  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) I'd like to point out that that's not true at all. The White Sox have blown saves for every great AL closer. We're like DX when it didn't suck, and he's like the corporate ministry. Yeah, I can't think of any closer we haven't gotten to yet in the AL, and I certainly can't think of any GOOD closer. But, hey man, re: bold: Ha!
  2. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) How do you know that Howard isn't on anything? I'm not saying that he is, but you can't really prove anything either way. Also, I hate Bonds, and I'm 99% certain that he used steroids, but the record is still 73. I don't know that Howard isn't on anything, but I doubt it. The record is still 73, that's true. But, at this point, I'm sure you weren't referencing me, since I never said otherwise. You're right, though -- it is 73.
  3. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) LoL @ the canada flag smiley. What is that for? Barry Bonds used to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Pittsburgh was the setting for Queer as Folk, except for certain club scenes that were filmed in Toronto instead because Pittsburgh's gay scene is apparently unsexy enough to be featured in Queer As Folk, and all of this ties into Barry Bonds being some type of homosexual who hangs out at gay bars in Toronto that were incidentally featured in Queer as Folk as if they were really in Pittsburgh? (Really, I'd imagine he was being facetious, because I often post smilies of other countries when in satire.)
  4. Good for her. If you break into someone's home, you're asking for consequence. If that means you have to be killed by someone who won't let you kill them, sorry.
  5. Oh, I hate the "Insanity" plea. It's a cheap way to get out of jail or get out of jail sooner. Let me get this straight: some lawyer (who should know better) brutally stabbed a man to death -- a man who might be a pervert and a monster, too -- to death over an allegation he didn't know was true or not. I can't say I sympathize with him, really. He ought to go to jail for a long time. What about Rita Edington who had to discover her dead, bloody son? This isn't a mob country. You don't have the right to invade someone's home and stab them to death. Now, if the girl was raped, then all the best to her, and I'm sorry that it happened, but this man should be in jail for a long time, too. This foul murderous man. But I'll bet he gets off lite because he was temporarily unhinged! Convenient.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) LOL @ AJ flipping the bat towards Tribe dugout again. I love him. Ha! Yes indeed. I wouldn't be opposed to him closing a game or two if Bobby's hip is that damaged.
  7. Hawk just mentioned that hopefully AJ's walkoff will be remembered as a defining moment of 2006. I think it very well might be -- provided we win the WC or Divisision and do something worth a damn in the playoffs. If we do, then I think that, the series with Houston, several of the late-inning Closer Killings -- these will all be remembered as defining moments. If we don't do anything, fail to make the playoffs, I think Houston's last game here where we made up the deficit in two innings but lost in extras would be a prime candidate as a defining moment, like the Cleveland game with the huge rally, too. Great baseball for a couple of innings, with strong performances and a ton of guts, but ultimately, failure. I think this just become my favorite moment of the year, for what it's worth.
  8. Beautiful way to pick up your teammate, AJ. Let's go go go go White Sox.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) Torre was resting Rivera a few months ago, when the Yanks were well behind the Red Sox. I take my statement back, then. I will say, though, that I don't necessarily blame Ozzie.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Nope, Torre doesn't pitch Rivera if he's not feeling good. There's been at least three games this year where he didn't put Rivera out there, as he knew he wasn't 100 percent. If Jenks was healthy, then I would have had no problem with him being left out there that long. Torre has a nice cushion, and can be afforded the luxery of playing somewhat-injured players. If Bobby's medically cleared to play by Herm and everyone involved in that decision, then I have no problem putting him in. I do think it was a mistake not to have Thornton face Grady, but I don't blame him for showing some confidence in his pitcher. I hope we win this ballgame. I don't want this to end on such a bulls*** note.
  11. I don't blame Ozzie for Jenks inability to get it done tonight or in Boston last series, like I don't blame Ozzie when Thome strikes out swinging or Konerko douple plays or AJ swings at a first pitch that would've hit him if he hadn't swung.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Our manager is as unlikeable as it gets in baseball. I like him. I love Guillen.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) When he's on your team . . . But even then, you only hate him less.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) #55 and #56 have both been launched out of the park tonight. He is now 6 homeruns away from breaking Roger Maris' single season record of 61 homeruns. Mmhmm, I want him to, real bad. Prove that it can be done without steroids.
  15. Tigers. Take it safest. Minnesota's real close to us. I just can't root for them because of it. Actually, I'd prefer Tigers take 3/4.
  16. First on my offseason priorities list: get rid of Hawk. (I do genuinely believe that he holds DJ down quite a bit.)
  17. I do like Uribe, though, and wouldn't mind him next year, but he isn't a must, either.
  18. I wouldn't be too upset if we packaged Anderson with someone for a good player, and I'd love some Sweeney on the Southside next year. I'm not sold on Anderson as an "All-Star down the road" but I do think he's a solid player, of course. Still, he's not an untouchable IMO, but then again, no one is, for the right price. I love the fact that Kenny is interested in more, better pitching. Oh, the possibilities.
  19. Let's win this. (My own personal view: this is the series I most dread. The Indians are probably the team that gets most pumped playing us, and they've owned us this year.)
  20. I liked SoxMachine's take.
  21. I remember Garland's last start at this park. Thank God he's a whole 'nother pitcher.
  22. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) How bout we just play you guys there this year? BTW, if I am not mistaken we go to your house next year in interleague, which is good as I was looking forward to another trip to US Cellular. I would love it if the Marlins made the World Series this year and won the Wild Card, but I wouldn't put money on it.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) The Tigers have been sweeping crappy teams this entire year. Pointing out one instance where they split isn't going to change the fact that we're not going to catch them and that we will have to sweep some bad teams if we want to win the WC. God, I can't believe we started the Second Half with our heads up our asses. We were right there with Detroit, now look at us!
  24. Let's inflate his ERA dramatically. If not, then squeak out a win.
