Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 06:26 PM) How does Putnam count? Good call. Forgot where he came from. I was around, but was a young 19yo pup in 07, does anyone remember what it was like in the 07 season?? Just looking at that bullpen, god god almighty.....Were people calling for Ozzies head back then? -

Might just be Putnam coming back....15 day DL stints don't usually garner a rehab stint correct? EDIT- Tomorrow would be his 11th day on the DL so he's no eligible yet. -
Danish starts are so much fun to follow. Eliminate his 1.1 inning 6 ER game and he has a 2.01 ERA as a 19 year old in A+. Really hope his arm holds up and we can see him in a rotation with Sale/Q/Rodon in 2016.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:44 PM) This bullpen is the result of a ridiculously weak farm. And there's nothing to bring in. Well, FWIW, if Jones didn't get hurt we'd have Jones, Petricka, and Putnam as 3 quality guys to come from the farm. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Um I didnt say I expected it. I said its not surprising. I love assumptions. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) I think they were counting on Belly to not relive his past....same with Boggs. But that went down pretty much as expected. It was also only a matter of time for Scott Downs. I just don't see how that statement could be true however you mean it. -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) This man has got to go. He's absolutely destroyed the confidence of every member of our bullpen. LMAO. Good one. I knew the haters would come up with somethin. -

It was also only a matter of time for Scott Downs. I just don't see how you could expect it. Belly has had 1 bad year in 4 years total. Downs had been damn good for years now. Saying you expected those 2 to be DFA bad is a straight up lie. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) If Hahn deserves one thing its a standing ovation for this pen. Boy did he royally screw it up this year. Meh, he doesn't have a crystal ball. Can't foresee Jones/Lindstrom getting hurt and Belly/Downs not playing like they have in the past. And on a rebuilding team, depth in the bullpen isn't really put on the front burner. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Also if Dunn was hitting .245 or .257 I would have no issues with him except for his K rate If not for the ABs he randomly got against LHP he'd be up there -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) I can't believe people are trying to back up Dunn. And I can't believe people want him back next year. Batting 6th or 7th he'd be fine. Look at the A's, who have the best offense in baseball.. Brandon Moss0 -.257/.336/.497 Josh Donaldson- .246/.331/.463 You can have a really good offense with guys like that in your lineup... -

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Batting average is a pretty meaningless stat without any other context. Especially in the context of an .845 OPS against righties. Ya, and he's batting behind a pretty damn good run producer so RBI opportunities are somewhat limited. He has a .897 OPS w/RISP, so he's been fairly good in that regard. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:07 PM) The sad thing is there is absolutely no help coming from the minors, with regards to the bullpen, unless it's Rodon. Lack of pitching depth throughout the system has killed the Sox this year. I love Ben Brewster, who was just named our prospect of the month. He's already pitched at 3 levels since being drafted. Wouldn't be shocked to see him pitch at 1 or 2 more this year and make the club next year. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Waiting for the next "OMG Robin blew the game he should have put someone else in with the lead because everybody knows Guerra was the WORSTEST CHOICE EVAR" Post Right. Wonder what VAfan has to say after this one. -

It's gotten to the point where the pen is comical. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Wow, I forgot about Cueto, I would love to add him. And he'll only be 29 next year... I'd give him 5 years/75 million He's got an option that I'm sure they pick up, but I'm just throwing him out there hypothetically.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) As bad as this game has been, atleast were just down by one Andddd it's tied. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) just a question, do you think that the sox is ready to make that kind of move, maybe in the offseason with a high free agent salary player. I would like your opinion. imho my thoughts will be yes. I think they should to be honest. Maybe not Scherzer/Lester/Cueto, but Shields/Masterson? Yes. I'm really hoping the payroll is back up around 80-90M next year. That would mean they spent about 30-40M which should mean we have a quality RH starter, a quality bat or 2, and some quality arms in the pen.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) The Sox aren't in a position to pay $5+ annually to a reliever. That is a last piece move, not a .500 team move. Meh, the team is .500 because of the pen for the most part. I'd to waste another year of Sale/Abreu by having another pen that is not very good. Sox payroll is gonna be under 50M next year before arbitration, with not many arb eligible players to pick back up. 5-7M barely scratches the surface of what I believe will be back up to ~90M payroll.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Who are we going to trade for him that won't cost key players from the major league roster (Alexei Ramirez to take Cozart's place?) or half our minor league prospects? Not a good match for their asking price (like Hamels with the Phillies, we can't afford to take on that type of contract and give up 3-5 top prospects). First and foremost the Sox CAN take on any contract. A deal however would be hard to come by. Just speculating on a guy who the Sox have been linked to for awhile now.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Yeah but belly is still bad. And I'm a big Ventura backer Meh, there's not a guy I really trust more or less in that situation. Maybe Guerra but he's certainly not a lock to contain a 1 run lead either. Belly has been hit or miss on a day to day bases. There's times where he looks fantastic, it just wasn't yesterday.
