  1. Link The competition for the final spot in the bullpen could be sorted out somewhat Tuesday, as the first round of cuts are expected.
  2. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Exactly. So I hope Viciedo is made to understand this and it doesn't become a big issue. I don't think it's a big issue. He's young and comes across as very coachable. I think they're just helping him understand he hasn't earned the slack some of the veterans might get.
  3. Nice to see us manufacturing runs so far, instead of being so dependent on the long ball. Oh... wait...
  4. Melton. LOL. "Pierzynski hit well over .300 last year." Ummm.... Bill... AJ hit exactly .300 last year. But, hey, Melton never seems to let the facts get in the way of an interesting conversation.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Chisox.com http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/media/vide...96&c_id=cws
  6. Floyd looking pretty good. Nice fluid motion. Fastball looks live. Nice movement on the curve for early March. 2K's and picks off Figgins after a walk.
  7. GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The White Sox have switched their B game with the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Camelback Ranch stadium Monday morning because the recent rains caused their practice fields to be deemed unplayable. The B game will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. so workers can prepare the grounds for the Sox's regularly scheduled 1 p.m. game with Seattle. The B game probably won't be open to the public, although there was no official announcement.
  8. 3 umpire supervisors fired over blown 2009 playoff calls. Major League Baseball, angry over the abundance of blown umpiring calls in the 2009 postseason, has fired three of its seven ump supervisors. Marty Springstead, Rich Garcia and Jim McKean, each involved in umpiring for 40 or more years, were fired on Jan. 12. They received the news by telephone. "I was totally shocked," said Springstead, who began his umpiring career in 1960. "Fifty years, and I get a four-minute phone call to say good-bye? They didn't give us a lot of reasons." Randy Marsh and Charlie Reliford, two umpires who retired after last season, have been hired as replacements. Ed Montague, who retired after 34 years, also is in negotiations about a supervisor's job. "I'm sad about it, I'm going to miss it," said Garcia, who umpired in 12 postseasons during his 25-year big-league career. "It's certainly not what I wanted to happen. I can walk away proud of the work I've done." MLB did not cite a specific reason for the firings. Rob Manfred, MLB executive vice president, said, "The change in supervisors is part of our ongoing effort to make our organization as strong as possible." Yet, Springstead said it was directly related to the errant calls in last year's postseason. Crew chief Tim McClelland, along with veteran umpires Phil Cuzzi and C.B. Bucknor, each blew key calls during the American League division and championship series. They retained their jobs. Umpire supervisors serve as liaisons between the umpires and MLB, recommending umpires for postseason, but not making final selections.
  9. Quentin homers twice as Sox wallop Cubs 15-3 MESA, Ariz. --- Carlos Quentin reminded everybody back in Chicago just how dangerous he can be when he's pain-free. Quentin homered on his first two at-bats and drove in five runs Saturday, leading a White Sox split squad to a 15-3 victory over the Cubs in the first of five spring exhibitions between the intracity rivals. Words to my ears... all of it.
  10. The decision to send Hudson to Triple-A Charlotte as a starting pitcher or keep him as a reliever "is something that goes through our minds every meeting we have," manager Ozzie Guillen said.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Hey you guys with MLBTV... is the pic this bad?? No. The regular service has good quality. This is just a free low-res stream.
  12. Lillibridge almost blows a simple throw from 2B... Good thing he can hit.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) You BETTER not cause another Tie... dammit. Fixed. Statements like that just sound better with dammit at the end.
  14. Santos struck out the side in his one inning of the first s.t. game... giving up one hit in the process. Nice first outing.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Is there ANY chance Jordan Danks is ready this year? EDIT: Nevermind, sub .700 OPS in AA last year. Hard to look at the averages as an indicator of his development though. He was tearing up the league until he got hurt. Then he went into the tank. But when healthy again in the fall, he tore up the AFL. So, who knows? But... I think it's likely that the Sox will take the safe route with him and give him at least one more full year in the minors.
  16. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Is it on mlb.tv? Yep. 4:05pm central.
  17. Per Scott Merkin... Juan Pierre leads off in left field, followed by Gordon Beckham (2B), Pierzynski © and Andruw Jones in center field against the right-handed Pineiro, with Alex Rios temporarily out of action due to a sore throwing shoulder. Mark Teahen (3B), Alexei Ramirez (SS), Mark Kotsay (DH), Viciedo (1B) and Jordan Danks (RF) round out the lineup. Edit: Shoot... by the time I found this and posted it, looks like I got beat to the punch.
  18. Per Cowley... Hudson looked all-man team. Two IP, 4Ks, no hits. Plus, he fanned "Snoopy Dog" as Oz called him.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) I am being texted by a friend in Chicago that the Score is reporting the Sox are in "serious talks" with the Padres about a Beckham for AGon swap. You guys hearing this? Keep in mind that the Score is just as much in the business of making news as it is reporting it.
  20. Per Merkin... On Thursday, John Danks, Lucas Harrell, Randy Williams, Sergio Santos, Erick Threets, Ryan Braun, Brian Omogrosso are scheduled to pitch for the White Sox against the Angels in the first game of Spring Training, which can be seen on MLB.TV. On Friday, the White Sox will send Mark Buehrle, Jeff Marquez, Scott Linebrink, J.J. Putz, Santo Luis and Freddy Dolsi to the mound against the Dodgers in an exclusive whitesox.com Web cast.
  21. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Well, maybe he'll play his way onto a team someday The Charlotte Knights
  22. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Everyone says Coop fixed them, or Coop can fix them. All I asked is what did he do to fix them? I'll drop it though. In Coop's own words, his job is "1/3 mechanics, 1/3 psychologist, 1/3 priest". In other words, he fixes flaws in player's deliveries, he helps get their minds right on the mound, and he helps them exorcise their past demons... All of which help them be more successful... assuming they have the talent to do so in the first place.
  23. From the Suntimes... Daniel Cabrera will get his first serious look this afternoon, when the Sox play the Los Angeles Dodgers in a ''B'' Game. It also will let them know if pitching coach Don Cooper has been able to get through to the once-promising right-hander. ''Cabrera is not a pitcher; Cabrera is a thrower,'' Guillen said. ''We're going to use him out of the bullpen and give him a very, very good opportunity to make this ballclub. Hopefully he knows that, and hopefully he comes out and does what he can do. The biggest thing for him is throwing strikes. It's a big difference between being a starter and a reliever, and for him, being a reliever gives him a better shot to make the ballclub.'' Cabrera is scheduled to throw two innings.
  24. Mitchell, Viciedo, Jordan Danks to start in Tuesday's B-game The White Sox's lineup for Tuesday's B game against the Los Angeles Dodgers has yet to be posted, but it's certain that many of their top prospects will be in the starting lineup. Jared Mitchell, the Sox's first pick in the 2009 draft, will lead off. Mitchell has been mentored this spring by Juan Pierre. Dayan Viciedo will start at first base after playing last season at third at Double-A Birmingham. First base is Viciedo's projected position in the majors. Jordan Danks, who looks taller than his listed 6-foot-4 height, also will start in the outfield. Here is the Sox's lineup: Mitchell lf Danks cf Flowers c Viciedo 1b Kroeger dh Nix 2b Lillibridge ss Morel 3b De Aza rf Floyd p
