2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) I just laugh at the notion that it's better basketball when one guy goes ISO versus a college team that almost always runs set plays or styles. Obviously not every NBA team does, and there are still set plays. But it's still pick and roll or ISO offense 95% of the time. I think he's primarily referring to the far lower skill level of college basketball. That's why he pointed out guys who were studs in college ball like Morrison who are terrible in the NBA. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) No it doesn't. The skills you are getting from sports at 6 or 7 aren't the same as even 10 or 11. They are supposed to be learning basic competition, but also teamwork, and getting away from individualism. They are also learning the basics of a particular sport. Seriously. Kid sports at 6 or 7 are mostly chaos.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:38 PM) And Balta I agree that the other episodes make sense, but this one didn't. They got a call to come check out the bank robbery. Why did they get that call in the first place? I don't think it was over the radio. It didn't make sense that they, being two pseudo FBI/San Fran cops, would be notified of a seemingly "normal" bank robbery. It was only after she got the call that someone mentioned that the robber went after specific lock boxes, and that's how they linked it up to the Alcatraz prisoner. JJ Abrams says "Stop asking questions." There are definitely a lot of conveniences for the cops. We have to find the kidnapper! Oh hey I just found a piece of paper that says he worked for a cement company that made bunkers and there's only one in this area! We have to find the sniper! Oh hey I just found a scope in his cell and even though you can see an entire side of San Fran, he must have gone to one of these 2 tall buildings in this photo!

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 07:40 AM) But I haven't never seen a more powerful and athletic dunk, ever, like the dunk tonight. Not only did he dunk on Perkins, he took off from a long distance, jumped so high his head was above the rim, and his arm was fully extended, and threw down a thunderous dunk. the contortion of o his legs just made it more aesthetically pleasing. I don't think it was thunderous at all. The distance, height, and 'get the hell out of my way' factor were great, but the actual dunk was awkward because he was too far away - only his fingertips brushed the rim. It reminded me of the Howard Superman dunk where he threw it in more than anything. I'll take Pippen vs Ewing. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 12:29 AM) New Hampshire Republicans Propose Bills That Prevent Police From Protecting Domestic Abuse Victims You know, I can usually understand the motivations behind bills I find awful. But seriously, wtf? What would ever be the motivation behind these proposals? Some legislator really wants to beat his wife?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 08:35 PM) So... Newt wants to massively cut programs like infrastructure, energy and medicine... but he wants a base on the moon by 2020? WTF? Smoke on that, Soviets! USA #1!

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 10:11 PM) And the team James would be eyeballing most in free agency, say those close to the situation, would be the Cavs. The Cavs? WUT -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) 1. Expanding family, and the FEH was getting a bit tight, especially for road trips to family, etc. 2. Used cars are getting stupid money on trade-in right now, especially hybrids, so the timing was good 3. New cars and financing are both relatively cheap right now 4. The FEH was also just past its warranty, and needed new tires soon as well, so that also contributed to the decision point thing I typically try to keep new cars a little longer than that, more like 5-6 years, but this just made a lot of sense. Gotcha. I have a 2008 Mazda 3 and it feels like I just got it, so it seemed a little odd to me

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Just bought a new car myself. Traded in the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid for a 2012 Honda Pilot Touring. Loving it so far. Superior in most every way to the previous car, except on gas mileage (the FEH was great for that). About financing, Honda was running 1.9% when I bought the car, so sometimes the dealership can do better than outside financing. Always check both. And I highly, highly recommend, especially if buying a new car, you check out the site truecar.com. Gives you the ammo to know exactly what prices everyone is paying, where and when and on what trim levels. Got a price that was very close to the bottom of the range, so I am happy. Just curious: why did you get rid of a car that was only 4 years old?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 05:51 AM) he will not shut up, but he will continue to embarrass dopey CNN debate moderators. How was he embarrassed? Newt looked like a little b**** trying to deflect away from his man-slut past.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) One of the most interesting things I have read during the whole Occupy stuff was a look at the 1% around Chicago that the Trib under took. One of the biggest things that stood out to me was that nearly 50% of them had not just voted, but contacted a public official over the last six months. Contrary to the lunacy of the apathetic, voting and bothering office holders does matter. I doubt office holders are bothered by those large donations.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) The group rallied around the idea that Santorum, and not Gingrich, is the candidate best able to beat President Obama in November. heh

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) It's become quite clear that the right coach/system can make average defenders (something Luol clearly was before last year) look better than they are. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen had no reputation whatsoever as good defenders before '08. Deng defensive win share rank: '12: 1 '11: 4 '10: 36 (missed 12 games) '09: 159 (missed 33 games) '08: 117 (missed 19 games) '07: 5 '06: 24 '05: 52 (missed 21 games, rookie year) He was a good defender before Thibs. -

Deng was 18th in the league (all positions) in Win Shares last year. 4th in defensive win shares last year. He's good. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) I started with college, as I don't really consider HS "higher" education. Ah, I didn't see the word "higher". My bad.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 07:32 PM) His support dropped with every level of higher education. Not true from "high school" (26%) to "some college" (29%), but yes, it did drop the next two levels: college grad (21%), postgrad (16%). Huntsman the only one showing a rising trend with that stat: 11%, 14%, 18%, 23%.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) That's just insanity to me, courtesy votes, really? You should lose your right to vote if you're giving someone a courtesy vote... Why? There's no harm in it. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) How is it that people like Brad Radke and Eric Young got votes? They're just courtesy votes. I think most people here would throw Sox players a vote given the chance even if they didn't meet HOF standards. There's no risk of 75% of voters putting these guys in. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Welcome to the post "Money never sleeps" world. If it weren't for the terrible prequels, Vader wouldn't be as low as #2 eitehr. Nope. Arguably, the prequels should have dropped him much more. He was a little emo biatch and then his turn to the dark side was the result of being a gullible idiot. "Oh you had a dream about your girlfriend dying? Well I'm an evil Sith Lord (totally trustworthy) and I promise that I can help you ressurrect her. Just murder these small children." "HERP DERP OKAY" "NOOOOOOOOO Ok bring her back please" "Hmm? Sorry I'm busy" "UM OKAY BOSS"

I can only think of one bad delivery story in my life and it was UPS. I ordered a computer case and they had obviously dropped the box badly because there was a HUGE gash in the side, resulting in a large dent to the case inside. I called them and they repeatedly gave me the run-around and started to claim that Newegg gave it to them like that (yeah f'in right). Luckily, Newegg bought me a new case door.
