.
  20. 2 Questions. Is AP done for sure? Who's the better pickup, Oliver, Hillman, or Andre Williams? Ball and Jennings injuries look more severe than Donald Browns(Though concussions can be tricky) making Hillman and Williams more valuable for longer it would appear, but Oliver had a huge week.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) Just to be fair, that long play should have been a delay Ha, ya I noticed that. I've noticed it many a times though(The san fran game comes to mind), to the point where I'm thinking maybe the play clock we see is different than the one refs are seeing.
  22. Another thing that isn't being talked about....On that drive where Gould missed a FG, had MartyB done his job and blocked the guy chasing Forte on that 56 yard play then that's probably a TD. That really ended up being a 14 point swing.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) I really don't care what the money is if Masterson is looking for only a 1 year deal, sign him up. I'm in this camp as well. I truly believe if the deal makes sense, for any player, then money won't be an issue. Masterson for a year makes a lot of sense.
