  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Give us 62 million and we'll take him for our dh. We'll give you Jared Mitchell too. I'd rather resign Dunn.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) Sounds more like a punishment. I just get the garlic parm bread sticks for like 2.50. So damn good. And to an earlier poster, it's every game they score 5, I know this cause I'm a fat kid. Back to baseball......This time last month the Rays were 11 out and now they're just 4. With 9 of the next 12 against teams with worse records than the Sox it may get interesting. Those 12 games are followed by good teams the rest of the way though. I'd say the only really chance they have is if they go something like 8-4 in these next 12 and then Avi comes back shortly after and provides a spark plug along with Lindstrom/Jones coming back and providing some stability in the pen.
  3. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:04 PM) Let's string some wins together 6 more games with these strokes in the next 9...Actually when you include the Rangers series that's 9 of the next 12 games against teams with worse records than the Sox.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:05 PM) We just have to jump 6 other teams. Bolieve. For those who have never stepped foot in the squared circle thread.... Solid victory tonight. Nice to finally see some decent offense. Half priced papa johns for all!
  5. Seeing Dunn go station to station is exactly why you don't have him bunt.
  6. Not to mention his 5 doubles in that time period which doubled his double total for the year....Certainly not ready to say he's turned it around for good, and if they can acquire a catcher at the deadline I'd still do it, but he has certainly looked better since wearing those magical glasses.
  7. If it is going to happen I wish they woulda just got it over with.....I'd assume signing him would better help match up salaries and that's why they didn't just trade his rights. Right?
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Gibson + Snell + Picks. At that time it wasn't a sure think Niko was coming over so really that's about the best they could do without adding Noah which most here said was counter intuitive. Talking to a Wolves beat writer on twitter(just yesterday) he said Wolves are probably more interested in Snell than Butler because Butler is due $$ next year. Plus, if Klay Thompson wasn't on the table that's a competitive offer to Barnes/Lee. Those 2 are better players but the 2 picks in the teens in this draft kindaaaa makes up for it.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Well, this is the same front office that sat on their hands many a time before preaching team and playing it safe. This is the same front office that didn't go after Kevin Love until after Andrew Wiggins was already on the table (despite the fact that, for the right offer, he was highly available while they were trying to pry a player away from his hometown and the biggest city in the country and offering $50 million less to do so). There's plenty of blame for the front office, here. If you believe the previous reports that's simply not true, I don't remember what the offer was but they supposedly did indeed have an offer in to the TWolves before the draft.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) No one was even blaming the Bulls front office. Scs just gets weirdly defensive of them. It's bizarre. But I'll play now. Really the Bulls had similar assets as to what they have now. Gibson, Butler, rights to Mirotic, 2 first round picks. What potentially screwed us was waiting to focus on Love. The Cavs got Wiggins and Lebron. I just find posts like "It's the Bulls FO, they have a 0% chance of making it happen" to be ridiculous and I explain why I feel that why. Why is that so bizarre? This is a message board right? Last year I was talking about trading for Love and people told me the TWolves "weren't trading him", and "they had no reason to trade him"....There's a reson why this is the first year we are actually hearing Love rumors. Previously it was just a pipe dream.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) Why is Wiggins the easy choice? Weren't pundits talking about possibly trading that #1 pick for 2 top tens in a loaded draft? That's essentially what Minnesota is getting here, plus a really good player in Taj. IMO that beats a deal involving Wiggins and scrap. Cavs have to offer up Bennett and some first round picks in order for me to pull the trigger on that deal over the Bulls. Especially if Flip wants to "win" now and compete for a playoff spot. And I tend to agree with this as well, but that's just me. If I were the Twolves I'd take the better package over the better player. Bulls package IMO is better. I can certainly see the argument for taking the best player though, it's not what I'd do, but it makes some sense.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Your posting as if this pursuit of Kevin Love is 24 hours old when it's actually 17,500 hours old. And what exactly did the Bulls have the last 2 years they could have traded for Love, who didn't have to traded whatsoever. He's expressed displeasure with their FO in the past, but never demanded a trade...Nor has he this year for that matter.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) There's nothing you can do. And if the #1 pick in the draft wasn't available, it's pretty much a no brainer the Bulls offer should be taken, assuming everything is accurate. But we all knew Melo was going to stay in NY. We all know Love is going to Cleveland, we all know the Bulls will get another 2nd place ribbon, yet we all still think there's a chance like me when I buy a powerball ticket. Minnesota is going to get a nice return for a guy that was going to flee anyway. If it was me, as much as I want him to be a Bull, I cannot pass on Wiggins. I really like McBuckets and I think Mirotic has a chance to be exceptional, but IMO Wiggins is the best player. Stars are the hardest thing to acquire especially when you have to sell Minneapolis in the winter and a franchise with no playoff appearances. Wiggins is the best bet to be a star. Exactly.....If anything we should be faulting ourselves for getting our hopes up. There's literally nothing the FO could have done differently to make these happen. There are 29 other teams in this league, in the case of Melo, 1 of those teams could offer significantly much more money, and it just so happens that team resides in his "home town". And in the case of Love, 1 of those other teams just happens to have a potential superstar, "The greatest wing since Lebron", to offer, and they just so happen to have the greatest superstar of our generation on that team making it a desirable location to extend long term. I just don't don't understand how we can fault the FO for trying. They're offering up a guy who should have won 6th man of the year(Taj), a guy who the TWolves supposedly covet (Dougie), and a guy who was talked about as a lottery pick in this "loaded" draft(Niko). If the Twolves wanna take the best player vs the best package, what can you do? Outside of adding Noah, which makes no sense, absolutely nothing.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) I think we all already knew you wouldn't blame the front office, scs. Because I think it's absolutely foolish to do so.
  15. This thread was actually goin good....Sigh. If Wiggins is involved and they (The Wolves) think he's gonna be a star, what can you do? If the reports of the trade offer is true they're putting forth one helluva effort, much like they did with Melo, and I can't fault them for not getting it done,
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:27 AM) At this point, the FO has to just make it work. It may not look feasible to us, but the bean counters tend to do a lot of magic when things like this happen Messing around with NBA trade machine, Bulls would have to send back 18M in contracts to make it work....Niko/Taj/DMD is 15.5. So pretty much they'd either have to include MJD or Butler and Snell. Trade MJD...Convince Marion to play for the min....go with... Rose/Hinrich/Brooks Martin/Butler Marion/Snell Love/Pau/Bairstow Noah/Pau/Naz ...Championships
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:50 PM) Gasoline? 24 saves and five blown saves in this day and age? I'll take it. Especially being in Chicago he was very comfortable and in my opinion would have had another fine season. He's a fine relief pitcher. Geez. Hahn blew it big time having no bullpen, absolutely no bullpen. I simply disagree that Nate would have done the job. Not with his control and his bizarre delivery. I don't like him as a prospect at all. It cost the Sox a shot at the wild card that is for sure. Nate Jones last year averaged 3.00 walks per 9 last year, Reed had 2.90. So there isn't that much of a drop off at all when talking about control. I know I hate FIP, but Jones FIP last year was 2.64 while Reed was at 3.17, meaning Jones was the much better pitcher. Again using the FIP stat, his FIP this year is 4.74, that is apparently really bad. Jones would have been fine as the closer....and really Lindstrom was too for the most part.
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) When Greg said that the trade was "laughably bad" it was probably an exaggeration, certainly an inaccurate adverb. No one here is laughing. But it was not a good trade. It'll likely take another year before the trade can be accurately assessed, but I'm sure Hahn did not forsee Davidson hitting .210 in AAA with gobs of strikeouts. Reed now up to 24 saves by the way, which is a fairly predictable level for him. In hindsight maybe it wasn't good. Sadly though Hahn doesn't have a crystal ball. I can't call a trade that made perfect sense bad though, no matter what adverb you throw in front of it.
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Are we just assuming Martin comes with Love? I love that possibility but more or less wondering where it's coming from... Ya, not sure how that would work financially.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) The Charlotte homer numbers are insane at their new park. Don't just look at Wilkins numbers, look up and down that line up. Danks is already at a career high too. Carlos Sanchez who had three homers in 5 years, has five homers. Takotte has gone from 4 homers to 11, in few ABs than last year. Davidson has more HRs already than he hit in the PCL all of last year. Look at his splits though... Home- .264/.280/.538 13 HRs 34 RBI Away- .298/346/.590 12 HRs 34 RBI I'm really not sure what to think of him though. Worth a look if they can unload Dunn though.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) It's hard to believe this team would have been a wild card contender if it didn't have a laughingstock of a bullpen. Hahn "almost" put together a WC contending team in a short period of time. He made one trade too many. The Reed trade was laughably bad w/out a closer still on the roster. I realize Reed isn't all that great, but he was comfortable in Chicago and I think he'd have been a great ninth inning option all year leaving the other bodies for the set up roles. It's getting bad again vs. Central teams. Sox truly are the worst team in the division sadly, when Minnesota isn't even trying to put together a good team. Hahn said that the plan at closer was gonna be Nate Jones. In his eyes they had a closer on the team, he just so happened to have gotten hurt before the season started. Calling the trade laughably bad is silly. Hindsight it hasn't worked yet, esp with Gillaspie hitting the way he has, but Hahn apparently had more faith in Jones than Conor.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:01 PM) No lose situation for Bulls with the offer, IMO. Does Cleveland have a deadline to sign Wiggins? Not sure but a Cleveland beat guy says.... Jason Lloyd @JasonLloydABJ · 3h #Cavs expect to receive Andrew Wiggins' signed contract paperwork on Thursday. Thus will begin 30-day clock when he can't be traded.
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) So is Wilkins up by August 1st? If Dunn is gone. He may have "forced their hand" a bit and they may be willing to take a lesser offer or chipping in more money to trade Dunn.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) please. his knee happened to hit the glove. Ya I guess calling it a good play by him is a bit much...It was just a tough break, and I'm not just saying that because I've been pro Flowers the last few days. I caught in high school and that happen at least once or twice to me so maybe that's why I'm "giving him a break".
