  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) If you know your numbers aren't true, and then make promises based on them, yes you are lying. At least that would have been the standard pre January 2009. So the Democrats lied in order to make their plan look really unsuccessful?
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) You throw "the kid is their punishment" labels. I'm glad you view a child as punishment. Oh wait, you'd rather allow the abortion as "woman's rights" and not think twice about it. Got it. Many Republicans take the "no, except rape/incest" stance, which clearly shows that it's not about the child, but about how the woman got pregnant. Got raped? Not your fault, have an abortion. Had sex? YOUR FAULT, you have that kid.
  3. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) 77% of House Dems and 8% of House GOPers vote against bill allowing our troops in hostile areas "to proactively defend themselves". Unbelievable. I know a bunch of you will whine endlessly if I say democrats are unpatriotic and anti-military, but I really don't know how else to take this. f*** the Republicans who voted against this too. Traitors. What does it mean to "proactively defend yourself"? They're allowed to attack anything they want if they there's a possibility it could be a threat? Isn't this the thinking that got us into the giant mistake that is the Iraq War in the first place?
  4. Felt it in High Point, NC, but I thought it was my washing machine
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) "Life" is obviously an incredibly difficult word to define, but let's compare it to its opposite - death. "Death" is when you have no heartbeat and you have no brain function. So if you have both... An adult with the level of brain functionality of a 5-6 week old embryo (no thoughts, no feelings, no memory, no sensory perception) would almost certainly be considered 'dead' by most people.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) But yet he still hosts Ramadan dinners at the WHite House while completely ignoring Easter. Easter prayer breakfast? Annual egg roll?
  7. lol Hey moderate Muslim from Michigan, you need to head over to the Middle East and straighten out the extremist Muslims. Such a reasonable request!
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 04:55 AM) But cheaters don't think it's harming another person because in their minds their wife will never find out. Which is, of course, nonsense.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) I have to say that I don't agree with what a lot of you guys think about cheating... I'm not saying it's a good thing by any means...but I don't necessarily think it's within our human nature to be committed to one person for our entire lives...which is most likely why so many people cheat. So if we have created an artificial construct, which may go against our nature as human beings, why or how does that make someone who fails to live up to that construct a "bad human being"? Because you are harming another person. If you don't want to commit to one person and would like to be with 5, 10, 20, whatever, you're certainly free to do so. But don't enter a relationship with someone with the implicit idea being that you're going to be faithful if you're not going to be.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) Interesting topic. I don't know if the people I know who cheat are bad persons. This one guy has 2 kids and is a good dad. He just has a lot of money and cheats like crazy. I truly think it's an economic thing. People that are rich and famous sometimes tend to be selfish and feel they deserve to be satisfied sexually at all times. I truly respect guys who do not cheat. But to those who do cheat, it seems like it's a lifestyle thing. They don't think twice. They just cheat. And most guys I know who cheat have a lot of money and/or clout. I am amazed that some of the cheaters I know don't even practice safe sex all the time with the cheatees. That is pretty sad. So he's not only lying to and being disloyal to his SO, if he's not practicing safe sex, he's potentially exposing her to diseases as well. Nice.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) In your opinion you need every person that wants your vote to have been in the military. Military=government funds, thus you would have to increase government funds to support your needs fo your vote. Huh?
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) 2. Christianity isn't killing anyone (at least not in the last few decades) I didn't say anything about killing (though Christians have been killing gays in Africa). Christians don't have to kill to be a threat to the other groups, and they clearly are, especially the 'gay rights' group. Uh huh. I'm sure all gay people are comforted that they're treated like crap by some groups of Christians not because they are hated but because a personal trait of theirs is hated. Some Muslims, yes. But how is "well, at least they don't tend to murder gays" a good excuse? Besides the contradiction, the nonsense about Taoists and Pagans being statistically insignificant, and the obvious lie at the end? Sure. I disagree that pacifists would support Islam over Judaism. I disagree with the implication that all Muslims want to wipe out the other groups. I disagree with its portrayal of Jews and Christians as nothing but victims. Notice the Jewish and Christian symbols take no specific blame ("All religions") for oppressing gays, but gays specifically get called out for being intolerant of them.
  13. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) And by saying this, you're still denying the high quality of these Soldiers by themselves. No, I'm not. But the primary reason our military is better than everyone else's is funding. Right, you need training too.
  14. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Warriors make our military as lethal as it is; not the bureaucrats who sit in their DC offices. Primarily, funding makes our military as lethal as it is.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Nothing in it is untrue, so I don't see the problem. 1) It contradicts itself. Christianity suppresses gay rights at the top but Christianity is 'no threat' to any at the bottom. 2) There are less adherents of Judaism than Taoism OR Paganism, so why doesn't Judaism get the 'statistically insignificant' dig?
  16. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Really? I think a couple episodes have been ok but for most part they have been terrible. I really miss old Eric too. It's probably the worst season yet. There are way too many characters and filler storylines. I can do without any of the following: Tommy Mickens, Hillbilly werepanthers, Tara, Alcide and Debbie joining another pack which will surely turn out poorly, Sookie babysitting Eric, Sheriff Andy's V addiction. What happened to the evil fairy angle from the season premiere? Did they decide that was stupid and switch to the vengeful witch storyline?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Of course not. Saying it didn't really happen is telling me that you think they were telling the truth. No one has called the soldiers liars. To use your earlier analogy: Woman 1: I was raped by John Doe Woman 2: I was raped by John Doe as well Bulls***ter: John Doe raped like 1000 women. Skeptic: There's no evidence of all that. Skeptic is not calling those women liars. Skeptic is calling out Bulls***ter.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) So in laymans terms, Balta is saying the vast majority of soldiers were lying. I'm sorry, my first instinct is to believe these guys over someone who is just working off of his interpretation of anecdotal evident years after the fact. ...no. Balta isn't saying anything about soldiers lying. He's saying that some people take the relatively few stories that soldiers have of these incidents like spitting and try to pass it off as a widespread phenomenon.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Balta pushing the idea that these guys made stuff up and lied about what happened to them when the returned to the US after their tours' of duty. Instead of believing the victim, he is putting them on trial. No, he was putting forth the idea that the frequency of these kinds of incidents is greatly exaggerated.
  20. QUOTE (The Sir @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:49 AM) This is a stupid point. Where is the line drawn? Not sure, but it's certainly much lower than the current size of the military. Your complaints about government spending being too high come across as ridiculous when you're a part of it. I'll admit my last sentence was snotty, and I apologize for that. I provide a valuable service. Couldn't care less if you approve.
  21. QUOTE (The Sir @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 01:58 AM) Also, why do you guys continue to rehash this point? Because you complain about government spending when your job is government spending that is only done because politicians want to peddle their WE GOTTA BE STRONG ON DEFENSE rhetoric.
  22. QUOTE (The Sir @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) Just to expand on my point, CW's statement applies for any company. If a cop doesn't show up for work, that police department will continue to function and the city will still be kept safe. If a fire fighter is dismissed, fires will still be successfully fought in that district. If a cop or firefighter leaves their job, they'd probably be replaced, unless the department was overstaffed already. You wouldn't need to be replaced because the military is far larger than it needs to be. You are an unnecessary use of tax dollars. Actually, if I didn't show up for work, my organization would be in severe trouble since I'm one of only 2 programmers and am the only one who intimately knows a number of our systems. lol, sure
  23. QUOTE (The Sir @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 05:57 AM) I've always maintained that defense is one of the few legitimate areas of government. I'm all for our huge defense budget. Of course you are, it keeps you employed. The military could dismiss you and our country would be 0.00% less safe.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) I think the difference here, really, is that the original Batman is a generation ago and told a very disimilar origin story, and that franchise derailed completely (see nipples and ice hockey vs Arnold Schwarzenegger), while Spider-Man still seems recent, and despite the fact that the third one sucked, people liked Tobey McGwire. Whereas Batman Begins was a true, needed reboot, the new Spiderman seems to be preparing to tell a nearly identical story, save rightfully using a web-tool vs having Spider-Man randomly able to sling goo from his wrists. Other than that, we've still got Uncle Ben, Mary Jane, etc, and what seems to be a very similar storyline, but with a different actor. It seems rushed, but I guess when you plan to make a gazillion Avenger movies you need a younger Spiderman. The dark, serious Nolan Batmans are nothing like the Burton or Schumacher Batmans. That series needed to be rebooted. This Spiderman looks like the same as the first Raimi one, only crappy.
  25. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 04:18 AM) Unless it has to do with raising taxes, democrats want no religion other than Islam anywhere near politics. THAT, they seem to have no problem with. Bulls***.
