QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) PK is the slowest individual in baseball.I cant think of anyone even close to him. Bengie Molina. Molina make Paulie look like Jerry Owens.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) also goes the same way with blind hatred. I can't understand how some people react this way with every loss. Doesn't it give you ulcers or something? Christ, we could win 39 in a row, lose 1 and people would be calling for half the team to be traded and declare the season over. Ridiculous. Thank you. Read my mind. Everybody has a right to 'cheer' their own way for a team, but damn...

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Anyone know why Kent Gerst hasn't been playing? I checked the roster and it doesn't say anything about him being injured. I thought he was a top prospect I'm pretty sure he's hurt. He was pulled out of a game a couple of weeks ago for a pinch runner. And he hasn't played since. He was hitting .323 at the time.

Dexter Carter struck out 4 hitters in the first inning of the GF game. Don't see that every day.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...sp&sid=t494 FORT MILL, S.C. - July 9, 2008 - Charlotte Knights outfielder Jason Bourgeois has been selected the Topps International League Player-of-the-Month for the month of June as selected by the league's field managers. Bourgeois appeared in 30 games for the Knights in June, hitting .393 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 13 RBI's, 9 walks, 5 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .442. Currently, he is 8th in the International League in batting with a .301 average with 7 HR and 30 RBI's on the season. He was signed as a free-agent by the Chicago White Sox in December 2006. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) If I had to guess... JD is probably a guy who hates movement on the basepaths while he is trying to hit. Listening to broadcasters talk for years, it sounds like those kind of things are well known within the clubhouse. Thinking back to Frank, our basestealers used to be very careful when they went because it distracted the big man. (which Hawk used to mention all of the time in running counts) With Cabrera already on second and posessing great speed, he probably felt there was no need for him to run, especially because with a right-hander on the mound, the pitch is coming out of the pitchers hand with Cabrera moving in the backround right behind the flight of the ball, which distracted Dye and gave away the best pitch to hit in his AB. I heard Steve Stone on a WSCR interview today very emphatically say: (1) the 0-1 pitch to Dye was low and outside and he shouldn't have swung at it. It was not a hittable pitch. (2) Cabrera did nothing wrong on the play. They were basically giving him the base and so he took it... which is what he should have done. (3) Dye over-reacted (4) that it's not a big deal

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Active and in long relief. JPN, You seen Jon Link quite a few times... how ready do you think he is to get a look for the Sox bullpen if we need to bring someone up from the minors? (I figure since we've brought relievers up from AA before... that shouldn't seem out of the question.)

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) I worked in radio all throughout college and we were taught that your audience is always in flux, and that you need to be aware that they are constantly tuning in and out. Could be that you're just more aware of the flaws because of your background in radio? I love listening to them and I don't even notice the situations you're describing. In fact, I can't think of a broadcast team I've enjoyed listening to more... maybe ever.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 06:10 AM) Anyone know what's happened to Kent Gerst? He hasn't played in almost 2 weeks now. I saw that he got pulled from a game on 6/27 for a pinch runner. Leads me to believe he must have some sort of leg injury but I haven't seen any other info on it. A shame too... he was doing really well.

QUOTE (KyKyGruber @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) What about Ray King to close? Burger Boy is now slinging for the Astro's AAA team.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Didn't he start in the Cards' org? Touted as their future SS at one time, until his age was revealed to be incorrect and his numbers slipped too? Yep. He eventually was dealt to the Marlins in the trade that brought Renteria to St. Louis. I could see the Cards picking him up for infield depth and to face CC.
-
I could picture Pablo ending up in St. Louis.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) if our 40 man is at 39 after the DFA, why did we have to do it? Because we had to move somebody off the 25-man roster to reinstate Paulie.

Nice to see all the "geniuses" who picked the Tribe to win the division... and the Sox to have 70-something wins... doing an about face.

Look at Jason Bourgeois' splits... OMG is he hot. Almost insane. Batted .393 in June; .442 OBP; .590 SLG; 1.032 OPS... this is in 117 at-bats. And to start off June... 9 for 19 (.474). His season BA is now up to .302. Stunning comeback.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) http://goxavier.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/s.../061908aaa.html Thanks for posting that. I love this excerpt from the story... A week ago Lucas got the call from the White Sox with an offer to play and at 8 o'clock Friday morning he was on a plane to join the team in Bristol. The team provided him a place to stay for three days until he was able to find his own living arrangements. Lucas ended up sharing a room in a house with several other guys on the team, conveniently located close to the field. Neither he nor any of his roommates have a car so they all ride bikes to work. "If you look outside the front of the house you'll see like 18 bikes parked out there because none of us have a car," joked Lucas. "Everything happened so fast, I just went and got my bike from Goodwill." Minor league reality!!

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:42 AM) What happened to Nevin Griffith? I haven't seen him in either Bristol or Great Falls games. He's at Great Falls and started 3 games so far this year. Two pretty good... one not so good. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=518746

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Vazquez in September is probably going to be a disaster as well. Oh, and I'd take Freddy's 4.09 career ERA over Vazquez's Montreal-NL-inflated career 4.29 ERA any day of the week. Hmm... Javy had a 3.07 ERA last September... a 3.74 season ERA.. and a 3.57 ERA at the Cell And if you look at Javy's career splits, September is his best month with a 3.66 career ERA So what's the concern about his September numbers or his ERA outside of Montreal?

TCSN: Orioles Interested in Uribe; News on Danks
scenario replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Didn't Uribe lead all major league shortstops in defensive win-shares last year? I hate him as a starter, but I love him as a backup. Not sure why people would want to get rid of him as a backup. Half the season is over... we've eaten his salary anyway... we're not going to get squat for him in a trade... and he's a plus defender who can play more than 1 infield position well. So what's the point in dealing him? -
http://www.al.com/sports/mobileregister/in....xml&coll=3 Faith pitcher, USA shortstop wear same Sox Upchurch, Kateon go pro with Chicago White Sox's affiliate in Bristol, Va. Thursday, June 26, 2008 By BEN THOMAS Sports Reporter Steven Upchurch was looking for a pro baseball future all along. Bunky Kateon was just looking to move on with his life. Ironically, by next week, both will be suited up for the rookie-league Bristol (Va.) Sox, an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The two Mobile products signed contracts with the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. Upchurch, a pitcher from Faith Academy, spurned a scholarship to Auburn University to get a jump-start on his professional career. Kateon, a University of South Alabama shortstop, was getting ready to study for the law school exam after not being drafted at all.
