2011-2012 NBA Season Thread

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) The Bulls have the best record in the East back to back years, how is that 2nd or 3rd? It just depends on what you value, I dont really care about 2nd place in the playoffs, I think thats less of an achievement then best record in the regular season. If NBA champs are the winners, and Finals losers are the 1st losers, then the Conference Finals losers are the 2nd/3rd losers. Best regular season means squat. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) Not when you dont win the Championship game. Id rather win the Conference in the regular season, than just make the finals. Now winning a Championship is > a Conference Title, but just making the Finals? No one cares about the first loser. If they don't care about the first loser, they sure don't care about the second and third losers. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) That's certainly an upgrade. There's no shortage of teams with Red, White, and Blue unis, and frankly, who wants to be associated with the NJ years of that franchise anyways? Good change -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) It's not about whether they DESERVED it, but yes people absolutely do mention it (or more importantly, remember it) just like they do with the '94 rockets. Lebron winning in a shortened season plagued with injuries to 2 superstars in Howard and Rose will always be remembered. There will be an unofficial asterisk next to it. People mention it with the Rockets because the GOAT took a leave of absence between winning 6 titles. Rose isn't Jordan and these Bulls aren't anything compared to those Bulls. The Heat are the reigning Eastern Conference champs. They don't need to prove they can beat a Rose-led Bulls because they already have. There will be no asterisk if Miami wins the title. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) That should eliminate Thibs from COTY contention. If a hard jumpstep is all it takes to ruin him, this injury was inevitable. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Rounds 2 and 3 will have a political theme. I will come up with a replacement for the pizza because deep dish would be too easy over thin crust Deep Dish pizza is disgusting. Chicago thin wins.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) Finished Storm of Swords and am about 200 pages into Feast for Crows. I see what some of you meant about it not being as easy a read. I think maybe since some of the more interesting characters are shelved for a while. And I've noticed chapter lengths are longer. I've enjoyed it so far though, interested in seeing how things tie together and the Iron Islands and Dorne storylines interest me. The Sand Snakes seem intriguing. Some of the more interesting characters were shelved? Basically all of them! Here were the things I was really interested in, coming out of SoS [major spoilers, obviously]: SoS ignores all this (except a little ) in favor of I struggle to read even a chapter a day.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) Im over halfway done with Storm of Swords, I find myself taking more breaks than the last two books. The chapter lengths may be the reason, but I think it's just more dry and not as fast paced as the last two. Also, following some characters just becomes redundant: -Sam: Im scared but Im cant be, wait I wet myself -Jaime: Cersei, Cersei, Brienne youre a wench, Cersei, Cersei -Catelyn: I need to be stronger, i want to cry, I push my family away, I shouldn't do that, Push them away farther And Sansa is one of the most frustratingly hard characters to read about/read from her perspective. The last 40% of Storm of Swords is non-stop awesome. When I was where you were at, I had the same feeling: "This is good, but why does everyone say this one is the best?" Then BOOM.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Man, this has taken over my day looking into all my options here. Anyone overclocked their stuff? Is that easy to do, i.e. can you just let a computer program handle it? Overclocking has become a much easier process, yes.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) Eh, I played WoW for a number of years, so i'm just going in thinking it's the same thing. I'll expect the occasional, but rare, outage. So for those that know - is there a big performance jump between AMD and Intel? I should just be looking for (1) fit with the motherboard and (2) speed right? Performance comparisons http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2 Pick a CPU, then pick a matching mobo after that.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) Also, what's the best place to buy the parts? Amazon? Newegg? Other? I like Newegg. Shipping is usually free and always fast and they have good customer service (I ordered a case from them and UPS banged it up and refused to take responsibility. Newegg paid for a new side panel for it).

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) I'm sure some of the other people who actually work in the field can offer stronger recommendations (y2hh?), but I run free anti-virus from Avast! on my machines and haven't had any issues. Same. No problems with Avast here.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) I'm partial to Tyrion myself. Beric Dondarrion, Barristan Selmy, Oberyn Martell, Victarion Greyjoy, Mance Rayder and Ramsey Snow are bad asses though. Sorry about the spelling. I'm on the phone. HODOR

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) What about power supply? My buddy recommended I get this graphics card: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-6850...pd_rhf_dp_p_t_1 Looks like it requires a 500w power source. Is that a mandatory thing or just a recommended thing? I can't tell what the computer i'm looking at has http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Desk...p;skuId=3155928 edit: looks like it's got a 300W supply. Google "power supply calculator" and enter your parts. It will give you a recommended minimum for the PSU. I strongly doubt 300W is going to be sufficient. Also, good brand 300W PSU is WAY better than a no-name 300W PSU, which is what the BestBuy unit probably has.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) Your p/s will come with all the power cords. You'll need a couple of SATA cables to hook up your DVD and HD drives. If you buy the retail version and not the OEM version it may come with the SATA cables. I think my mobo came with at least one and I pillaged the other from my old computer. I think most mobos usually come with 2-4 now. The one from my earlier Tom's Hardware link comes with 2.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) I checked that tomhardware link. If I bought all of the components of their $600 system, does it come with all the parts I need? For example, tiny little screws I need to mount the mother board to the case, wires to connect everything etc. My computer hardware installation is limited to installing some new ram and a video/sound card.....nothing crazy. Also, are all cases equal? Looks like they recommend a $30 case, but why couldn't I just take apart the one I have and use that? The motherboard you buy would come with the screws. I've never had to buy any parts (screws/connectors/etc) when building a computer. As far as the case goes, What is your existing case? If it's some standard ATX case, you'll be fine. However, companies like Dell often use proprietary case-mobo combinations that won't work with anything else.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) Jenks, When I was thinking desktop, I was considering the X51 as desktop computer that can run games. http://www.alienware.com/Landings/desktops.aspx Its small and I figured I could pick it up and move it to different rooms like my PS3. Its a little bit more expensive, so it depends on the longevity. Unless something major has changed (which I doubt with them being bought out by Dell), Alienware has always been extremely overpriced for their performance. Build your own.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) So, I used to be on top of this stuff back in the day, but now not so much. It's been about 6 years since my last desktop purchase and my old Gateway is becoming slower and slower and more of a pain in the ass. So what's a decent computer these days? It will be used primarily for web surfing, photo viewing (not editing), the occasional Netflix watch and the occasional game, though I'm not sure i'm interested in anything other than Diablo III and that seems to have a moderate set of requirements but nothing too drastic. I can get an i5 processor with 8gbs of ram (expandable to 16) and a 1tb hard drive for about $530 bucks at Best Buy. It has an internal graphics card, so I might have to drop a hundred or two on a new graphics card, but that seems to be a good price. Everything jumps in price 2-300 bucks when you look at the i7 stuff. Anyone have one? Is it worth the jump? Are i5's pretty fast (keeping in mind i'm stuck with a dual core 1.8ghz proc with like 3gb or ram now)? Thoughts are much appreciated. There's no way you need an i7. Diablo 3 has low requirements. You can look at guides like the stuff at Tom's Hardware. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-...clock,3159.html

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Has that really been established? It's what all his bannermen are calling for. Robb seems to want it too. He just doesn't want to deal with all these schmoes in the South. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Because it really seems more that they want to avenge their father, save their sisters and then figure it out from there. I just dont see the Baratheon's and Stark's fighting, unless its picking a side between the 2 brothers. I'm sure the Starks would be content with a divided North and South Westeros, but not the Baratheons...
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) This is why he is dangerous. Some men just want to watch the world burn, or in this case, whores beat each other to death. Hated that scene. There is so much good stuff in the books getting cut just so they can make up pointless scenes (Joffrey is a douche? no kidding) for this Ros character. She must be sleeping with some producer.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) Stark's fighting is more about the death of Ned than the want to be King. Also, independence for the North.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Im thinking that Stannis beats Renly and you have Stark/Baratheon v. Lannister with Greyjoy screwing around in the North. Stannis views Robb as a usurper just like Renly. He's not going to ally with him.
