QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 3m USA gymnast McKayla Maroney did two cartwheels off the mound before throwing her ceremonial first pitch. #WhiteSox http://instagram.com/p/rLNcApFsa3/ Oh she fancy huh? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 05:27 PM) 1) Brandon Moss isn't going to be traded by the A's, just because Cespedes was... 2) Those trade ideas for Heyward and Danks.....Viciedo/Anderson, etc., won't work. And buying Miller at his highest value, not usually the best idea for the bullpen. In fact, it seems the Orioles panicked and overpaid when they had some legit options there already, so all they ended up doing was giving a divisional rival a guy who might end up starting against them for 6+ years. And why would we want a player in Heyward who also strikes out a ton and we're going to mightily struggle to control after 2015, anyway...we're not quite in the same situation as the Red Sox, where we can trade a basket of assets for an immediate payoff. We need those players who will help us the most 2016-18. 3) This board isn't going to be very enjoyable in the off-season if they bring Adam Dunn back, no matter what the price. I disagree. I think it'd be fantastic. As a Dunn fan I've come to enjoy the Dunn hate in a Sharknado, "this is awful but I can't stop watching", kinda way.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Go Beckham! No really, go. .318/.355/.482 vs LHP QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) Would have rather that day off come tomorrow instead of against a LHP, especially given how awful ADA has been against LHP this year. Ya, that is rather odd. I mean they did just have a day off on monday, and he got a day off 9 days ago.... -

Ben Brewster got called up to WS. I put him on my top 30 list. Really think he'll be in the pen sometime next year. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) Jones has actually been better vs lefties in his career than righties. Not sure Robin would have ever used him that way, but it could have helped. This. Lefties are hitting just .203 with a .629 OPS against Jones in his career. He's essentially a RHLOOGY.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Also I want to point out that I like Danks a lot as a person and a player, this is just a baseball/contracts/Rodon type of thing. Danks is a solid dude and I wish him the best wherever he goes. I'd be real surprised if Rodon is up before the trade deadline next season. I'd keep Danks till then. He becomes less expensive, and thus more valuable. Come the trade deadline next year he'll be due what, like 18M? Sox would be in better position to throw in money to make that contract look a lot better.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) There's the Sox deadline additions. Yup, and they didn't have to give up a damn thing. Putnam should be returning soon as well. Really think Avi is gonna ball out and be a huge addition to the lineup. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) The Sox are 7 games behind the Tigers and 6.5 behind the Blue Jays. They also have more teams to jump in the Wild Card, so that 6.5 game deficit may as well be 10 games. No, I don't think for a second that they'd be in the Wild Card hunt. Just because there have been some failures doesn't mean that the bullpen wouldn't have failed even if it was "better." It may have just failed in other games. Bullpens are fickle and when you play close games like that, you are going to lose some of them. Frankly, I think a better bullpen gets 2 more wins. Better production out of LF, RF, and 2B would be much more likely to contribute to the team being contenders in either race. I'm not saying if they add some bullpen guys right now they would compete. I'm saying if they had a better pen all year they more than likely wouldn't be 6.5 back from the WC. I think you could realistically say they could be 3.5 back if not closer, which to me is contending for the WC.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) They are a hell of a lot more than that. You don't think with a better pen the Sox compete for the WC? He didn't say contending for a title, or even the central, just the WC.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) Ironically, ^^ she is throwing out the first pitch....Rowand posted this yesterday. Anywho, I wanna see a sweep. Cleveland has been playing awful baseball and KC, who just lost Hosmer, get the A's this series... I know it doesn't mean much, but I really wanna see the Sox finish 2nd in the Central. -
QUOTE (glangon @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) Reallistically we are steadily building. We have some needs but are closer than we were last year. Next year will look something like this:- Catchers Josh Phegley Tyler Flowers (unless Hahn can pull a move for a catcher Infield Jose Abreu 1B Micah Johnson 2B Alexei Ramirez SS Conor Gillaspie 3B Marcus Semien UTL Leury Garcia UTL Andy Wilkins 1B / DH Outfield Tank LF Adam Eaton CF Avi Garcia RF Jordan Danks OF Rotation Chris Sale Hector Noesi Jose Quintana John Danks Erik Johnson Bullpen Zach Putnam Matt Lindstrom Dan Webb Erik Surkamp Carlos Rodon (L) Scott Carroll (long) Jake Petricka (Closer) That is the reality of next year. If we pick up some pieces, great. Unless a big deal happens, Alexei and Danks will be staying. Experience will be given to the prospects and Sanchez will probably the odd man out. You may see a lefty come in to replace Surkamp and possibly a righty come into the pen for Putnam, but I'd be surprised. If Alexei is traded, Sanchez will be brought up and we'll probably see a starter come in. Davidson will get a few months in AAA to develop along with Revelo and possibly Tim Anderson. Other than that, Welcome to your 2015 White Sox - The Future is now. Once the experience is given to the guys in 2015, this bunch will be evaluated and Hahn will go for it in 2016. With only 46M committed next year you don't think the Sox add a single player???! I'd be a little shocked if the payroll isn't up to AT LEAST 80M.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 01:46 AM) It's amazing how we have to concede next season to Detroit as it continues to win title after title. The Sox had a team everybody thought would dominate for years after 2005 and hasn't done s*** since. Sad. Detroit is so good we're having to concede next season as well. It's baseball, no one is conceding anything and if they are they're being foolish. I'm not disappointed in the slightest bit. Making trades to make trades is foolish. Guys everyone are talking about trading probably don't net you a damn thing that helps. I want this team to finish as well as possible, no wither away into the cellar. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) Whilst we're waiting for Judge to come up, I go with a platoon in left of De Aza and Michael Taylor. De Aza, with bad BABIP luck, is hitting righties pretty well, and Taylor is hitting lefties to the tune of .326/.400/.589 at AAA. I thought about the Taylor/ADA platoon as well....You're looking at his splits wrong. He's "surprisingly" smashing RHP and been bad against LHP. Dude has been destroying RHP in Charlotte .351/.435/.571 I assume the split you threw up there is his line with both teams. Where'd ya get that?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Looks like Rose is going to make it on the USA FIBA World Cup team. scs is impressed. Hard not to be unless you think it's merely based on the fact that Thibs is on the coaching staff. If they're really trying to win that'd mean he's outplayed 1 or 2 of Wall/Lillard/Irving. Really excited to watch the showcase game tomorrow. Teams aren't going to go 100% but never the less it's gonna be fun to watch Pooh match up against Irving/Lillard. -
Hopefully Detroit having to pay either Price/Max big $$ means they can't afford VMart....Sox go balls out because 1. They're close 2. They haz the moneyz 3. Yogi Pito doesn't like losing! 1. Eaton 2. Semien 3. Abreu 4. Vmart DH 5. Avi 6. Gillaspie 7. Lexi 8. De Aza 9. Tyler Flower/Trade (Really think Kendall reups in Pitt leaving the Sox nada in FA) Sierra-Saladino-Nieto/Flowers-? 1. Sale 2. Q 3. Masterson 4. Danks 5. Noesi Closer- Casey Janssen Mike Dunn (Trade w/ Marlins for Carlos Sanchez and some lower level guys) Zach Putnam Jake Petrika Daniel Webb Rienzo Surkamp

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 06:11 PM) With the trade deadline behind us, I'm interested to see what you all think our 2015 team will look like. My prediction: 1. Eaton 2. Ramirez 3. Gillaspie 4. Abreu 5. Viciedo 6. Davidson (DH/3B) 7. Micah Johnson 8. Flowers 9. JorDanks/minor league OF With a bench of Nieto, Leury, Sierra, and Carlos Sanchez. Pitching- 1. Sale 2. James Shields 3. Quintana 4. Erik Johnson/FA/Noesi 5. Danks Putnam Petricka Joe Thatcher Surkamp Luke Gregerson Webb Guerra Casey Janssen Avi Garcia says "Hi"

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) Fair enough, but it's not like the Sox are good enough to consider wins over anyone a given. That too is fair enough. Just saying it's possible.
