  1. Amazing deal for both parties and Eaton has a ton of upside Dave Cameron was saying he could go all "Brantley/Gomez".
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) This would make me unbelievably happy. Having Matuella in addition to Danish, Montas and Adams wold be fantastic depth. I'm on the Fulmer / Matuella hype train. Just need one of those 3 to pan out as a #3 and one as a nice BP piece to consider it a win anything more and its gravy. Adding another arm this year at 8 will be huge. Its nice to dream on a rotation of Sale Montas/#8 pick Quintana Danish/Adams Rodon
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 03:50 AM) and if true, then someone in the top 5 will fall, leaving some possible better players for the #8 pick. Minor League Madhouse has us taking Mantuella at 8 link
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) The latest Fangraphs Audio with Kylie McDaniel they were discussing that exact AB last year. They said Chris Reed was the best hitter in all of college last year and he just aced him out of the bullpen in that AB. They said Fulmer has the weirdest, most alarming mechanics of all the top college arms. Then McDaniel's said that he is done discounting players with painful deliveries because he has been wrong so far about Tyler Danish. Made me think Fulmer would be such a perfect fit for us. But then again, Ian Happ is doing big things so far. Hitting about .500 through 5 games with 2 HR and 5 RBI. I just listened to that podcast after I posted this. Personally I like him more than Funkhouser and if the sox are in contention I don't see why they couldn't offer a similar deal as sale with the goal to stretch him out eventually but ticket him to the bigs in the bullpen for a divisional push. Its not as if thats a death sentence and he is really polished out of the pen and as a fan I wouldn't consider that wasting the #8 pick if the expectation is that he is a starter. His mechanics remind me of Roy Oswalt a bit as well.
  5. I'm really looking forward to how this draft shakes out, It appears to be very heavy on college pitching, solid on high school pitching/hitting and very light on collegiate hitting. With the sox picking at 8 and then all the way at 114 and a bonus pool of $5,540,051 it'll be very interesting to see how Hahn and company go about this draft. Personally I like Fulmer a lot, weird arm action, elite stuff and under-sized; all the underpinnings that scream white sox. I'm hoping the sox sign him or if a top arm falls similar to a Lucas Giolito situation snatch him up. If Fulmer is the pick I hope they can sign him under slot a bit and land a Bryce Montes de Oca type. Last years assigned value for #8 was $3,190,800 nearly 58% of the pool this year.
  6. Adding Emilio Bonifacio would be great. Him and Saladino can platoon with Conor and LaRoche while providing solid defense across the diamond.
  7. I honestly think the cubs and nats will make something happen for one of their pitchers and maybe even Harper. They're one of the few teams to have the assests to make it happen and look forward to locking them up long term at market rate.
  8. I think they let Sanchez take it out of the gate and give him a similar leash as Semien last year, all the while giving time for Micah to prove his health and get some more polish at AAA.
  9. CL - Robertson SU - Putnam SU - Duke (L) MR - Petricka MR - Guerra MR - Webb MR - Garcia (L) LO - Surkamp (L)
  10. The rotation is very exciting and still a fair amount of money left over and if jerry wants to party like its '05 he has some deep pockets to reach into for Melky and Headly. If there was ever a year to say f*** it and go for it, this would be it, our top ten pick is protected and they have a lot of money to spend.
  11. Wow, go get a left fielder and maybe Grandal and I'm happy. Sad to see Marcus on his way out but Micah, Sanchez and a couple of options in Fernandez and the other cuban import excite. Lets gun for the wild card boys maybe Detroit falters and we can compete for the division. should make for a great summer.
  12. Its an ok move, when the going rate for someone like Cuddyer is accepting a QO of 15M and Billy Butler is getting 3/30, I'm ok with this. Still need one more piece in the bullpen a right handed starter an outfielder and a upgrade at catcher wouldn't be terrible.
  13. I'm not against moving Q but it has to be for the right deal, but Bruce to me isn't enough. The trends on his numbers worry me, as others have said 5 straight years of BB% decline 6 straight years of K% increase. He's got 25.5 guaranteed the next three years and 37.5 total if they pick up his option. Players like him and Cargo are the right type to target but I'm against giving up such a huge piece of the sox core and taking on their respective contracts while giving up so much.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) There's no way Phil Rogers actually wrote that. It's all way too logical and makes too much sense. That was my first take as well but going through his points. I think with Rodon we should either break him in the rotation at the start of the season or wait six weeks. With regards to Alexei I'm not opposed to moving him, but I would prefer the front office move him for prospects like Gary Sanchez & Severino or Plawecki & Nimmo that fit our organizational need and would be ready in the very near future. It appears based on what is being reported that LaRoche is going to cost 20M+, I would prefer Hahn go after Morales. I've been a long time proponent of signing Maeda and think he fits very nicely with our organization, 26 year old mid rotation starter that offers the most upside and ROI on the market and takes a lot of pressure off of Montas/Danish/Adams developing into a starter. I like the idea of a bad contract swap for Papelbon theres a 2.4mil difference but I feel we have low level prospects that could smooth it out.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 07:36 AM) I could see that you really thought a lot for this post. very nice. there are a couple of problems I see, no knows what the sox intentions are with Tomas. however this is a forum where fans can post what on their mind and as I said you really did a nice job. Second is Jose Fernandez. I hope he emerge from where ever he is and comes out healthy. reading more on Jose A and Puig escape, those who are using the smugglers, this is a dangerous trip. so when he show up, he will need to get posted and all that. Thanks Agreed no one knows exactly what the sox intentions are with Tomas, but Hahn has said numerous times that they want a young, left handed power bat for the outfield. Yeah I hope Fernandez comes out unscathed as well once he is cleared i feel alot of the market will have dropped one way or another and the sox are able to wait because they have three in house options for second base outside of Fernandez, where as other teams are going to need to figure out what the hell they're doing in signing the likes of lowrie and cabrera.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 03:32 AM) The problem is that none of those Cubans are going to give us the impact offensively that will justify Abreu +++ money. Tomas, it just doesn't fit. Moncada would be perfect, if we didn't need to allocate that money over these next two offseasons in order to have a contender out of the gate in 2016. He's a luxury/gamble that about 6-8 big market teams can take right now, and the White Sox aren't one of them...not with their current broadcast rights deal. It's going to be a case of the rich getting richer, unfortunately. I agree that none of the cubans outside of possibly Jose Fernandez will have an immediate big league impact and that Tomas isn't what Hahn wants for this club. '15 is our dark horse year if things come together and we're a year ahead of the time line great, if not no big deal we weren't supposed to be ready yet. I think Moncada would be perfect as well and lines up nicely with the perceived future of this franchise. Both Moncada and Anderson should be ready by opening day '16 if not both a potential call up in september. If the sox don't go big this offseason they would be well served going all in for Moncada and possibly Fernandez, the only impact bats next year on the right side of 30 are Justin Upton (right handed) and Jason Heyward and both are going to cost a ton. I honestly think Hahn will do more than kick the tires on Moncada and Fernandez this year. 100+Mil for Panda doesn't seem very palpable. Our '16 core could be a bright spot for a long time to come. DH -? C - ? 1B - Abreu RH 2B - Fernandez LH / Semien RH / Sanchez SH / Johnson LH SS - Anderson RH 3B - Moncada SH LF - Garcia RH CF - Eaton LH RF - ? SP - Sale SP - Quintana SP - Rodon SP - Montas / Danish / Adams / Noesi / FA SP - Montas / Danish / Adams / Noesi
  17. I'm not against signing him, I would prefer Morales even with his down year because he'll be cheaper but both of these players markets I would assume will be slow to develop. That should allow Hahn to check in on all of the recent cuban defectors that should be cleared by the OFAC in the not too distant future as well as Maeda provided he gets posted.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) $60? I'll eat Dick Allen's shoes if that happens. I'm not saying its going to happen but its well within reason to spend that much if the right deals came about. The big free agents this year are all of the cuban imports, possibly Maeda, Sandoval, Lester and Scherezer, next year its pretty slim pickins after J Upton, J Heyward and Latos.
  19. A couple of things: Seagar isn't viewed by anyone as a shortstop except in namesake. Friedman isn't a fool and realizes that strong defense up the middle especially when they're lacking a true centerfielder is incredibly important. Sox fans in general undervalue their assets; the market this year at SS is a joke. Hardy signed before the off season kicked off you have a ton of middle infielders that aren't qualified to stay at short (Hanley, Lowrie, Cabrera) and a retread that was awful last year any team with world series aspirations and plenty of money wouldn't sign (Drew). Alexei was a 3-3.3 win player last year, and has a very affordable contract this year and next, He has a ton of surplus value even when you factor in regression over the next two years at a .5 to .75 clip. At the very least he should fetch two top 100 prospects in the 50-80 range and a throw in. So even though Joc Pederson was ranked #15 by mlb doesn't take him out the equation for a similar value profile as Alexei's worth in addition to that, thats not even taking into account the fact that you don't surrender a draft pick and slot to acquire him and Hahn is sitting pretty with two untested but capable options in Semien and Sanchez. Lastly as for all this talk of dumping Danks, why? he isn't a toxic asset and its very possible he plays to his contract or slightly under it. He just needs to be worth about a win and a half due to inflation and the amount of cash in the game, last year he was worth .8. Even with Danks on the payroll we still have between 40-60mil to spend in this offseason if Hahn so chooses.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) Grandal was pulled from the lineup on July 31st last year. I agree he'd make sense. That is also a place where Tank is actually a fit. 1B - LH Yonder Alonso - .240/.285/.397/.682 LF - LH Seth Smith - Had a great year last year but sucks against LHP. RF - LH Will Venable - .224/.288/.325./613 The thing that is strange about Hahn's comments in that three way trade is he made it seem like that player was a notable type. The only guys that make sense are Grandal and Ackley. I am not enamored but Ackley but would still love trying to add to the young talent with Grandal. Viciedo + an arm for Grandal would make me very happy. The Padres have plenty of reasons to make that trade too. They have underperforming left-handed options in the corner outfield as well as at 1B. Plus, Rene Rivera was the much better catcher for them this year and Austin Hedges has elite defense at the top of the minor league system. Another thing to consider would be the regime change and how none of these players were acquired by the guy at the helm. Whether the Padres have interest in a guy like Viciedo is uncertain, but they do have three potentially starting caliber catchers in Rivera/Grandal/Hedges. Something has to give there. The thought of Grandal on the south side excites me, that allows the sox to push everyone back a peg; Flowers to back up and platoon, Nieto down to AAA to hone his defensive ability. To your point I don't know if Viciedo would interest them much but power is in short supply and both players are a good "change of scenery" type. Something like Viciedo + Andre Wheeler or Jordan Guerrero, live arms way off in the distance in A ball makes a lot of sense to me.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) too bad no one asked him about how far away he is and what was his opinion on his defense. I did, I submitted it and didn't get a response.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) Passable, probably. But it seems like we'd rather use Sanchez there and leave Semien at second. I agree, Semien could be average at SS. I think to get the most value out of both Sanchez at SS and Semien at 2B would be ideal. That and bringing a rh bat that can platoon with Conor. Ideally Saladino comes back healthy because he should've gotten a look last year and fits the needs of this team. Solid defensively, right handed, crushes left handers and serviceable across multiple spots on the diamond.
  23. If the price is reasonable I'm all for it, he fits everything that Hahn has been speaking of lately. Bad Contract, Young(er), Left handed, Power. With the QO cuddyer would be foolish not to accept so that just gives them even more of a log jam in the outfield. Micah, Erik, Thompson & Beck for CarGO his whole contract(54M) & Rex Brothers
