QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) We're inside 10 weeks left. It's almost over. I pray they call up Wilkins if they trade Dunn....I just hate seeing Paulie be this bad.

PK is absolutely brutal. GB is absolutely brutal

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) Bassitt starting for the AZL White Sox. Had a 3-inning outing last time so could be Rodon time in about an hour. I somehow missed the news...Glad to see he's back, still think he can be something in a couple years.
-
Time to get someone warming up.
-
Trout did the same type of slide in the All Star game. Goes for naught though
-
Called it.
-
I think he was in there. Dat slide

QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) You must also agree with my idea of simply fouling off any potential ball 4 then too, right? When you have Dunn's power, taking a walk is absolutely ridiculous. Lol. No. When he gets a strike, which is what I assume you'd want him to bunt, he needs to swing the bat.. I'm done with this, it's silly.
-
not definitive IMO

QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) LOL gimme a break. He should now start to foul off any ball that's not going to be a strike in a 3-ball count so he can hit more dingers!! When you have Dunns power you don't bunt.....Plus he's slow so it's probably gonna take 2 hits to get him in anyway. Saying he should bunt is absolutely ridiculous.
-
He should have bunted though! there was literally no one on the left side!
-
Dunn!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) The shift is just ridiculous in baseball now. There were no baseball players on the left side of the infield for Dunn's at bat. You just have to bunt in that situation. It's just insane that players don't plop bunts down against these shifts. Not one player on the left side. Embarrassing for Dunn. Did you see the shift for your boy Paulie? Albeit less drastic the 2nd baseman was playing behind 2B, creating a HUGE hole. All he needed to do was hit it through the hole.... Dunn is indeed a power hitter, you don't ask him to bunt the ball to the left side, that's just silly. With a runner on 3rd is about the only time that is acceptable for him to do.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) If anything, I just think the Astros have Danks' number. He's been decent outside of the starts against Houston. Wow, just noticed this as well... Take out his 2 starts against Houston this year and he has a 3.66 ERA with just 11 HRs in 113 IP vs 4.35 and 16 in 124..

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Why do they need to spend money? Spend it to make a difference, not just for the sake of spending it. Leave the payroll space open to absorb a contract in a trade or to fill a final gap when the team is ready to contend. There are a couple international free agents that could fill in the hole in LF, but the team still needs to find upgrades in the rotation, C, and fill the hold that is created at DH after this season. To me, they're ready to contend next year. Had Avi not got hurt and they figured out the bullpen earlier they'd be right in the thick of things.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) Chris Sale pitching in the bullpen in 2011 is literally my least favorite idea the White Sox have had in the past decade. I thought at the time it was terrible and I think today it was terrible. I think this is a real straightforward position. I'm not spending money on the rotation next year unless Danks is cleared. If they don't clear him then that seems like they're going to ride it out with him and figure things out potentially after 2015. Where are they gonna spend the money? Again, even with Danks and Lexi staying around the payroll after arbitration will probably be much less than 60M. Unless they plan on starting Rodon right out the gate.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) I would not spend the money on a starting pitcher for the front of the rotation if Danks was not moved. That would just leave too many arms when you count Rodon, and from the White Sox's POV you have to count him as arriving in the near future. I am not going to spend $15 million+ a year on a pitcher if there's any chance that pitcher blocks Rodon. If they can't move Danks, then look to spend that money elsewhere. I don't see why not. I highly doubt, unless he absolutely bombs, they couldn't "dump" Danks whenever Rodon is ready....And I'm not 100% convinced Rodon will even be in the 2015 rotation at any point....Remember if he follows the same path Sale did, Sale pitched 2 years of relief before starting.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) I think Shields having somewhat of a down year brings his price down a bit. Getting rid of Danks would allow us to be in the sweepstakes for him. Assuming the payroll is around 90M they'd have the money regardless. With Danks and Lexi included the payroll is 43M.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) If the White Sox intend to field a competitive team in 2015 and they had previously moved Danks, yes I'd spend the money on him (assuming the pitching coach and training staff were game), he'd cover their needs very well and provide a real strong cog in the rotation. I really think they could realistic get Shields while also keeping Danks. Sale-Shields-Q-Noesi-Danks.....Let Rodon chill in the minors for a bit then trade Noesi/DAnks.....Longer they keep Danks the more baluable he becomes, assuming he's still throwing QS over 50% of the time.
-
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) and even if they were to somehow play well enough to get a wild card spot, I'd rather get some return on Danks while he's not getting lit up. Remember, the point of this whole thing to create a sustained contender, I would rather build to that than 1 wild card spot. IF they can get a good near MLB player then yes you do it....But if the "Dump him" crowd are right/get their way and they get nothing more than cap relief, which the Sox don't need, then that doesn't really set them up to be a sustained contender. They have money to add a SP and a DH while also keeping Danks. If you trade Danks you then need to add 2 SPs and what are the odds they'll be able to get 2 better than Danks, salary ne damned.

At least they're trying...Who knows, maybe Cleveland pulls back Wiggins and GS continues to be against trading Klay. With Wiggins supposedly close to signing his deal we're gonna have another 30 days of drama. -

Can't wait to watch a Sale-Q-Noesi-Carol-Rienzo rotation for 60 games
