  1. Semien before the 7th??! Go on...
  2. Great post. - Personally I wouldn't pay for Martin, career year over 30 plays the most demanding position on the diamond. I would prefer Hahn try and buy low on Grandal, his sept is a marked improvement over the rest of his year. - I've been saying for a few months now that trading Alexei to the yankees makes way too much sense and honestly we should be looking at a package similar to this for his services RHP Luis Severino, LHP Manny Banuelos & SS Jorge Mateo - Sign Rasmus he hits everything that Hahn is looking for: Left hand, power, defense relatively young & shouldn't cost much. I agree we should be looking for 4 outfielders total though but i still think in a rebuilding year Wilkins should be given 3-500 major league at bats just to close the book on him if he is only a AAAA player. If we're going to add a pitcher I think the sox would be better served adding Maeda than anyone else out there this offseason and Rodon shouldn't be brought up till super 2 passes, Hahn has figured out how to deal with Boras and its simple: limit the number of draft picks represented by him and precede to sign every other pick leaving him with a finite budget in addition to leaving yourself an out with a reach incase he denies you.

    Semien

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) But remember call-up numbers don't mean much. The level of competition tends to drop off as opponents are also using AA and AAA talent especially pitching. Even defensively youmg players may play different positions as we have seen Semien move around. Hopefully he arrives next spring with a set position and looks better than he did this spring. After looking at the game logs for Marcus I don't agree with that sediment at all, yes the twins pitching is soft but he has still faced their better pitchers(hughes and perkins) and hes also gone up against the royals, athletics and rays' staffs as well. long and short of it I think Marcus can be an above average major league regular. 280+/360+/450 with a 20/20 season doesn't seem remote to me.

    Semien

Honestly on that play i thought Semein showed a fair amount of range and Avi should've called him off but this is a young players being young. What I've really like out of Semein since his call up is the following: .282/ .333/ .436 - .769 he has cut his walk and strikeout rate (4.7% BB 16.3% K) in half respectively because he is being more aggressive in the count. I feel in this SSS he is showing he is capable of dropping his strikeout rate and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him move his walk rate north of 8% and closer to 12%ish while maintaining his current strikeout rate, his .ISO looks great out of the middle infield even better if he plays short full time.
  5. lol @ hawk referring to Semien as Ramirez, nice DP. Semien from the 3 plays hes made there have looked decent there.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 02:31 AM) Rasmus is probably going to be offered three or four years. Sure, he might be interested in a shorter-term deal, but he's worn out his welcome in two places already. Pass. Way too inconsistent. I highly doubt he gets more than 3 years with the third year being an option the market is weary after bj upton s*** the bed. There just aren't that many quality FAs available especially that fit what Hahn has gone on record as saying the sox need. a Left handed power bat for the outfield, seems to me like Rasmus hits all the check marks: Cheap, Younger, Left-handed, Power, Solid outfielder. If Rasmus's agent is smart he will want a short deal where he can hit free agency when he turns 30. Its time to put up or shut up for Wilkins, I've previously posted Jones vs. Wilkins in the minor league thread but i'll repost it here. Same age and level. Its possible he is a solid DH option or a AAAA player he needs 600+ major league ABs to determine that. Agreed if Hahn can't get a better option for starter or back up. Agreed he needs to be healthy to play but Saladino destroys left handed pitching .330/.396/.543 - .939 and has the defensive tools and merit to handle a utility role especially when you factor in his age and performance, he is a great in house platoon partner for Conor. Especially in a year when we aren't competing. I disagree, Sanchez has always been regarded as the best defensive MI in the sox system till Rondon was acquired. Carlos has been mentioned time and time again as a gold glove caliber second basemen, his glove should be more than passable at SS and his profile plays up even better there and trading from a place of depth is exactly what smart rebuilding teams do. It does the sox no good if Micah is blocked by Sanchez and Semien and isn't going to be moved off of second. Alexei has surplus value but this team is loaded to the gills with middle infielders and we aren't expected to compete next year, the sox will be better served moving that salary due to his age. what is the point of this statement? obviously prospects bust, but that doesn't mean you stop acquiring them for assets that no longer serve a purpose in your organization. Prospects are the definition of the law of independent trials at play. its 1:30 in the morning and I have a screaming/teething baby, forgive me We spent nearly that much money on Crain and thats the going rate for set up men on the market. The sox payroll next year is $46,166,666, they should easily be able to add 40-60M to replicate their '14 payroll.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 06:34 AM) Quintana is currently 9th in WAR for starting pitchers. Even if you don't love advanced metrics, it's quite clear that Jose is an incredible pitcher. Moving him creates yet another hole in the rotation and pushes back our competitive window another 2 to 3 years IMO. I'm 100% against trading Quintana. Him, Sale, & Rodon can be the core of an elite rotation for the next 5 years. Trading him for potential impact players is a bad idea when he already is one and is already signed to a team-friendly long-term deal. Agreed, If the sox need to move anything to fill their roster it should be from areas where we have surplus depth MI(Ramirez, Johnson, Sanchez, Semien & Anderson) and CI(Davidson, Ravelo & Michalczewski) in that order. As you said elite pitching is going to be focal point for this franchise for the next 5 years between Sale, Quintana & Rodon. Noesi appears to be capable 4 or 5th starter so that leaves keeping Danks or eating a portion of his salary and closing the book on him. Frankly it wouldn't surprise me to see the Sox if he can right himself next year and if he can move him without picking up much if any of his contract at all. I think they let Rodon stay down at AAA till super 2 passes to get an extra year of service out of him. Its very possible for the sox to be a dark horse in the central next year but '16 is the year when we are expecting to compete. Having said all that this is what I hope Hahn's offseason looks like. C - Flowers has proven he belongs at the major league level the question is in what capacity? I would still like to see if he can buy low on Grandal. If some one else is brought in, Nieto should go down to AAA and get more reps on his defense, a lot more reps. DH - Let Wilkins play it out in hopes he can develop into a Garrett Jones type of player keep Viciedo as a back up option at DH/1B and emergency corner outfielder. 1B - Abreu 2B - Semien SS - Sanchez 3B - Gillaspie with a healthy Saladino backing him up LF - Garcia, his arm still plays and he is young enough to still develop into an average defender. CF/RF - Rasmus sign him to a 2 year deal similar to Melky Cabrera's with the exception being a 2M buy out for '16 so 2/16 CF/RF - Eaton Bench UT - Saladino C - Nieto OF - Danks DH - Viciedo UT - Garcia Rotation Sale Maeda / Latos Quintana Noesi Danks Bullpen CL - Petricka SU - Putman SU - Miller MR - Guerra MR - Webb LO - Snodgress Batting order L Eaton R Semien L Gilaspie R Abreu L Rasmus R Garcia L Wilkins R Flowers S Sanchez Trade Alexei Ramirez to the yankees for the following: RHP Luis Severino, LHP Manny Banuelos & SS Jorge Mateo
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) OT- Jeff Fletcher ‏@JeffFletcherOCR 54s Gordon Beckham is 7 for his last 16 after starting 0-for-7 with #Angels Thats great i'm sure our PTBNL is based off his performance similar to Crain last year so lets hope he continues his tare.
  9. that hook is nasty, hes got nice command of it to.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Viciedo is just a disaster in the outfield right now. Bassitt doesn't seem to have a strike out pitch. I think his curve shows a fair amount of promise, hopefully he can develop into a solid back end pitcher.
  11. good god Viciedo's defense is terrible.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) Hug watch? Wilkins called up. very excited to see what he is capable of at this level.
  13. it looks like Nieto has already cost bassit two strikes on his fastball..
  14. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) I predict 4-4 with 2 jacks tonight. Because I can. I like it, I'll say 5-6 with 2HR and the cycle tonight as well as an IBB as the bullpen s***s the bed over a nice Bassit debut that goes to extras.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) Personally, I'd love to move Alexei this offseason because I think there will be a good market for him. With Beckham out of the picture, I give Semien the inside track to the 2B job, Micah time to get back to health in AAA, and let Leury and Sanchez duke it out for the full-time job at SS. Both of those guys deserve a long look, IMO, and in the worst case scenario that neither of them hit at all, we at least know that Leury can hold it down defensively for 2015. Unfortunately for Saladino, he's got to play his way into a spot in Spring Training or hope that some injuries/ineffectiveness combine to give him a shot during the season. Ideally, he's full-time SS in Charlotte with Sanchez up at the big league level, giving Micah plenty of reps at 2B. If Davidson continues to struggle, Gillaspie regresses, and Micah performs, Semien can shift to 3B and when Micah is ready to take a stab at 2B. I'm not worried about Rondon at the moment -- he has plenty of learning to do on the offensive side. I'm with you nearly across the board on this. Alexei is likely going to finish at 3-3.5WAR lets say he keeps up his decent second half and finishes at 3.5WAR. In a short order he'll be 33 years old and under contract for one more year for 10M with an option for his age 34 season with a 1M buy out. If you figure he'll regress by .5-.7WAR season to season lets see what value he has going into this offseason. WAR right now appears to be 6-7M. So lets say alexei posts a 2.5WAR next season and a 2WAR season in 2016. In 15 he should have a surplus value of 7.5M and in '16 we're looking at a surplus of 4M; these numbers are aggressive in both his regression and the cost of a win. all told that 11.5M in surplus value. Going by this article from '10 the value of a top 100 rank 75-100 hitter is nearly 18M and for a pitcher ranked between #11-100 you're looking at 19.5M-14.6. Having said all that there are two things you have to take into account inflation and opportunity cost. Alexei will not cost a draft pick and I would put a 40% he could see a QO by the time is contract is done, thats a best case scenario, addtional theoretical value of 15.46M to add to him. When you factor all that in Hahn if he feels so inclined to trade him, (which i would seeing how the sox have Sanchez and Semien ready) he should be able to get two mid to back end top 100 prospects for Ramirez. The market at short is questionable going into this offseason: Hanley Ramirez will be 31 and cost a draft pick and still has defensive worts at SS and JJ Hardy will be 32 and also cost a draft pick. Asdrubal Cabrera can't be extended a QO and will be 29 and it doesn't make sense for the A's to extend a QO to Jed Lowrie who will be 31. Lastly Stephen drew whos 32 has been putrid this year. I think Hahn is very well positioned to extract some value this offseason with Ramirez. I think Leury is best served on the bench as a defensive sub and pinch runner, the 25th man on this roster. I hope Saladino comes back healthy because I think he has earned a shot at being a UTL player at the major league level and he crushes left handed pitching would be the perfect in house platoon partner for Conor. I would just let Johnson and Davidson get another go round of AAA there is no need to rush them and try and shoehorn both of them in at the major league level when some more seasoning and health would serve them well. I know its very apparent so it most likely won't happen but I would like to see Alexei moved to the yankees for RHP Luis Severino #65 overall prospect(ton of helium), LHP Manny Banuelos (will be 24 next year came back from TJ still has great stuff but has fallen out of favor, stagnating at AAA change of scenery) and SS Jorge Mateo a great looking shortstop way off in the distance at rookie level a nice depth piece to bring along slowly with Micker and the intl signees from this year.
  16. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Semien 2/3 with 2 2B 1BB 1K. Average up to .271! Gotta find some room for his bat in the lineup. He is en fuego. Nearly has a BB/K% of 1 thats incredible. Post ASB he is hitting .299/.419/.528 - .947. I would really love to see both him and Sanchez starting the MI next season with Semien batting 2nd. After being sent down and taking some lumps at the ML level, personally I am ready to see the sox stick with him in a full time role and letting him work through any issues in Chicago. Both Johnson and Davidson wouldn't be stunted by another go around at AAA.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) Because of this loss, the Sox have moved from 10th pick to #8 pick. 1 GB of Twins for 7th pick. If the Rangers come back and win tonight, we will be 7 GB of the #1 pick. Matuella Aiken Bickford Bregman Kirby in that order for me
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) We can pay someone a lot less to put up similar or better production as a 4th OF. I'd take Jordan Danks. He has shown flashes offensively, and his defense is lightyears ahead of De Aza. Money isn't the issue here there is a dearth of talent on the FA market like never before, even for alleged 4th outfielder types. De Aza's situation with the sox appears just like Conor's heading into the offseason last year fans think that 1WAR floor players are just readily available, and they're not, as hard as it might be to imagine De Aza has real value and the sox aren't just going to piss that away for nothing. De Aza is set to make 5-5.5M next year in his last year of ARB and should finish this season with 1WAR the going rate for that right now on the market is between 6-7M. I have a hard time believing that De Aza isn't capable of eclipsing his production from this year in his FA season after how horribly he started this season and was able to recover and become respectable. Jordan is a 5th outfielder on a bad team.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) Why is he insurance for Eaton when they don't like him playing CF? Hes made 12 starts in CF this year and the white sox still want a capable lead off man if Eaton goes down. I don't mind De Aza on this team again next year as a little more than a 4th outfielder.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) Praying for Eaton to play 150+ next year. Thats why I don't think they move De Aza, he is a capable player and a great insurance policy for both Eaton and Avi
