OK so answer this please about winning this time of year

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) No. In a very ironic, iconic sort of way it would be. Of course, we've skipped top five talents because of signability concerns and "slot limits" before...(this year...) -

I've loved the thought of trading Konerko for a long, long time and have advocated it for quite awhile only to be blasted for it. Since last offseason and I think I rumbled about it before. At this point, I doubt you get Kotchman for him. Why would they give up Kotchman for him? Homeruns? Doubt it. I think people are underestimating Stoneman's refusal to trade young pieces, and since Kotchman has shown himself to be quite capable, I doubt they'll give him away for Konerko's contract and hip, especially since Konerko isn't obviously superior and almost definitely won't be going into the future. -

A small part of me wants the White Sox to skip a true number one talent because of Boras. Wouldn't that be hilarious? Sure, I'd be furious, but I'd love it very, very much, it would be so funny. So ironic. So true. We should have a top three pick, and there's little chance we blow it, but we are the Chicago White Sox. God forbid we wind up with Royce Ring one more time. -
When Ozzie says, "If you think I'm the problem, fire me," he means, "It's not my fault, but if you think so, let's see how you f***ing do without me!" Ozzie's the only one I truly care for on this staff. I really think people are crazy when they talk about how "bad" Ozzie is as he handles pitching staffs excellent, for one, and players generally like him. We all know how I feel about the scouts, coaches, GM and owner. We all know I put so much blame on this lousy team of lousy players and old players. It became clear a week or so ago that Ozzie was saying, "This team is awful. Blame me? s***, go ahead, but the truth is these players are awful.

Lets revisit a trade that didn't happen
Gregory Pratt replied to striker's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I really like Hirsh. Preferred Tav. to Pods. and Erstad. Taylor was a nice arm, IMO. But I understand holding out for Pence. Still believe he should've been traded then or at the ASB, though. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) Grilli and Durbin were much better prospects than Broadway and Phillips. Jones was a very effective major league pitcher at one time. I do agree those 3 guys aren't that great. So what does that say about a team looking to Broadway, Floyd, and Phillips who aren't anywhere close to as good as Grilli, Durbin, and Jones? Concur.
-
I didn't completely write them off. I wrote, Besides that, Jones has better stuff than either of them, Grilli's fastball ain't so bad as either of their "fast"balls and Durbin is their ceiling. Like I said, they're not good and anybody who says they have significant major league futures ahead of them are mistaken.

If any other pitcher than Johan Sanata wins Cy Young..
Gregory Pratt replied to bkmoney's topic in The Diamond Club
But nobody hits him well! Nobody, ever! So it's okay for us to be absolutely abysmal against Santana every single time we face him. -
They're not good. Anybody who tells you that they are is fooling themselves. Neither of them has any significant major league future for any team resembling a good one.
-
Hope you're drunk. Happy drunk, not unhappy drunk. Yer alright. Happy happy!

Broadway is not good. Phillips is not good.

I couldn't be happier for Pedro Martinez.

Reschedule.

Sisco still can't get his control over and I'll bet some of the guys he's getting away with getting counts on are guys who would be more than happy to take a walk in the ML. Ugh.

QUOTE(Jeremy @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 02:00 AM) We're 7th in HRs which is quite good. We're a pitiful 27th in SLG but that's largely tied to our horrific batting average. Well, no, we have a lot of guys who can hardly double.

"I haven't mailed it in. For Ozzie to suggest this team and I have mailed it in, I guess he must see something I don't. Everyone does. I haven't mailed it in. Did I ever tell you that I stole first base once? I just want to play everyday. Every day. People hate me for no reason. maybe Ozzie is drinking the Kool-Aid? I don't know why he's mad at the team. It's not my fault Manny Delcarmen throws a cut fastball and Greg Walker never told me about it. s***!"

Kind of wish Pierzynski had made a comment.

When Lee stepped up in the ninth, he was booed rigorously. When he homered, everyone went quiet. I turned to the crowd, pointed at them and yelled, "Boo that one! Let's see you boo that one!" and nobody said anything to me within earshot. Nobody yelled anything, far as I can tell. But after the game, this man in front of me turned, put his fist up for me to "pound it" and asked me to be a "good fan" and accept losing. I said, "I'm not a fan of either of these teams. I'm not going to congratulate you because your bad team beat an even worse team." "Come on, man up!" and I declined. He asked D to pound it and she said no. We left shortly after but stood in the aisle watching the Cub fans celebrate. When we were leaving: "Hey Chicago, what do you say?" "MILWAUKEE WILL WIN TODAY!" "Hey, why don't they have the confidence to play this song BEFORE the game?" Fun times.

QUOTE(Jeremy @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) This is already a pretty good power hitting team and putting someone who can hit for power in LF without losing much power elsewhere probably makes it an even better power hitting team. I think that lineup is much better because everyone looks as though they can flirt with a .330 OBP (maybe not Fields) which means we wouldn't be 29th in baseball in OBP anymore. I just don't think that we can trade for Tejada while keeping that lineup in tact without gutting the pitching staff. Even if we completely cleaned out the minors (DLS, Egbert, and Gio), I'm not sure it'd be enough to land Tejada. Even if we could acquire Tejada, I don't think we'll have the budget to keep everyone else, add his large salary, and sign ARow for $12+ million a year on top of that. Where are we in terms of homeruns this year? Where do we rank?
