2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
CrimsonWeltall replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) End of the game, championship on the line. Who do you give the ball to? Wade or Lebron? Unless you answer Lebron, I dunno how he can be considered the greatest. That's a rather tiny piece of analysis and probably doesn't even favor Wade by that much. You'd take Lebron for the other 47.5 minutes. You'd also take Lebron in the "end of the game, championship on the line, need someone to stop them from scoring" scenario. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) That isn't actually true. The Great pyramid contained no tomb, no mummy, no treasure, and no hieroglyphs inside the chambers. The only graffiti found was in breached areas. You are correct about writings inside the pyramid itself, but they are within burial/temple complexes which do contain writings and they clearly contain burial chambers, even if the contents of them have been looted. Honestly, who are the alternative builders?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Our evidence that they built it, is that is it there and that they were there at the same time. That's it. And that they're clearly Egyptian, entombed Egyptian rulers, and were covered in Egyptian scripts, including some written by the laborers. Are you looking for a surviving papyrus with blueprints on it?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Then why the Hell doesn't the law require a person to consult with a qualified person beforehand? I guess legislators didn't think people would treat 6-figure financial transactions like website TOS agreements: scroll to the bottom, hit accept.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) The unit of measure is immaterial. The relationship between the two objects doesn't change. What is the relationship?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 12:50 AM) You don't need to know it at all, because the ratio of the two is all that matters. It doesn't matter if it was called feet, meters, cubits, or what. If the ratio is 1:12 for example, it doesn't matter what it is determined in, it will always end up being 1:12. Which particular stat are you referring to?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Their astronomical knowledge, engineering abilities and construction capabilities are still remarkable, however. The Goa'uld did all that.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Hell the Eygptians knew many of the things that our modern scientists have "discovered" over the last hundreds of years. http://www.crystalinks.com/gpstats.html It's easy to make the Egyptians "know" things when you fudge numbers and invent your own units like "pyramid inches", that there's no evidence the Egyptians used.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) Actually sailors knew the world wasn't flat, they had sailed away from the coast enough to know that. What they did not know was how big it was. The reason for the near mutiny was they were in danger of running out of fresh water and food if the voyage took too long. They were at the point where they had enough food and water for return trip. Columbus was asking for just one more day for three or four days when they began spotting signs of land. The circumference of the Earth was already well known. Isabella overruled her advisors (who knew Columbus was wrong) to finance the trip.
-
Let's not forget that he was a dumbass. Everyone was rejecting his plans to sail west to India because they knew (based on the circumference of the Earth) that going west would take way longer. Columbus was all "nu uh, the Earth is much smaller, we'll get to India easily". Dumb luck that he happened to run into North America.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 9, 2011 -> 03:53 AM) And he valued that guy's life so little he almost murdered him. That is my point. When we put values on lives, that somehow one person's life is worth more than another, it opens up something I'd rather not. If we stay consistent, that all lives have value, there is no ambiguity. No one is consistent in that. I'm sure you value the lives of your family members more than other people. I'm sure you would rather see the attacker in this story killed than a random good citizen. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) No apology necessary. At work, death is a positive result for you. So just like someone who only owns a hammer sees ever problem as a nail, you embrace the death penalty. The quandary as I see it is we feel this guy is evil (and I agree) because he values life so little he would attempt to kill someone with such premeditation and in cold blood. Then as a society we do the same thing. We value life so little we will kill him in a premeditated and cool blooded fashion. It would be more accurate to say we value HIS life so little that we will kill him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) Where in his extensive catalogue of managerial experience and decision making are you coming to this conclusion from? What managerial experience does he need? If he has half a brain and doesn't make decisions on gut or player favoritism, he'll probably be better than half the managers in the league.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) He was one of my favorite players. This screams of ownership micro-managing more than anything. How is Robin qualified to do this. Honestly, what qualifications do you really need to be a baseball manager? This isn't the NFL or NBA.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) You can probably just jump right in. Yeah but given how short the previous seasons are, if he can get access to them, I think it would be worth watching them first. I watched season 2 before season 1 and it kinda diminished it.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Any highlights or lowlights you would like to share? I wanted to watch but couldn't. The obligatory crowd lowlight was the booing of a gay soldier who asked a question about DADT.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) I've seen random episodes. It honestly looks hokey. It's difficult to watch random episodes since a season is one story. Try season 1, 2, or 3. After that, they largely ran out of ideas and it became ridiculous.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) Making this kind of leap just solidifies the liberals attempt to make Tea Party members a bunch of dumb racist rednecks. Totally unfair and unfounded. 54% of them believe the profoundly stupid statement that American Muslims want to enact Sharia law. There seems to be some foundation for the negative stereotype.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) And again, if the stimulus actually "worked" we wouldn't be looking at handing out another half of a trillion dollars. So anything less than a quick flip back to great growth counts as a failure?
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) And that seems pretty pathetic. Shunning patriots to appeal to foreigners. Cowardly. You've yet to tell us how Americans are shunned or hurt in any way. His concern was specifically that foreign victims were represented by American flags. There's no indication whatsoever that he's worried about what Muslims would think of a bunch of American flags on campus.
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) That is appeasement. Why exactly are we obligated to care how those people feel about American flags? They're visitors here. They can suck it up or leave. Pastoor is just trying to kiss ass. As if being nice to them and bowing to all of their perceived sensitivities will make them like us more or something. You call it what you want. I'll call it appeasement. It's not appeasement...there's no threat. People who died would be better represented by their own flag rather than pretending they're American. It's called being thoughtful. Difficult concept.
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) I don't know why on Earth they'd put my name next to that flag, but hey, it's their country. You don't know why because *it's the wrong flag*, just as Ms. Snowe had 237 wrong flags. He wasn't appeasing anyone and there's absolutely zero "expense" to Americans. Snowe is being a drama queen. Admin: Hey, since a bunch of those victims were from different countries, it would be a good idea to have them represented by their own flag, rather than American flags, which is inaccurate. Consider how they might feel. We can supply the flags. Snowe: OMG LIBERAL POLITICALLY CORRECT FASCISTS OPPRESSING ME
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) To your first question, no. A Bermudan and a Salvadorean may have died on 9/11, but this wasn't an attack on them. They were just collateral. This was an attack on America. And as a result, I would expect people to commemorate the day with American flags. Besides, Ms. Snowe didn't say anything about individual victims. No, but there's no doubt that's the meaning of the display. She put up 2977 American flags. There were 2977 victims in the attacks. 237 of them were not Americans. You'd probably think it odd if your death was commemorated by the flag of that other country, wouldn't you? RIP God Loves the Infantry How is he cowardly or gutless for pointing out to Ms. Snowe that her display inaccurately portrays the deaths of foreigners as deaths of Americans?
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) Marietta College in Ohio threatens to ban 9/11 commemoration unless the flags of other nations are included. Student Life director Robert Pastoor says we must consider the feelings of Chinese and Muslim students towards such displays. This is sickening. I don't care if foreigners want to come and study at our universities. I don't blame them, we have some of the greatest universities on Earth. But they don't get to come here and then complain when we practice our customs as usual and show love for our country. If they don't like that, they can go right the f*** home. Your article says there were no such complaints. A single administrator, the VP of Student Life, was asking them to add the foreign flags. There was no threat of the event being canceled at all. Sarah Snow sounds like a giant drama queen. http://www.mariettatimes.com/page/content....d.html?nav=5002

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) Complete ignorance here, what do you mean 'use' these as your Madden cover? Print and put em in your case?
