QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Watching De Aza be stupid at the game of baseball versus watching the advanced stats. He hurts his teams. So does De Aza. I won't be sad when either are gone. But advanced stats rule all man! You can't not look at them! -

Robin should be fired for sitting Tyler in the midst of his hot streak. Inexcusable -

Just out of curiosity, what exactly are these Torre/LaRussa/Cox qualities we're referring to? -
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) I can't believe that Robin didn't ask him to start wearing glasses earlier in the season. He should have been told "either wear your glasses or go home" Lol now you're really reaching with your Robin hate.

Kinda intrigued to see what Bassit brings. I was high on him last year.

Don't follow the minors as closely as I should but I'd go with..... 1. Rodon 2. Anderson 3. Johnson 4. Montas 5. Hawkins 6. Davidson 7. Danish 8. Trey M. 9. Adams 10. Beck 11. Micker 12. Ravelo 13. Dyksta 14. May 15. Engel 16. Saladino 17. Bassit 18. Lopez 19. Wilkins 20. Recchia 21. Fisher 22. Fry 23. Smith 24. Barnum 25. Mitchell 26. Coats 27. Thompson 28. Jirschele 29. Peter 30. Brewster (Like what I've read about the kid, think he could be a lefty out of the pen in the near future)

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) Again, I'm not using the word lucky to describe John Danks. I'm pointing out his peripherals and suggesting that he's not suddenly going to be a 3.00 ERA pitcher. He's an adequate back of the rotation starter. I don't believe him to be one of the worst starters in baseball. Frankly, all I've said that is quality starts is a poor statistic to use because it only tells part of the story. You have to look at the big picture. Do you disagree? I don't disagree. All I've said is that John Danks is not a very valuable commodity and that his statistics indicate that he's going to remain about where he is ERA wise. He's not a great pitcher but he's an adequate back of the rotation starter. I also happen to think that advanced stats make baseball incredibly interesting. I guess I'm just cherry picking the times where they go against a player I root for, which is probably silly, but still. If there were no advanced stats and you told me only 19 pitchers in all of baseball had more quality starts than John Danks I'd be a happy man about having that guy as a 3rd starter. But now we have some people calling him one of the worst starters in baseball.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) Why is the 20% unlucky? I'm not saying it's unlucky. It's baseball, everyone is gonna get roughed up from time to time....I'm just saying, it's about 2/3rds of the way into the season and in 80% of his games he's been solid. Advanced stats has really taken a lot of fun out of baseball...and this message board.

If a pitcher has a sub 3 era for 80% of the time and is bad 20% of the time.....Why is it that the 80% is lucky?

You guys remember when Ozzie batted Timo leadoff a few times in 05? Ya, that season sucked, I'm surprised Ozzie wasn't fired after that year. -

If they don't see Nieto as the future I think the more realistic trade would be Lexi for Sanchez+ in the offseason. I've been a huge Danks supporter but I'd be a little surprised if they can get Sanchez for him. JRM just doesn't excite me. If they think Neito has a chance in a year then Martin/Suzuki make sense for a year.

Tie Kemp to top prospect, Lester on the move?
2nd_city_saint787 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) So, are Seager or Pederson going to be worth $70-80 million over the next 6 years? Perhaps, but that's an incredibly risky proposition. I think that's probably what you'd hope their peak value to be in the first 6 years. If they completely bust, then you're left with an albatross of a contract and a busted prospect and lost service time for other prospects too. Best case scenario, you get a decent hitter in Kemp, a really good hitter in Pederson/Seager, and you are still paying $21 mill a year for the combo. Worst case, Kemp continues being a mediocre hitter, the prospect busts, and you're looking at $21 mill per year for 0 production. And people are upset about Dunn because he can't really play the field and he strikes out a lot. That would put Dunn to shame. I think if it were BJ Upton we were talking about instead of Matt Kemp (4 years, $60 million or so left), it'd be worthwhile to have this discussion, but I can't imagine it being anywhere close to worth it with Kemp. That's where the "If the Sox think they live up to their top 20 ranking" part comes in.....If they are fairly confident that Pederson or Seagaer is the LH bat to pair with Abreu for the future then I'd make that move. Still a risk even if they are "confident" but nevertheless, with their contractual obligations, and the incredibly team friendly deals given to Sale/Q, I believe it could be a risk worth taking. I'm sure I'm wrong somehow, but looking at the payroll for next year, even adding Kemps 21M puts the sox at 64M. Nate Jones is really the only guy they have to pick in arbitration. They could realistically add a SP, a catcher, and some bullpen pieces and still be around a realistic 95M. But again it's moot if they don't give up Pederson/Seager. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) My 2 cents: -Robin is a dogs*** manager. He's probably nowhere near "worst ever" territory but he's bad enough to where you call him that out of anger. Fans emit emotional responses & overreact to everything, what's new? Robin is bad though, so calling him the worst manager ever is like me calling Big Frank the best hitter ever. Yeah it's an overreaction, but so what? Frank was still incredible & Robin still blows. -Robin's players like him and will play for him. Because of this maybe it's Parent you can & hire someone else to manage the game while Robin is a figurehead/media guy who handles the non-baseball issues & keeps things in order. That could work. -Robin is an organizational hire. He's here because he's not going to step on the toes of those above him & also he's here because of the leadership he showed as a player. My only issues with Robin have been on-field issues, so maybe you bring in someone else for the game decisions and everything is kosher. But if you want Robin making the on-field calls all the time then you should expect to lose close games. That's that, he's a s*** game manager. But because his players will play for him, he's a better manager than a quality game manage who looks to divide the clubhouse and/or can't relate to the players or can't keep the media at arm's length. In summation, I have OPs back if you guys wanna turn this thing into a battle royal. OP overreacted but we all do, but not enough to where his points lose validity. Robin is a s*** game manager and that's that. I think he's perceived as a "s*** game manager" by some because his bullpen, for the most part is crap. In the end it's essentially the players that make a manager look good or bad, not the other way around. -

2nd_city_saint787 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) Hahn has been bringing in good, young, cost controlled players into the franchise. Kemp is not good (-0.5 WAR the past two years combined), he's not young (will be 30 on September 23rd), and he's not cheap ($107 million over the next 5 years, which is just over $21 mill per season). The idea of bringing a prospect along with that is not nearly attractive enough, even if it were Pederson, Urias, or Seager (which the Dodgers wouldn't do anyways). Then it's moot point anyway. If they were to be included I'd have to really think about it. At some point they're going to add some payroll and if they believe Pederson or Seager live up to that top 20 prospect hype IMO that's a worthy investment. I think the moves Hahn previously made make a move like this possible. But I don't even think about it unless one of those big 3 players are involved(Mainly Pederson or Seager)......That's what this thread/the tweet in the OP is about though. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) The Sox would be insane to even be involved with this in the first place. It goes against anything Hahn has tried to create. Meh, I'm not even sure what that means. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) If it happened, it would be the first time. It won't be any of the big three, though. Then no thanks. If they could get Pederson or Seagar, that would make things interesting. Depending on what they wanted back I think I'd do it if they gave up one of those 2. -

Price Devitt officially signs with WWE....Must be the International signing period in wrestling too. Those who don't know him should youtube some of his entrances. It'd be real cool if WWE lets him continue to dress up in different outfits and body paintings. Think a "serious" Sandow almost. You can see his Joker, Bane, and Hannibal on youtube along with some of his body paintings.
