QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Well now I know it is BS. Jessie Rogers sourcesare about as good as mine. I miss Steff on days like today. Whatever happened to her? She seemed to drop off the planet for some reason.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) throw in some of my feces and you've got a deal. I am trolling Soxtalk today just to read more about your poo fantasies. I know it is highly sophomoric humor but you got me laughing at something. Thanks.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) If that's the case, why are we giving them arguably our best position player prospect and arguably our best pitching prospect? Good + inexpensive + signed to more than this year = higher trade value combo of bad, expensive and or 1/2 season rental = lower trade value

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) Creme pie tastes better, but I would prefer chocolate or banana. It's a team thing as you say There is a good chance the whipped cream pies were made but Hall (and possibly Uribe) ate them and replaced with shaving cream.

I heard he became a paraplegic from a break dancing accident. No wait that was Alfonso Ribeiro from Silver Spoons. He must have recovered enough to become Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air But please do not confuse him with Urkel

Sox Option Russell, Call Up Clayton Richard
Pants Rowland replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...mp;mode=gameday There are some highlights in Gameday. Mostly of Texas clobbering him. There's also this AAA start Hawk's calls on Ramirez play and Q's 2nd dinger were priceless. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) Last time somebody bashed me like this after a game, we went 1-3 from there up to now. Interesting stat there. So are you saying that Soxtalk posters risk White Sox losses when they criticize your posts? That is a relief. I used to think the Sox success depended on my attendance at the games, which hat I wore and to which side of my head the bill was positioned. Glad to know I am off the hook.

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
Pants Rowland replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) I believe the Sox are clinched to have spent the most days in first place in the AL Central for this season, which is 92 so far. Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit 'em. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) Will be listening while driving south on I-57. Go get em, Richard! I will be there. Hope Richard doesn't spoil a beautiful day.

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 06:42 AM) At least your not named Mike and live in Tinley Park like I do. I have had 4 or 5 people already ask if that was me or not BTW, that is NOT me Me thinks the lady doth protest too much. ;-)

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 09:51 AM) Ha! Hope they turned that dad in. Call DCFS!! I have to confess, while I do not attend Cubs games, I almost always let my kids (they are 5 and 3, BTW) take sips of my beer at home. Granted, I really do not drink at all other than an occassional beer or glass of wine with dinner. Whatever, I think we get too worried about alcohol and make it out to be a bigger deal than it is. By the time our kids start having access to booze, they overindulge and are not prepared for it's potential dangers. Still funny that was caught on film, though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) I agree Pants, but I wonder if he'd have opened the ninth with the dreaded pitch count over 110. I would have to say probably not but Buerhle is usually not one to shy away from a CG.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) In a mid summer night game, Mark B should have pitched a shutout last night. If Paulie catches Ramirez's throw, he might have done so. Just saying. ;-)

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Ok, but he's NOT Juan Uribe. Uribe hits in the low 200s and has a mid 200s OBP, which is a significantly worse clip. That's a much worse player in my opinion. Paul's a very streaky player on the very low end of what we can expect production wise from him over a half of a season. Also, consider that he's a career .291 hitter in July, .297 in August and .305 in September. Granted, he's never dealt with injuries like this before, but typically as the weather heats up so does Paul. Like I said, I'd give him until July 25th to straighten it out and then bench him then. Per weather.com, This weekend's highs/lows forecast for Arlington, TX are... Fri - 98/78 Sat - 102/76 Sun - 95/75 Hope that is hot enough to jump start his slow, aging, injured body.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Thank you. Joe has won how many Gold Gloves? Crede is a great player, but I would not put him ahead of Robin as far as all-time 3B. I had the pleasure of seeing Ventura hit many a grand slam, clutch hits and make unbelievable plays at the hot corner and read stories of what a great teammate he was. I am here for you, Robin. I still remember his 2 slams in one game v. TX as well as a memorable walkoff HR that hit the concrete facade down the RF line right in front of me (before they moved the fences in). Great memories. Ventura had a great quote back when the Sox still trained in Sarasota. A reporter asked him why Bo Jackson was getting so many standing ovations during spring training games. Robin deadpanned, "Because 85% of Sarasota's population has also had hip replacement surgery."

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:33 AM) Ed Walsh? He pitched for 4 seasons and had an above 5 ERA. Lyons or McDowell? Not bad, either. Except, they had 3.67 and 3.85 ERAs respectively, while none of the 5 I mentioned had anything under 3.24. Horlen? Maybe. With a 3.11 lifetime ERA, I couldn't have gone wrong with him. Law? Maybe, too. Although, he only played for 7 years and his BA wasn't even abobe .275. I do admitt, his SB #'s are impressive. Sosa? I admitt, I totally forgot him. Put him there instead of Dye. Baines? Again, some how I forgot him. Stick him in the DH role in which I forgot as well. Schalk? Come on now. His BA was a measley .252 for his career. McDowell knew how to win games. People sometime dismiss the importance of the statistic for wins and I tend to agree. However, there are some guys that have an uncanny ability to win no matter what the offense gives them and not worry about the rest. McDowell was that guy. He would win 1-0 and 8-7 just as easily and you knew he would not break in either setting. He also pitched 9 innings, possibly more often than Buerhle. Sosa is not a White Sox star. He was a raw talent who did not "realize" his potential until well after he left the Sox. He also never learned how to hit the cutoff man. While Baines is known to many as a DH, he was a true RF whose knees broke him down into a DH. Prior to that, however, he could play well with a good arm. If anything, he should be the RF, not Sammy or JD. I always thought Dick Allen was a 1B with the Sox. Am I mistaken? To me he should be at 1st with Frank at DH, since that is really what he played most of his career. He really was never a good first baseman. I did not see mention of Luke Appling at SS, either. I know Aparicio was a great player, but Appling's BA was excellent and I believe he is in the HOF. I do not know a lot about Schalk, but I did see Fisk play. Maybe I did not appreciate him enough in my youth, but I always thought he was overrated. I might actually prefer AJ over Fisk, although Fisk might be better at throwing out runners.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:27 AM) I forgot Robin. He didn't blossom til he went to NY, though. You can't be serious, can you? If anything, he was at his best before he almost tore his foot off. Overall, however, he was so smooth at 3rd base and had a nice easy swing with good power for a guy that wasn't all that built. He has decent years with the Mets, but I would not call them any better than his time with the Sox. Also, baseball acumen changes dramatically as you get older and get a feel for the ebb and flow (and monotonous grind) of the game. If you were under 10 for most of Ventura's White Sox career, I question how you can compare him to Crede. I know I can not opine on Melton, Zisk, LeFlor or Allen, no matter if they played in my lifetime. I was just too young to appreciate the overall players they were.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Name the manager: The Lip - LEO DUROCHER The Hat - HARRY WALKER Called for a fake intentional walk on a 3-2 count in the World Series - DICK WILLIAMS Traded for Manny Sanguillen - CHUCK TANNER Last manager traded - ???????????? Edit: This is 5 different managers. Didn't Rollie Fingers do the fake IBB v. Johnny Bench in the 1972 series?

So it's official, we want the Twins and Tigers to both lose all four and then spontaneously combust.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Exactly. I believe it was the manager of the California Angels at the time (Doug Radar?) who mentioned the Sox were "winning ugly" for all the different ways they found to pull games out (they floundered until taking over first lace around the ASB and then went on a ridiculous tear to win the division by 20 games or so). It wasn't about ugly wins, it was how many ways they did it - HR, balks, stolen bases, defense, sac flies, suicide squeezes, pitching, you name it. It was a lot of fun to watch that team. Too bad Baltimore had their number all season and kept it up in the playoffs. Plus the Dibber forgot how to run the bases. I was a little off... The 1983 Chicago White Sox won their division, but Texas Ranger manager Doug Rader didn’t think they were all that good. “They’re not playing that well. They’re winning ugly,” Rangers manager Doug Rader said, sometime in August 1983. The remark quickly became a slogan for the 1983 Chicago White Sox. and... The “Winnin’ Ugly” remark was uttered by Rader before the four game series in Texas. That series started on August 19. The Sox took 3 of 4 and left Dallas with an eight game lead over the Rangers. and... 30 August 1983, Chicago Daily Herald, section 4, pg. 1, col. 1: Less than two weeks ago, it was Rangers manager Doug Rader who started the whole tempest by saying the first-place White Sox were “winning ugly.” Before long, T-shirts were cropping up in Chicago with “Winning ugly is no miracle on 35th Street” emblazoned on them. The idea became a rallying point for local fans and a bit of a sore point in Texas. It was a little bit like the comment Guillen made about the Twins being piranas, although he was complimenting them. 1983 is still one of my favorite seasons along with 2005 and the last year at old comiskey when they came up short versus the A's.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) There's a big difference between an ugly win and Winning Ugly. Even though we didn't make the Promised Land, '83 was a special season. So forgive the old farts their nostalgia. Exactly. I believe it was the manager of the California Angels at the time (Doug Radar?) who mentioned the Sox were "winning ugly" for all the different ways they found to pull games out (they floundered until taking over first lace around the ASB and then went on a ridiculous tear to win the division by 20 games or so). QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) Hawk said OC had nothing to apologize for because he got himself in position to score on a sac fly with one out. Feisty said he understood why JD would be annoyed by OC jumping around out by second base. Hawk said we needed the run and we got it. advantage hawk Plus, they had been talking about JD being distracted on the SB during the top of the inning. After OC scored, it was obvious something other than celebrating was going on in the dugout and Hawk and DJ made no mention of OC being annoyed. Then, after a pitching change in the middle of the bottom half of the inning, they replay what was going on in the dugout and DJ speculates it had something to do with JD striking out and being distracted by the stolen base. Hawk was right about OC doing a good job to take the base, but he got b****y with DJ for no reason acting like he did not properly explain what happened. Hawk is a grumpy old bat.
