QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) I thought the young guys, especially ones who were in the minors last year, loved Razor. I have so much respect for Shines sticking up for Sean Tracey last year. This is a crazy thread. Some people have heard and seen such great things of Shines and I've heard and I know people here have heard some awful things about Shines. I don't like him, for what it's worth, but he confuses me.

Ric Flair can get away with ANYTHING in North Carolina. And I wouldn't be surprised that the cops would let him go, especially there.

Poplar's a great guy. I think he's overly generous in his assessments sometimes but he's very smart and clever and has good info.

Harang's strikeouts and CG are impressive but he wasn't "screwed" unequivocally like, say, Pedro Martinez was screwed by Barry Zito.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Greg, so if you are at a bar and some guy comes up to you and says "hey, nice ass. Wanna dance?' are you gonna go scream to the cops that yu were sexually harrassed? How about if it was an ugly woman? The stories, AS THEY HAVE BEEN PRINTED, do not say that that he verbally propositioned anyone for sex, nor offered payment for such. Asking someone if they want to f*** is not a crime. Asking them if they will f*** you for $100 is. Did he offer payment? It doesn't say that, but i would venture that if he did, it would be printed since that would be even worse for him. And it doesn't say he 'peeked' into the stall. He could have been standing by the sink and able to see into the stalls. Some of them have quite large gaps. Now before yu get your presidential panties in a bunch, I am NOT defending him. He is a sliimy kind of guy, the business card thing was just plain wrong, and he is an idiot. My original questions, which you misunderstood as a defense, was why was he arrested for foot tapping and a hand gesture? regardless of what they 'mean', there was no offer of payment, and I don't think it is a crime to ask for sex. If you keep asking after being told no, well, that's another story. Did somethign else happen that we don't know about? perhaps. but with what was written, it just doens't seem right that he could be arrested for just that. Because everybody knows what the hand gesture is. It's like coming out onto the streets and flashing gang signs. People know what that is. And it's hardly the same situation to peek into someone's stall while they take a s*** and hang at a club and then squat on your seat and rub your foot against theirs and reach into their stall -- an invasion of privacy, I might add, to go along with sexual harassment, harassment and being an asshole. Glad you're not defending him, though. Not at all. Except for the fact that you don't see crimes in what he did because you don't want to. And yes, if I want I could accuse someone of sexual harassment for a variety of things. Doesn't mean I'd win out. if someone does what he did, you're damn right he's going to get a visti from the police and a lot of questions asked and if I can, I'm going to get him into some trouble. What he did is wrong and illegal. Harassment, invasion of privacy, etc. etc. He deserves what he got. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) Like a new manager? Last year on CSN they showed Ozzie teaching the young kids how to bunt and he was getting everything down perfectly. I recently YouTubed for Ozzie and found a clip of him dropping a perfect bunt in the 1999 World Series for the Braves and he makes it to first base though the throw was a bit bad. It was still a perfect bunt and if he were faster and younger and healthier, he'd have for sure made it. It's kind of funny, then, when I saw him bunting perfect that one day. Erstad could teach people a thing or two about bunting, too. This team needs more than just "energy" and "spark." It needs new players. Not someone to come in and say, 'Hey, guys, let's go!" No no no no. That's not the answer. More "grinders" and "motivators" aren't it.

You know, it's kind of crazy, now that i think about it. Let me come into a bathroom with someone's child here, or someone's grandfather, or someone's father, or just you, peek into your stall and proposition you for sex, make you uncomfortable by signaling certain things for you...you don't think I would deserve to be detained? And then to pull that, "What do you think of my Senate ID?" bulls***. He clearly deserved to be detained and definitely deserved to be arrested. If someone pulled that on one of your kids there'd be no doubt, or on your father or on you. And if a Democrat had done this, you'd all be saying, "Well if a Republican had done this, there'd be an outcry but for the Democrat? You're defending him!!11111111111111" This is harassment and sexual harassment. It is indecent. It disturbs the peace. And he has s*** in all of our communities by bringing such filth into our world. And he's arrogant. "I have power. I've got the ID. What do you think of that?" Well, s***. -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) It was a nonsequitor. What level of detail it was at doesn't much matter when its incongruous to the thread. Seemed like he posted without reading the thread. I think thats why people reacted the way they did. As I read it, Tex is defending him, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't speak Texan. And as far as I see it, Alpha was, too. 'Why should he have been arrested.' Give me a break. Sexual harassment, violation of privacy, harassment and being a stupid, stupid man are all reasons. And Northside? You too fune! -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) Yeah, and I don't feel bad for them at all. I'm from the NW side and I've had zero incidents in my life where I was negatively affected by some Cubs vs Sox nonsense. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's due to a lack of passion, either. I just don't see the point of engaging in debate with meatheads. I've had a couple small ones, but not in a long time.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Once again you are trying to prove a point without bringing up an important piece of the puzzle , Bobby Cox. What organization did John Shurholtz help turn around like Cox did with Toronto and now the Braves. The Royals experience taught him how to do things the right way but you need managers that can blend that talent and realize they are not GM's. I also think St. Louis prior to the ownership change was the model organization. There were a-lot of things that went right for the Braves in the 90's but the fact of the matter is, the Braves and White Sox have he same amount of World Series wins over his tenue. The fact that they may miss the playoffs in a pathetic NL kind of tarnishes the organizational reloading theory a bit to me. Also the difference with the cub chatter and Brave chatter is that many people on this board are affected negatively on a daily basis as a result of the cub success and this year it is more irritating than usual because they and the Sox suck. Cox deserves plenty of credit. As to the rest? Schuerholz says that he doesn't think people who rip his organization for not winning the Series understand the game of baseball or the history of the Streak. And by the way, the Braves have been to more series in Schuerholz tenure than the White Sox in all their history. What does that mean? A variety of things. Most important of which is to ask, What, exactly, are you trying to say? when you say "Atlanta = Rings = Chicago." That's bulls*** and it's silly.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) I asked again a couple weeks ago... the answer remains the same. How much does his anger toward the organization have to do with it?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) JMO, but for those with a ring... the attitude is long gone and not coming back any time soon. Mmmmmmmmm, we've had this discussion.

Shields has been rough since the ASB but he's probably the surest bet of any non-Closer in baseball. Wonder what his issues are right now. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) Think they'd give up Hu + a reliever instead? (I'd rather take the kiddie than the elder at this point, just for payroll reasons) No, they probably wouldn't.

"The Benefit of the Doubt" is crazy. Clearly he was looking for sex. Clearly he was looking for gay sex, with another man. Clearly he is a hypocrite and a scumbag. Was what he did illegal? Seems like sexual harassment to me and harassment as well, looking through the crack. Was what he did humiliating? Absolutely. Was what he did worthy of expulsion from the United States Senate? I think so. Why would anyone bother to defend this guy? He's clearly not worthy of defense. But then again, the human willingness to defend someone for the indefensible never ceases to amaze me. -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) I rarely pay attention to the MLB draft for various reasons, but I do wonder if teams trade and package trade picks to move up in the draft much in the same way NFL and NBA teams do? No.
