QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) Colina has been playing 3rd base since Josh was called up. Royce Huffman is playing there tonight. Chris has played mostly 2nd and some SS and left field. He doesn't seem to have the arm for SS or 3rd base. I wouldn't be in any hurry to trade Josh with Crede's back. Joe was scratched last night when he felt something during warm-ups and he's not in the line-up tonight either. Getz had 3 starts at 3B in the last week. He's started over 20 games at SS this year. His arm is strong enough. That said, I don't think they look at Getz as a long-term option at 3B. But he is a reasonable insurance policy in case Uribe or Fields gets injured.

Great pitching performances for Poreda, Ely, Maxwell, and Infante today. Nice to see 4 starters in the organization do so well on the same day.

8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10
scenario replied to GoodAsGould's topic in 2008 Season in Review
In his first start, he was too amped up... ended up overthrowing and ran up his pitch count early. In his last start, he struggled with command of his slider which made him overdependent on the fastball and resulted in him being too predictable... which is why people caught up with him after seeing him a couple of times. He needs command of both the slider and the fastball to be effective. If he has it, he could have a nice outing. If not, expect him out by the 5th. -
I'm thinking we win the World Series this year and then Griffey chooses to retire... going out on top. Problem solved.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) True...but he was out of options and who would have thought some other team would be interested in him? Very true. Remember back to spring training when everyone wanted Wasserman to come north with the team, even if it meant releasing Masset. And how ticked off people were that it seemed Massett was only on the roster because of the options situation. Who would've thunk back then, that he would be part of a trade bringing Ken Griffey to the southside? I think people would've been happy to get Griffey's baseball card for Masset back then.

QUOTE (TheOcho @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) He could just go with the number 1. He is the 'one'. (Cue Matrix music.)

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) I'd rather see Griffey to go right, Swisher stay in center, and Dye play first. I've heard many posters talk about Dye playing first in the future, maybe this is the time now. That's an interesting overture, William Tell.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) Masset did start off the year throwing well. But he has done little lately. If the sox can't trust him [which it seems to be the case--he's barely throwing even in blowouts], and he continues to slide, they'll have to release him. If Texas wants him, good luck. What I'm talking about is options in the minors for Masset's spot. Haeger, Egbert, Ohka and Broadway have all thrown in relief this year in AAA. While Broadway may not be ideal, he or another SP in AAA would likely be a better option than sticking w/ Masset. You pack Masset's bags. I'll drive him to the airport. Then the Sox should promote Derek Rodriguez from Charlotte. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=457561

Louisville beats Charlotte 9-0 Bad outing for Broadway... again. Booo. Owens, Getz, and Cortez all went 2-4. Birmingham at West Tennessee. Cassell pitching. Barons lost 6-4 in the bottom of the 9th... After coming back to tie it in the top of the 9th. Brandon Allen with 2 hits including a homerun. Winston-Salem wins 5-3. Cleveland Santeliz with an excellent start 7 innings; 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits; 7 K's; 3 walks Greg Paiml with a homerun. He's on a nice roll... hitting .353 in his last 10 games. Mollenhauer, Orlando, and Hernandez with 2 hits apiece. Kannapolis at Delmarva Socolovich pitching. Another nice start for him. Very impressive lately. Kanny lost 5-4 despite out hitting Delmarva 13-8. Marerro went 3-3. Morel 2-4. Fleisher 3-5. Gallagher 2-5 including a homerun. Helena at Great Falls Billeaud pitching Going into extra innings tied 10-10. GF ended up losing 15-10 in 10 innings. The backend of the bullpen gave up 13 runs in 3 innings. Burlington at Bristol - doubleheader Postponed by rain

Richard's slider is his lead pitch and usually very effective.

I find the fact that Richard was BOTH Mr. Football and Mr. Baseball in the state of Indiana his senior year of high-school pretty impressive. Don't hear too many players pulling that off.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I hate to break it to people, but the Sox aren't likely going anywhere this season unless PK can get back on track. Anderson and Wise have shown some flashes this season, but a team with those guys in CF and Swisher at 1B will not hold off the Twins and Tigers. Exactly. Well said. It's easy to tell when Konerko is starting to come around. It's the same pattern every year: (1) He starts to walk as much or more than he strikes out (he's seeing the ball better) (2) He goes deeper into counts in at-bats (takes borderline pitches rather than swing at them; or is fouling off pitches rather than missing them.) (3) He starts hitting the ball very hard (rather than hitting weak grounders or pop-ups) If we see signs of those things coming around, we have to play him. The upside potential of him getting into a groove for August/September is worth the risk. If he continues to do the opposite of those 3 things (which has been been the case most of the year)... then bench him. But him tagging the ball last night in a couple at-bats is a good sign.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) There is no issue with age here because they can not lie about their real age. Could you comment a little more on this issue? I'd like to hear your perspective on it. Seems like the age-issue has developed its own mythology with many fans and it would be nice to know what is 'real'.

Nobody commenting on the fact that Konerko hit the ball pretty hard last night in a couple of at-bats, eh?

QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) Stop posting videos of ______________ from 20__ or ___. It is now 20__ and he sucks, we will all move on. Live on nostalgia for now, but when you turn the game on and theres a guy on base with ___________ up its no longer an rbi oppurtunity its a GIDP oppurtunity. A good generic rant "Insert former star player's name" Last year it was Dye. Earlier this season it was Thome. Now it's Konerko.

Why the Javy bashing? He was great in April... He was great in May... He had a crap June... He's had two excellent starts in his 4 outings in July. (7/3; 7/21) So, he has a bad game today against one of the best offensive teams in the AL and the jackals come out to tear up his carcass? Give it a rest.

Charlotte loses 5-0 Despite a decent start for Egbert Sauerbeck sucked in relief Getz with 2 hits playing 3rd base.... interesting Birmingham loses 6-2 Despite a decent start for Dewon Day Miguel Negron with 2 hits sending his average back up to .285 Ryan O'Malley plays the role of punching bag once again in relief. Winston-Salem loses 8-5. (man this is getting depressing. didn't anybody win today?) Jacob Rasner had a poor start and took the loss. Shelby with 2 hits. Kanny rained out again. Bristol won 11-4 Alright!!!! Excellent 4 inning relief job by Stephen Upchurch... to pick up his first pro win!!! 4 1/3 innings; 0 runs on 2 hits; 7 K's; 0 BBs. Lots of heroes on the offense... 4 different players with 2 RBIs each. Great Falls wins 8-4 A very nice start for Dexter Carter... 5 innings; 0 runs on 4 hits; 3 K's; 2 BB's 4 hits apiece for SS Tyler Kuhn and 2B Jesus Avila Pretty nice when your middle infield goes 8 for 10 in a game.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) No offense, but the White Sox have a better chance of signing me than trading for Ramirez. If you're a left-handed reliever, you might want to give Kenny a call.

The RedSox and Manny doing their annual "I hate you" dance... Yawn They'll be kissing and making up soon...

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) I see us going 6-5 or 7-4 in the remaining games vs the red sox and yankees, that's my prediction i see us playing a little more closely against the angels, winning 1 or 2 of those games, and the same for the oakland series I think you should change your name to joestradamus.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 02:21 AM) Somebody's jealous that Alexei isn't on their team. Nah. He's just a poor blogger who's figured out that writing inane controversial articles draws more people to his site. Maybe he's auditioning for a job at the Sun Times.

Over his career, we've had our way with Miner. Hopefully we can heap further abuse on him. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7783/s...p;type=Pitching

I could be wrong, but I thought I the stat (Hawk mentioned it on the broadcast tonight) was that the Sox were 21-2 against the Tigers when a Sox player (anyone) hit a homerun.
