  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-m...p&type=lgns Jorge Sosa, that is
  2. QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) Dempster worked his ass off to prepare to become a starter again. From the New York Times: "Dempster spent his off-season outside Denver training with virtual masochism. At 7,200 feet altitude, he would run up mountains with a resistant harness. He outfitted his garage with new equipment. And he would wake up at 7 a.m. to run one, two and then three steps at a time up the rows of the nearby Red Rocks Amphitheater." Don't forget that this is his walk year. He's going to get paid big-time by someone, and any playoff success is only going to boost the numbers he will get. The dumbest contract of the offseason will be the one that's given to Dempster.
  3. I definately see Poreda getting called up this year, whether it's starting or in the pen.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) The Angels are so over-hyped. If we get to the ALDS or ALCS and have to go up against them, if we can just score 4-6 runs a game with our pitching, we should be able to win the series's. Unfortunately it will be hard to score 4-6 runs per game.
  5. Would be a good place to have Konerko hit, and stick BA out in center.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Dotel screws the pooch tonight. Seems he either implodes big time or dominates. No gray area. perfect description
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) I dont mean like Vlad-type free swinger. But CQ probably swings first pitch more often than most players in the league But his strike zone discipline is great, unlike AJ and Alexi. CQ only swings if it's right there, where guys like AJ and Alexi swing at garbage pitches and never draw walks.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) Theres nothing wrong with being a free swinger. Alexei and CQ have a done a good job being that way all year. Its just like, know your situation. The pitcher has been wild all day, its a close game, a runner on first and no outs who just walked, 1-0 count, make him throw a little bit. Everyone. The'yre not facing a Maddux/Radke/Wells who you know wont be walking you Please don't call Quentin a free swinger.
  9. Slow gamethread tonight, even for a Friday. Although I wouldn't be in here if I wasn't working.
  10. One other thing, the 30 inning rule, it goes by the pitchers previous career high in innings, not the previous season. Danks' career high was 156 innings in 2006, so in a perfect world we can push him to around 186 innings, but that includes the playoffs (although I'm not sure if I like the idea of including playoffs, since pitchers are usually have more rest).
  11. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ....YAE/index.html This article details the 30 inning rule. Pretty much every pitcher he lists has either gotten hurt or seen his ERA go up significantly.
  12. When's the last time the Cubs faced Volquez? It seems like they miss him every time.
  13. Home replica Dye jersey with one of my Sox hats, either the normal one, the one with the World Series logo, or the one with the World Series champs logo.
  14. Nice to see our pal Yost having CC throw 130 pitches in a blowout.
  15. So when will tomorrow's starter be officially announced?
  16. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) Don't forget about Yaz, cuz Hawk can't Alvin Dark would be our manager.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) Very nice plays by Uribe this inning....Ramirez has to learn how to dive. I really think the idea of putting him at SS is a disaster waiting to happen. I'm glad somebody else agrees with me on this. He range has been below average at second this season.
  18. Seattle playing Balentien in center when they have Suzuki and Reed is comical. And for the OC haters, don't worry you only have to put up with him for another two months or so.
  19. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) If he's facing Seattle, I'd be fine with him pitching, I see the Mariners all the time(i live in seattle), and about half of their players are from AAA anyway, they swing at s***ty pitches, the only guys that'd worry me are Ichiro and Ibanez, Beltre only hit's when you leave something over the middle of the plate, so I wouldn't be too afraid of him. A team like Seattle would probably actually be the best case scenario for him to make his debut, you can talk about his confidence being hurt if he sucks it up, imagine how high it would get if he dominated a major league team. Not to mention that Ibanez and Suzuki are lefties, which works well for Aaron.
  20. One other thing I like about Soxtalk is that fans from other teams like BenchwarmerJim are welcome, and it's great to hear their opinions. On WSI, the second they find out you aren't a Sox fan they call you a troll or ban you, even if you aren't causing problems.
  21. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) If he doesn't, I can't imagine he won't be there in late May, early June. I keep talking about the route Tulo took to the big leagues, and I still think it could hold true. The Sox started Fields in AA for his first full pro season, so it wouldn't suprise me if they did the same with Beckham.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 02:32 AM) If you were told flat out the Sox cannot make the WS what teams would you prefer getting in the WS? I'd pick the Dodgers in the NL (for Torre getting even with Yankees) and Rays in AL. I might take the Twins except for the dome. I hate that f***ing dome. Anyone but the Cubs
