  1. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Things don't seem as bad as they once were. You are correct. It only takes a couple of good drafts to turn around a system. It takes longer to turn around a reputation though.
  2. Should note that he just turned 23 this month. And there are 5 other 22 year olds on the all star team.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) So this means Courtney Hawkins will most likely suck. Lol. Could be. Or it could mean he turns out much better than Ray Durham.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Law said Courtney Hawkins is likely to be no better than a 4th OF, if he makes the majors, and the Sox and Kenny have yet again failed to prove they know what to do with 1st RD picks. A few Law gems... Flashback to right after the 2010 draft.... Keith, what are your thoughts on Chris Sale? Klaw (1:25 PM) I ranked him 47th. The White Sox took him 13th. You do the math. In his 'scouting report', Law rated Sale's slider as a '40' on his MLB Draft Grading Scale, with a projected future rating of '45'. A 40 on that scale translates to "Well below-average ability". A 45 is still below average and translates to "11th/12th men on a pitching staff". From a later discussion... Do you like Chris Sale's move to the rotation and where do you see him as a future starter? Klaw (1:35 PM) No, I don't.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) I think the difference with De Aza is that he was already a refined player - he won the Marlins starting gig a few seasons earlier. The reason he was available was due to his terrible injury and durability concerns. Also, if Ozzie didn't have such a hard on for Wise there's a good chance he would have been up here sooner. De Aza is all Marlins, not us. De Aza had A total of 164 at-bats with the Marlins. In 2007, he had 144 at-bats, hit .229 with a .574 OPS. In 2009, he had 20 at-bats, had 5 hits... 4 singles and a double. In those two partial seasons combined he had 9 doubles, 2 triples, and no home runs. The Marlins waived him to open up a spot on their 40-man roster. He had approx. 1000 at-bats in the Marlins minor league system. He had approx. 800 in ours. So is De Aza "all Marlins"? I don't think so.
  6. Alex Gordon was at a similar point at the end of 2010... age wise... production wise. People on fanboards dancing around him with forks. Seeing who could inflict the most damage.
  7. Sanchez is 4th in all of minor league baseball in hits this year with 159. He's averaging 1.3 hits per game.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) Thinking ahead a step, this would put another IF on the Knights roster for their playoff run if the Sox wanted to recall either Morel or Lopez on Sept 1. Good point
  9. Not shocked here. He was eating up AA pitching. Might as well see what he looks like for a couple of weeks against AAA. Hard to project him at this point. Consider that he turned 20 on June 29th... and that he began last year in Bristol. Hell... two years ago he was playing in the Dominican League. I'm guessing KW saw something about Sanchez he liked in his recent scouting road trip.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) Danks pulled after 2 PA Gotta catch a flight.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) I don't see the logic in comparing Thompson to Hawkins. Hawkins is brand new, just out of high school. Thompson has over 1300 professional AB's in 4+ seasons, and he'll probably get several hundred more. I hope the Sox don't expect Hawkins to get another 1200 AB's before they can make a decision on him. Trayce 2009 - 106 at-bats in a half season of rookie ball (32 games) 2010 - 235 at-bats in 58 A-league games before getting hurt 2011 - full season In A-ball (519 at-bats) 2012 - will be a full season between high A and AA (500+ at-bats) So... Two full seasons for development. (A full season is 500+ at bats). In those two seasons, he's come a long way. Especially this year. Seems like mid-season a light switch flicked on. With the power numbers he's putting up... at 21 years old... definitely strong potential. Also want to point out... Mike Trout had over 1,100 at-bats in the minors. It's not unusual for top talent to have 1500 or more minor league at-bats before they reach MLB.
  12. In the 22 years since 1990, the Sox have only finished lower than 2nd place 7 times. Pretty amazing. Pretty sure the only team with fewer is the Yankees.
  13. 13 of the last 15 games we've played have been decided by two runs or less. That's a pretty long stretch of nail biters.
  14. Imagine how many pages if it had been Brian Anderson.
  15. I don't mind Danks getting regular at-bats for a couple of weeks and then rejoining the team.
  16. Saw Jordan Danks in the AFL a few years back. Was surprised how big he is. Built like an NBA player.
  17. How's the weather for the game? We just finished two solid hours of rain in Rockford.
  18. Humber's biggest problem has been consistency. I think going to the pen will be good for him.
  19. I heard it. Humber to the pen. No plans to return to a 6-man.
  20. Cleveland was 3.5 games out on July 26th... They are 9.5 games out as of today (August 5th).
  21. Eric Grabe continues to impress in rookie ball. Last 10 games... 13 for 32 with 6 extra base hits. Currently leading all Sox minor league players in BA, OBP, and SLG.
  22. QUOTE (floridafan @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) Just a moment in time but... Eric Grabe is Leading all Minor Leage Players for the White Sox in BA and Slugging. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mlb/minorl...ex.jsp?c_id=cws And OBP
  23. It's going to really piss off Red Sox fans if they can't afford to resign Elsbury because of what Crawford is getting paid.
  24. I wonder if anybody will put a claim on Carl Crawford?
