QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) If Clay Harbor goes off today I'm gonna be pissed. Just wanted to say that so if/when I complain about it nobody says "You were gonna start Clay Harbor WTF? BS!".....Had him as my cheap sleeper in fanduel. Got a weird feeling about him, but didn't wanna be wrong about it....My gut steered my wrong last week. Carry on. Oh, and I dumped Jordy Nelson to get a better TE (MartyB) Had I kept Nelson, I would have had TDs from Nelson, Antonio Brown, and Lamar Miller already. This fanduel s*** is intense. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 13, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Nope....Therefore he is garbage =) Speaking of NXT, I wonder if since the Ascension, a tag team, came out if they plan on giving Kenta a tag partner while he continues to learn more english. If so I hope they "let him bring in his own guy" and make it Devitt. That'd be a whole lotta fun.....Them breaking up and feuding would be even more fun. Brian laughs at my booking, but hey, it appears I'm at least partially right so far. They tagged up against the Ascension....No "Cosplay" or whatever. Just got back from some local s*** and er mah gerd, it was turrable. Like literal laugh out loud bad. I had planned on training with the company but my god I'm not even sure I can bring myself to it....Had to go get some booze at intermission to make it somewhat enjoyable. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Would that "really alter the lineup" though? There are another 15 who have an OPS over .817. The difference between a guy at the top of that list and a guy in the mid .800s is huge. Adding 2 of those latter guys, yeah that's a big lineup change. Adding one more of them? Nice contributor, but not going to suddenly turn this lineup into a force. Absolutely it would. Even if that 2nd bat is a guy like Dustin Ackley if they roll with... 1. Eaton 2. Semien/Johnson/Sanchez 3. Abreu 4. Martinez 5. Garcia 6. Gillaspie 7. Ramirez 8. Ackely 9. Flowers/? That appears to be a really strong lineup, and depending on what they do with the catcher position 1 that's only gonna add ~25M. Probably looking at ~75M, so if they do indeed push the 100M payroll mark that leaves 25M for a SP and some pen help.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) No, it can't. Not everyone has the age factor working against them. You want to affect the Tigers' ability to compete using Victor Martinez? Let them resign him and pile up more bad contracts. When talking about the free agent market?? What young FA are we gonna acquire? Because Russell Martin is a few years younger he won't break his Wrist and decline? It can't happen to Billy Butler because he's 29? If they go cheap on hitting and go big on pitching, none of those guys are at risk to tommy john or something like that? There's a risk in every player you sign. There MAY be a bigger risk in VMart, but there's also MAY be a much bigger reward. I don't care about the Tigers. I want the Sox to put out a team that can beat the Tigers, not worry about them having bad contracts. ...... Sox have Abreu for 2 more discounted years then he probably gets real expensive. Couple that with the Sale and Q contracts and the Sox are in a good position to take a "risk" on a guy like VMart. Even at 20M for the first 2 years the payroll is still only gonna be in the 80M range, and with an addition like Martinez I fully expect the Sox to go "all in" and the payroll to be back over 100M. Martinez wouldn't cripple the Sox at all. I said the same thing about Cano last year with a 25M a year contract.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 03:53 AM) Or have one small wrist injury and then it snowballs because of his age. I would have figured Paulie to age better than VMart, but as has been said everything people are saying about Martinez could have been said about Konerko. In the first half of 2012, Paulie looked like he had a HoF push left in him. 500 homers at the least. Then injury. And give me a break with bringing up Fisk. He's one of the all-time great catchers and a baseball legend. He is not the standard. That could be said about anyone though really.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) They should cheer Robin for his stellar work in leading this team to what appear to be successive 90 loss seasons. Know who else had consecutive 90 loss seasons?? Ned Yost. Year before that he had a .433 W-L% but only coached 127 games. -

After doing some research I guess I'm overreacting here. Read that you start light throwing 4 months after your surgery. November would be 4 moths after his late July surgery. "Real" throwing doesn't start till 9-12 months. So ya, that tweet is nothin. Disregard.

Well then..... Chicago White Sox @whitesox 6m Nate Jones said he feels great after surgery & that his back and hip also feel good. He hopes to begin throwing the week before Thanksgiving ....So much for him being out all/most of next year??

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) @Rich_Campbell Bears rule concussed DT Jeremiah Ratliff OUT for Sunday's game against the Packers. Damn, 2 weeks in a row. He was very good the first 2 weeks. Guess I'm just glad all it is a concussion and not something worse. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) Again just to point out...these sort of things were said about Paul Konerko, especially when he had that ridiculous first half of his 2012 season. He then had one small injury that built and fell off a cliff. You literally would never have seen it coming. We didn't and we wound up paying a big salary last year to a guy who was really, really bad. PKs K rate has never been quite as good as Martinez. Since 2008 VMarts K% was never above 11, and the last 4 years it's been single digits. Last time PK had a K rate below 11 was 2003 and since then his best year was 13.9. Martinez never had a season like that in his career. Of course an injury can happen, with any player, at any age, but that can't detour from going after any player.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) Who is that dude right ahead of him at #8? Some stroke named Chris Sale. That further puts a black mark on this whole WAR thing cause that guy blows.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Where did you get that from? Fangraphs. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=19,d I really have no clue how they calculate this stuff, and I do think #9 is a little crazy, but it happened....

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:58 AM) I may as well not start a QB in this one league. Romo, Cousins...ugh Romo vs the Saints SHOULD be a good matchup for him. Tennessee and St. Louis(who Romo faced the last 2 weeks) are both currently in the top 5 in pass defense. -
Thing I love about VMart, and why I think he's got a few good years left in him, is his plate discipline and his eye up there at the dish. He's just a really smart hitter. I think those guys can stick around for quite some time. There was a point this season where from May 21st 2013 to May 5th 2014 he didn't have a single strike out looking. Going back to the ASB last year the dude has a strike out to walk ratio of 60/91 in 802 ABs. That's ridiculous. Even if the power goes away a bit towards the end of a 3 year deal I still think he'll be an extremely valuable hitter. He's just such a disciplined hitter, and I don't think that will change with age. I'd love if the Sox could give him a front loaded deal, or keep the years limited to a 2-3 year deal with a 3rd or 4th year option.
-
Also worth throwing out there, if it hasn't been already, Q ranks 9th among pitchers in the whole league in WAR. That almost feels a little silly to me, but it's true. He's nearly 2 whole points ahead of Shields who is probably about to get paid 3x as much as Q is being paid.

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2014/09/24/...russell-martin/ I know people have said they don't think Pittsburgh will open their wallets to pay him, but everything they've been saying leads me to believe they will. I know they don't really have a history of signing guys to big contracts, but they also never really had a history of winning.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) In 2015, not a chance, (Mind you that I have Rodon being anointed a starter after the break.) but going forward yes. 2015 is going to be another and hopefully the last rebuilding year for the Sox. There are still a lot of holes and question marks going forward and the team needs to acquire assets if they hope to be a serious contender going forward. Quintana is a highly valuable commodity and he would bet the Sox a serious return of prospects as teams are going to overpay for a LHP, who is under 30, a quality start machine and is signed to a very team friendly contract. Having Quintana on the team is good for 2015, but what about the future going forward? You realize he's signed through 2020 right? Even if next year is still a "Rebuilding year" the Sox still have him under control for 5 years after. Those 5 years are also his age 27-31 years which should be his "prime" years. I'm not even sure I'd do it for Urias and Pederson/Seagar....I'd probably have to get 1 more good piece back, like a Paco Rodriguez.
