QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) I actually agree with you guys on this, if the White Sox find the right fits, they could absolutely justify adding $40 million or so to the payroll, but the key is going to be getting something done successfully via trade first because $40 million spent solely in FA doesn't make this team a contender unless someone over-performs. They could certainly justify 40M on the market if the rumors of them wanting Martinez are true. I know a lot of people don't want him or don't see it happening because of his QO but I for one can still see it happening.....Could probably say the same should they decide to go after Russell Martin who is gonna cost a pretty penny as well. 1 of those 2 guys alone is gonna cost 12-20M. Even without those guys it's plausible but everything would have to go right and they hit on a SP, 2 bullpen arms, a LFer, and a DH.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) The one problem they are going to have is many teams who spend a lot of money are looking for the exact same things the White Sox are looking for. So the top pf the line guys are going to cost a lot in either cash if they are free agents or talent in a trade, so I would imagine most of the White Sox holes are going to be filled by lower tiered guys they think project well. That's where my 2nd sentence comes into play. I'm sure they'll be in on all the guys that make sense for the ball club but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll win the bidding on all those guys. I'm merely saying that if they can make sense of 45-50M in new money that it can happen. I mean with arbitration to Flowers, Noesi, Jones, and Guerra the payroll will only be 47M so the 45-50M wouldn't even put the payroll over 100M....The possibility exists that some team might take on Danks as well so that's even more.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) 0 chance I still don't understand why this is so impossible. IF the players they're signing all make since I could certainly see it. Now the chances on them being able to "beat" every other team on these guys that make sense might be rather slim, but hypothetically speaking if their offers do get em I don't see them capping their spendings.

I just wanna share my love of Katie Nolan to the masses. Never heard of her till about an hour ago and now I'm binge watching all of her youtube videos...

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) What about Torii Hunter? Yeah, he's almost 40, but it's not apparent when he plays. He still hits well, he would make a better LF than Viciedo, and maybe even a better RF than Garcia, he is baseball-intelligent, and he has veteran leadership qualities with playoff experience. Probably not too expensive, either. According to fangraphs he was the worst right fielder in all of baseball by a wide margin....If we go with an old right handed outfielder, I'd rather bring in Cuddyer.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Why would we think Shea could even be decent in a 3-4? He has zero pass rushing skills. Simply because that's what he was thought to be coming out of the draft. We really have no clue what sort of pass rushing skills he has as a 3-4 LB in the NFL because he hasn't been utilized in that way. There were no pass rush skills apparent as a DE simply because he was undersized and once the OT got a hand on him his speed was shot. I certainly could be wrong, and he could totally blow, but next year is his last year under contract so he's got a year (or less) to prove himself. Cornelius Washington is another guy under contract next year who could be tried there next year. -

I'm ready to switch gears and go with a 3-4. This keeps Bostic on the field for coverage purposes and allows the Bears to pair him with a run stuffing ILB to kinda help cover up his flaws in the run game. Jones might be that guy. SMC is then allowed to play the position that had him highly regarded in the draft...Thinkin Willie Young could be solid standing up, but wouldn't hate to see a young freak drafted to play the position. -

Ugh, been averaging 164 points a week, scored 170 with Terrance Willams and Dan Bailey still to go...I'm losing by 83....God Damn Poindexters And for my weekly frustrating post about fanduel.....I played Vereen, Nelson, and R. Wilson...Completely wasting my Brandon Lafell and Miami D picks. Those 3 combined got me 24 points. Miami got me 28, Lafell 23.9 -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Anderson went 0/4, K Bassitt- 1.2 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 4K. Kicking some ass so far! Snoddy- well, he pitched, looked like s*** and that's all I'm going to say. Kevan Smith went 1/4, K When does Bassitt start getting more love around here? Dude has been legit this year. 84.1 innings stretched across the minors, majors, and AFL 2.57 ERA 87/33 K/BB just 2 HRs(none in 29 ML innings). Couple that with an impressive 2013 season and I believe he was equally impressive when he converted to the rotation in 2012. I'm curious as to why he's not even in some peoples top 10 (and really I'm beginning to question my own 7 or 8 rating). Is it merely because of talk that he prefers relieving? I hope they let him start before he proves he can't, because so far as a starter, he's been legit. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Managers just don't matter that much. I'm not too worried about it.
-
Have to imagine he already has a team in mind and I highly doubt that it's Sox. Cubs make wayyy to much sense since with all that young talent they'll look to emulate the Rays in a way.
-
Am I the only one who thinks the whole "He's pitched 1300 innings and is only 26" thing is a tad bit overrated in reference to Kenta? Would you guys not wanna sign Clayton Kershaw because he has 83 more innings than Kenta at the same age? Madison Bumgarner is on pace to have more, would you not sign him? King Felix had 1600 at age 26. I could probably find more, but you get my point.....Now I know the point consists of comparing Kenta Maeda to some of the games elite, but I'm not comparing their stuff or them as pitchers. Merely saying that I think the whole the fact he pitched so many innings at a young age is largely overrated. Sign me up for Maeda if he posts. From what I've read he reminds me of his old teammate Hisashi Iwakuma, who has been pretty impressive since coming over.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) With Danks' contract still on the books, they're not going to take on another bad contract in BJ Upton. Their operating style has always been to trade away prospects instead of eating the costs on the accounts payable line. Hahn has already said they might take on a bad contract. Payroll is so low that they can quite literally do whatever they want as long as it makes sense. If they can make moves, that make sense, that put them over 100M I wouldn't be shocked one bit. Now I'm not specifically craving the deal that you responded to but I'm just sayin. I know you're of the belief that attendance effects payroll and all but ya, I highly doubt that.
-
Not sure why they'd give up Heyward, but I'd love to have em.
-
I'd give up somethin like Sanchez or Viciedo and 1 of the 2 and few mid tier guys for Lind. He's always been able to hit RHP at a decent to well above average clip, even in his down years (Worst year was 2010 where he still had a .829 ops vs RHP.).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) You guys need to start playing daily fantasy on FanDuel or DraftKings. You aren't stuck with the same lineup of busts or injured players, you can mix it up every week and you can win money each Sunday. Although it can become addicting, lol. (And if you would like a referral link, I'd be happy to provide one ) Fanduel makes me sad. =( -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) But his ERA if you take out his 6 best starts, his ERA is 5.78 (or something, I don't remember). You can't just take out his worst or his best starts and assuming everything is roses. Let's rephrase this. If someone said "I will take John Danks for free off of your hands," what would your response be? If they said "I will do it if you include Matt Davidson and we give you nothing," what do you say? If they say "if you eat $5 mill of his remaining deal, we'll take on his deal," is that too much? At what threshold are the White Sox eating too much value to move John Danks? Is there a combination that you wouldn't move him for? I know for certain that if a team was willing to eat his entire contract, I'd give him away without a second thought. That's because those 6 starts were absolutely atrocious. I mean were talking about 44 earned runs in 28 and a third. 14% of his innings pitched he gave up 43% of his runs. I've already said I could go either way about trading him just because he's making a ton of money. I haven't said he's earned the money whatsoever, I'm merely saying as a 4/5 starter I'll take a guy who gets shelled once a month. I just don't see it as a priority. -

What's strange is of those 6 dreadful starts, 5 were against teams who had worse records than the Sox. Whereas in his 11 starts against playoff teams he has a 2.64 ERA. #BigGameJohn -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) Take away Edwin Jackson's worst 8 starts and he has a 4.20 ERA. Why do the Cubs want to dump him so bad? 4.20 isn't 3.18 though....If the number I was cherry picking wasn't really good, like I think 3.18 is, I wouldn't even bring it up. -
