  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) That's why I just keep my mouth shut and just nod and smile when talking to exuberant Cub fans. I really hate bringing up the point that they've played 17 out of the last 23 against bottom feeders Pittsburg, Colorado and San Diego. God they have a cake schedule....... They are getting the job done, though. I am not sure how real they are, but they seem to take care of business when necessary. With that said, I hope they start slumping soon.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) Of course, no one mentions that the Tigers are 16-12 against other AL teams not in the AL Central. His Pirates argument really should not even be acknowledged. How anyone could think that Pittsburgh team would dominate ANY other team escapes me.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Reason #100005 why I hate the Cubs and their fans. An actual smart baseball friend of mine at work was trying to say how the AL Central is the worst division in baseball. He's like "the Pirates would destroy the Tigers right now". There's already a few teams in the NL who's season is over....Padres, Rockies, Nationals, and Giants. While the ALC is not proving to be nearly as good as preseason predictions, it is tough to miss how bad the NLW is right now.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 30, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) As a wise man once said: "That's why I don't read the newspaper, because it's garbage". Was that Ozzie?
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 30, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Today's game won't go down in some sort of lore. They beat one of the three worst teams in baseball on a warm May day where the wind was howling out. This home season for them as a whole might go down in lore for them at this rate though, they don't even need to win on the road right now (and they haven't since their opening series). The home/road splits for their hitters are just astounding. I agree with your logic, but we are talking about Cubs fans here. They like to make legends out of everything, and don't think the Tribune and their cute stories won't help their cause.
  6. Good morning, good afternoon...aw forget it.
  7. QUOTE (JFields27 @ May 30, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Bob Brenley said like back in the 2nd if Lilly could just pitch some solid ball until the 6th(obviously didnt) but that they could come back cause they are so good in the 7th inning its amazing what they did this inning, my mom is a cubs fan it makes for a lot of arguments I really doubt Josh Fields' mom cheers for the cubs.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) Cubs might be the greatest 7th inning team in the history of baseball. What sucks is this is going to be one of those games we will hear about for the next 30 years. Like that stupid "Sandberg" game where he hit 2 home runs off of Sutter or the "Homer in the Gloamin" that dumbass Murphy talks about as if he was even a gleam in his dad's bloodshot eye at the time.
  9. QUOTE (Shamrock4Life @ May 30, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) I will also be there Saturday (the whole weekend in fact). You gonna set up a live feed for us?
  10. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 30, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Jesus, when are we playing KC? Unless I'm forgetting, I don't think we've even played them yet this year O_O Careful what you wish for. They still have a nice stable of pitchers that the Sox have minimal experience against. I am not saying the Sox won't beat them, but nothing is automatic in this league, especially with this inconsistent offense.
  11. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) He doesn't count, kind of like if a position player came in to pitch. I think he allowed a Buerhle runner to score and the others should have been unearned.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ May 28, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) I'm determined to start a game thread that turns into a W! Westbrook's first start off DL. Nice work.
  13. QUOTE (mooja @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) tough hop, definitely playable, but not an easy play.. Maybe OCab can call the press box to lobby on Crede's behalf.
  14. QUOTE (kane0730 @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Why isn't BA in center? Ozzie wanted to give him the rest after all that playing time recently. Dewayne Wise can't leave this team soon enough, although he has looked better than JT and PK.
  15. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Well said. I can't imagine how bad Cabrera would be at bunting if he weren't such a great handler of the bat. Sac bunts do not help you in the FA market or arbitration hearings I guess.
  16. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) ugh....well i guess it wasn't the worst bunt ever. but it was close. and a good play by betancourt. but ugh...................... What happened?
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) so does Oz let him swing or bunt? I do not knwo what OG lets him do, but getaway day on the road has me going for the bigger inning.
  18. Win or lose today, aside from the starting rotation, this Cleveland team is not playing impressive baseball. Maybe they are just slumping but I fear the Twins more at this point in the season.
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 28, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) heh, anyone catch that right before the comm. break? Floyd seems like kind of a squirrely kinda guy Watching gamecast. What did Floyd do?
  20. QUOTE (MEANS @ May 28, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) 68 Gamecast has him at 74 as of the 2 out double.
  21. QUOTE (kane0730 @ May 28, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Anybody got a pitch count on Gavin? 70
  22. I get the overall impression that OCab is having trouble adjusting to life in Chicago. It was like getting fired from a place you absolutely loved to work and being forced to move out of state to a company with a weaker benefit package. He loved his boss, his team, the weather, his role, etc. Now, all of a sudden he is rejected via a trade. His new manager is not nearly as calm and laid back as the former, the weather is lousy for the first two months of the season, and he is expected to be a leader among a team full of guys he does not know. Meanwhile, he is in his walk year. I think he is pouting and thinking about the places he would rather be right now, particularly, LA. I hope the warm summer weather and tank tops will help adjust his attitude and keep him hitting like he has been recently. This pouting just does not cut it with me, no matter how much he liked it elsewhere.
  23. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ May 23, 2008 -> 05:49 AM) Lost 4 pounds this week. Was kind of hoping for me. Had a really good week. Looks like I have 9 pounds to lose in 8 days to get to my goal of 299 by June 1. I'm going to bust my arse to get as close as I can, but I won't get down if I miss it. It was a lofty goal and to come this close has me very confident I can keep going. Nice work. Keep up the positive attitude.
  24. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ May 23, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) I just sent this to Brooks at [email protected] and copied my rep: Brooks' response: Thanks for your note. Quentin certainly has played his way into the All-Star game (at least thru Memorial Day). Unfortunately, he was not on the ballot. In my opinion, any "write in" campaign we do won't produce the outcome we want. There is just no way we could ever generate enough votes. So, there are two ways he could get in. Either placed on the team by the Manager or the 25th man public vote. If Carlos gets in to the 25th man vote, you know from past experience that we are very aggressive in our get out the vote campaigns. We all know he is currently deserving. Let's hope that he keeps up his level of play and ends up in the ASG. All the best, Brooks
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) Some should email Brooks Boyer. I just sent this to Brooks at [email protected] and copied my rep: Dear Brooks- I am a season ticket holder and a White Sox fan for over 25 years. It has been some time since I saw as exciting a young talent in a White Sox uniform as Carlos Quentin. His performance has been integral to the team's success thus far in 2008. Seeing as he is among the league leaders in several key offensive categories, it is a shame that he is not on the All Star ballot. I frequent a chat site, Soxtalk.com, where my sentiment is overwhelmingly echoed. We have started an earnest write-in campaign to put Carlos on the ballot. However, even if we all vote the maximum 25 times on line it will be difficult to overcome the odds against him making it. With that said, I ask that you start a massive get-out-the-vote campaign at the ballpark (and outside via radio and TV broadcasts) encouraging fans to not only vote for their favorite Sox players, but to specifically make sure to fill in Carlos Quentin's name, substituting him for one of the three outfield slots. I think a "Write Carlos" campaign encouraged by Sox players and personnel is merited with the way Carlos has performed and handled himself. If MLB allows it, the Sox could even go so far as to set up tables in the concourse with ballots that either already have Carlos Quentin printed in the space for write-in candidates or at least have Carlos Quentin rubber stamps that fans can use to save time voting as many times as possible. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist in the process. Thank you for your time.
