QUOTE(kevo880 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) Why are you so obsessed about Freddy smoking pot? no one else on this board ever talks about it but you. just because he got caught in the offseason doesnt mean hes a pothead and does it all the time. im sure you drink sometimes does that make you and alcoholic? i really dont think thats the reason freddy has lost velocity and isnt the same pitcher. The steroids or amphetimines makes a lot more sense to me. Uh, in that instance, I was responding to something someone else said, which I'm sure you must've read unless you're simply following me about the board looking for Freddy Comments. Why are you so upset by me musing about Freddy's drug use -- are you trying to defend Freddy's reputation, Mrs. Garcia? All I did was say that, hey, he's getting fatter, was caught with too much marijuana in his system, and has lost velocity in his fastball. Marijuana + Freddy might = why he's out of shape and throwing softer. Steroids and amphetamines seem like a better fit to me, too, but I don't put it past him that, hey, drug use might be a problem for dear old Freddy. And, not to play holier than thou, but I don't drink, do drugs or smoke cigarrettes, either. I don't take pain pills when I get hurt because I have a personal rule about dealing with pain (ever since I split my right index finger open on the Fourth of July in an accident a few years ago), and I don't take Tylenols, either. What else are you sure of? QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Didn't you know, Garcia is the only MLB player to smoke pot. Also, I'm sure if Garcia did do it in the offseason, it likely wasn't his first time ever doing it. Thus, why didn't he lose his velocity in season's past if this is the way he "trains" in the offseason. Don't put sarcastic words in my mouth, fathom. I'm sure plenty of players smoke pot. I don't see that many that have also gotten fatter, appear lazier, and have lost a lot of their talent, too.

Better than Brokeback Pratt.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) I hate them all. I can go out with my wife if I want to spend a fortune to go home frustrated.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) Am I missing something here? That's still a difference of 72 HRs, 59 BA points and 229 OPS points. That's incredibly drastic a difference. Sure, but he plays perfectly fine away, too.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) He's a fraud, he's a perfect candidate to be hated IMO, he's talked about like he's a sure fire hall of famer at times when in reality he is not nearly a hall of fame caliber player. All the more reason to like Mikey. His splits aren't as drastic as you're making them out to be: By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Away 808 132 253 67 2 28 108 169 8 122 2 2 .313 .433 .505 .938 Home 831 210 309 76 7 57 184 175 6 102 4 2 .372 .481 .686 1.167 That's over the last three years.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) I care more about on field performance than a person's character but that's just me. Even using that criteria there are certainly better choices, IMO.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) He is without a doubt my least favorite player in all of baseball. .370 Avg. @ home in his career only .295 on the road also his Home OPS is 240 points higher than his road for his career. In other words he's a pretty decent 1B on the road but one of the greatest players in the history of baseball at home, odd. Jeffrey Hammonds 2000 Wow. There are some better choices out there to be had, but to each his own.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) Don't they get tested for pot in MLB? I don't believe so. Freddy failed the international pot test for the WBC, heh.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) That may be. Let's remember, he started losing velocity last year, not just this year. And in a strange coincidence, last year was the year they installed a drug testing policy. Damn, now I'm even more discouraged. The thing that makes me doubt that, though, is that he has hit the mid-90s in a few games this year. He can still do it sometimes, and that makes me wonder about his 'roid use. In my mind, the alternative is that he's just been getting fatter (that we can see with our own eyes) and has lost a lot of focus, and probably is hitting up too much marijuana. Hell, it could be both.

I still think Freddy Garcia is simply off steroids.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Only the underachievers.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) Wow, that is pretty harsh right there. Count me in as one who does not hate him and still hopes that he can straighten things out. Don't mind him -- he craps on all of our pitchers.

The Maddux trade was bizarre to me. The Cubs really don't get s--- back.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) 1.32 vs Cle No starts vs Tor Cleveland's a great offensive team. Verlander's the real deal.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:29 AM) Where Verlander has looked human is against good offenses in the AL: 10.80 vs. NYY 11.42 vs. CHW He hasn't pitched against Boston. I hope we face him a bunch more.... How'd he do v. Toronto and Cleveland?

I'll bite. I'm with ya.

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) I disagree. I think the division is there for the taking. All we need is our SP's to get their act together. They have a history of success. It's time to dial it up. Bob Ours for the taking? It's theirs to lose.

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm, but Redman got destroyed by the rangers the other night! Nobody destroys Mark Redman!

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) This was a normal win. I'd still like to see us rack up 15 and beat the everliving crap out of a team. St. Louis!!! -
Actually, I wouldn't mind some Mark on Mark action.

Come on Buehrle, use this is a pad. Am I the only one happy that we're missing out on the fearsome Mark Redman?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) Would you rather have Ortiz or Pujols at the plate in that situation? Pujols.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) I'd rather throw Bmac at this for a few innings. He's capable of it and if all goes well he's the only guy we'd have to use. That or Mac one and MacDougall one. No reason to use our main guys and Cotts needs a freaking rest cause he has been stinking it up. Black Mack is a back of the pen type.

Leadoff triple, and three outs for Contreras. But don't worry -- he lacks guts.
