I like Eddie Gilbert a lot, since we're talking old school.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) 4 pages each, 1962 or so, big picture of the Amphitheatre on the top of the front page. I am an Amphitheatre collector which is why I have them although I did see a match there featuring the likes of Yukon Moose Cholok, Black Jack Lanza, Big Ernie Ladd, Baron von Raschke, and Mitsu Arakawa and Dr. Moto. Black Jack has some pretty good recipes in the WWF Cookbook I have.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Chase Utley extended his hit streak to 33 also. Hitting streaks are my favorite stat in sports....besides illegitimate kids per NBA player. I'd love it if a guy named "Chase" broke Dimaggio's record.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) They we're actually called the 'Mega Powers', unless I'm totally blanking. Yeah.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) That was Hogan and Beefcake. Weren't Hogan/Savage the Mega Powers?
-
QUOTE(hogan873 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Remember the Mega Maniacs? Hogan and Savage? I hate everything I've ever seen of Hogan and Savage. Hell yeah. I love Dude Love's song.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) The reason we didn't score more is because we stopped discussing wrestling. Back to business. I'm listening to D-X music.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) ECW was great. It hurts me -- honest to God hurts me -- to see what Vince McMahon is doing. If I were a big old steroid monster like Vinnie Mac, I'd beat the hell out of him. As it stands, I hope Paul Heyman hits him in the throat one day.

I hate Randy Savage. STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD!! COME ON TIMO, COME ON TIMO! See the relation?

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) Indeed, Kane was a force. I personally liked the X-Pac & Kane days myself. X-Pac was another favorite, and having them fight together was great. It had it all, speed, power, flare, mystique, and COLOR. Red and lime green. Awesome! I liked it when Kane set JR on fire and didn't do s--- to his body. No explanation, either, for how JR went unhurt, and the storyline died shortly thereafter. I always did prefer ECW.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Wrastlin'? I like me some wrestling. Kane was my favorite back in the pre-stupid days. Now hes just a tool without his mask. I always hated Kane. Always. I've hated Undertaker -- "New Undertaker" -- since, oh, 2001. I

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) First of all, you underestimate the power of the Hulkster. Second of all, that will teach you to never forget Valentine's Day again. Valentine's Day was her birthday. Is, rather. I didn't kill her! I loved her, she was so classy to take care of the Sox game for me when I was dealing with a bad flu.

QUOTE(PA32R @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) Then she dumped you or what?? Yeah, actually, but not as a result of that, and not until February of this year. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) You had a girl stay up to watch the end of the game, but you were sleeping? Who wears the pants in that relationship? One of my biggest pet peeves is anyone who says they're a Sox fan, and went to bed before the end of that game. No offese Greg. I don't take any offense at that, actually. I was sick as hell, and we were laying in bed cuddled up. I couldn't stay awake, but was forcing it, and then we sort of agreed that she'd tell me if anything happened. It's amazing that Hulk Hogan can bring us all together!

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) For a guy, I couldn't agree more about knowing the Hogan/Andre situation. For a girl, I was just happy that my fiance knew of Frank Thomas when we started dating. You know, funny enough, I missed a lot of last year's baseball season (maybe half the games) because I spent all that time with a girl. (Not that she made me stop watching, but I decided to take her out more and follow the Sox-by-recap and read game summaries, sadly.) I loved that girl -- she didn't like sports, but watched the World Series with me, and during Game Three, at a time when I was feeling ill and wound up collapsing in sickness/sleepiness, she was sweet enough to stay up and wake me as soon as Blum homered.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) Gregory, Yes I agree. Kind of like seeing "Animal House". And you've seen that movie, yes? Yeah, but I didn't like it much.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) She's the same age as me....she just wasn't a wrestling fan. To her credit, she had heard of Hulk Hogan though. She just didn't understand the legend of Hulkamania. Well, still, I'm stunned that she never got to experience any of him on television or anything like that. I was always under the impression that Hogan's bodyslam of Andre was a cultural thing that everyone has witnessed, at least in replay. I hate Hulk Hogan, though, but, hey, to wrestling before it sucked!

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) That's before my time, unfortunately. There's no bigger icon in the world than Hulk Hogan. I'm just thankful that the reality show has been playing so that my fiance can witness Hulkamania (just a terrible parent). Are you marrying a twelve year old?! How big's the gap in your age and your girlfriend's, tiger? (I just think it's so odd that you'll know something about Hulkamania while she has to watch....VH1...)

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) Anyone who doesn't think Hawk b****es about balls and strikes obviously has the TV turned down and is listening to the radio. Be careful there, Tiger.

I'm about done with this thread. I think it's clear that I feel Freddy's a bum.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) or Ross Perot in 1992 without him Bill Clinton probably wouldn't have won http://www.uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/nat...0&year=1992 Bull. Perot took votes from Clinton just as much as Bush. Otherwise is a bogus myth. But, otherwise, I'm amazed at how stupid some Liberals can be in voting for a third party when they know it'll lead to a REAL momo getting elected.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Maybe Garcia threw his arm out last year? We have absolutely no clue what has happened to his fastball. Those are pretty strong words for someone who's pitching for your favorite team. There have been hundreds of other professional athletes who have ruined their careers with substance abuse. Garcia is definitely not one of them. What about steroids -- those are substances he might've abused, and that I think are very possible. His velocity's been going down year after year, and he's in the prime of his career, too, age-wise. I didn't say that heavy pot use diminished your ability, on its own. All I said was that the whole Garcia package is rotten, and coupled with the pot use there are some seriously problems. And, for anyone who is saying that he's hurt, might've thrown his arm out, or simply had a "lazy" offseason, I don't think that's the case. His velocity is gone for good.
-
QUOTE(kevo880 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) I'll be glad when he's gone too because hes not pitching like he used too, however his personal life has nothing to do with me wanting him gone. Normally I'd agree with that sentiment, but when what he does in his free time has made him into a mediocrity, there're some problems.

QUOTE(kevo880 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) yeah thats pretty much what i do with my time, look every time you mention someone smoking marijuana. im not saying thats not an option as to why he has gotten worse as a player but it wouldnt be one of the first things that come to mind considering the types of enhancements that were used in the 90's and early 2000's. All I'm saying is everytime anything is mentioned about Freddy your name seems to follow it with him smoking marijuana. congrads on not ever drinking or doing anything harmful to your body, maybe you can go out there and teach Garcia a thing or two about how to live. Freddy Garcia is a big fat washed up lazy pot smoker who might possibly be feeling the after-effects of steroid use. I'll be glad when he's gone next spring. And I didn't always feel this way about Freddy, either, but whatever. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) There's no way to know if he's hurt, or it's just an excuse for a lack of velocity this season. If he was really had bone chips like they said he did, they wouldn't have brought him off of the DL. I think the whole reason some of us are commenting on the marijuana issue is because you bring it up everytime you discuss Garcia's condition. Last time I checked, an offseason of drinking alcohol is just as likely to make someone gain weight. Whatever it was, Garcia should be ashamed at what he's done to himself.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) Do you honestly believe that Garcia's marijuana use has led to his physical condition this season? Garcia has been a NOTORIOUS partier for years...I'm sure whatever he did this offseason was no worse than what he's done in the past. The more I hear injury/steroid excuses for our starters, the more it annoys me. We have a lot of pitchers who threw a ton of innings/pitches last season, and it's not an exaggeration to say they were very stressful innings also. By no means are we the first team to make a long postseason run, and then the next season, our pitching just wasn't effective. I don't know, Cliff Politte lost a lot of his talent this offseason. Should I send him a bunch of fritos and twinkies? Didn't you read what I wrote, fathom, or are you intent on putting words in my mouth? I said that steroid use was probably a more likely explanation, but that I don't feel his extra weight and all these other things help. And, about Politte, we know he's hurt and has been playing hurt. His elbow's all messed up.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) You don't use Tylenol? No, actually, I don't. If I'm sick I go to the doctor, and they prescribe me something, but I don't get sick that often. Maybe when I get older.
