I think what probably happened was the Sox made their best offer, Boras went to the Tigers and got an offer, called the Sox and tried to leverage it into a higher counter-offer. Boom... The Sox being sick of Boras' s*** said "Sorry, we don't play that way. goodbye." Over.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) I just spit up my water at work... I'd like to hear Ron Santo try to pronounce Dombrowski 10 times... and see how many different names he comes up with.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) So have they given up on Hafner? He's making a boatload of money too. Hafner's only at $11.5M per year. Pffffft... that's nothing. That's Carlos Silva money. Yep. I'm sure the small market Indians are glad they made that investment.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Rosenthal couldn't have sounded more out of touch in that interview. He and his colleagues have been completely shut out of all pipelines. M&H just continued to ask away and the guy literally had no new information. It had to be embarrassing for the guy. I wouldn't be surprised if Rosenthal had some inside info the other day... said something that had been told to him in confidence... got called on it... and is now laying low. I have nothing to back that up, but I could easily picture it. His sources are generally very good. And you just don't see him reverse track like he did the other day and then clam up.

Is it my imagination... or have the Nationals gone way out of their way to sign every piece of garbage nobody else seems to want?

I'll make this simple. Any more non-baseball posts will get deleted. So let's move on.

I'm starting to get the feeling that something like this is what has transpired... Boras talked up a potential (not real) Tiger offer then called KW and asked him how interested he really was. A combination of interest and not wanting to have him go to a central division rival spurred conversation. The two sides got together... showing enough mutual interest to get JR involved. A reasonable but not overwhelming 1-year offer was made as a result. Boras and Damon said they had to finish their conversations with Dombrowski and would let KW know by this weekend. Dombrowski and the Tigers made a formal (1-year) offer last night. Damon will be making up his mind in the next day. If this is the case, our odds are pretty good.

Tigers Offer Contract to Ex-Yankee Damon Published: Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:50 p.m. Last Modified: Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:50 p.m. LAKELAND | Dave Dombrowski, president and general manager of the Detroit Tigers, confirmed Thursday that the club has offered a contract to free agent outfielder Johnny Damon. Negotiations between Dombrowski and Damon's agent, Scott Boras, have been reported over the past several weeks but there has never been an official confirmation by the Tigers, who, under Dombrowski, typically do not disclose anything about personnel matters until they are concluded. "I can confirm that we have talked (Dombrowski and Boras) and that we have offered him (Damon) a contract," Dombrowski said. Dombrowski would not say how much money or how many years were involved, but published reports have indicated Boras was initially seeking a two-year, $20 million deal. No team has offered anything even approaching that. The Tigers offer has been variously reported at two years for $14 million and one year for $7 million. Dombrowski would not confirm either number. "I would be very surprised if it's for more than one year," one source said. Tigers Manager Jim Leyland, as is his custom, would not comment on the Tigers' offer.

Dye says "crowded outfield" prolonged his slump

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) .261, 31 hr's 85 RBI's, right? Pretty damn nice, but James does tend to overproject. Yep. But if James does overproject, then I'm even more depressed about our current DH situation. Because his projections for Kotsay and Jones aren't too pretty. -

Anybody seen what Bill James projects for Dye in 2010? -
QUOTE (ozzfest @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Gregor takes this to mean that Williams already knows that Damon has agreed to sign with the Tigers. It's just speculation at the moment, so stay tuned. Feb. 18 - 11:54 am et Source: Daily Herald Why would this mean that Damon has decided to sign with the Tigers?

Two simple pieces of advice I would offer: 1. Learn more about it. A book like "Driven to Distraction" which was written by two psychologists who both have ADHD is a good start. Great input on things families should know, etc. 2. Get a referral to a psychologist (or psychiatrist) with experience in treating ADHD (not all do) and who has an excellent reputation in working with kids.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) The issue we're having is...a lot of people are holding it against him that he wasn't immediately as advanced as some people had assumed, and ignoring what he actually is. Exactly. Well said.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Viciedo has far to go before he can be considered a legitimate prospect. He did improve somewhat in the second half last year so I am not writing him off, but at the same time would recommend caution in evaluating him. So... a 20 year old player who projects as a power hitter... who just completed a full year in AA (and was the youngest player in the league)... has 'far to go' to be considered a legit prospect, eh? Take away his first month (ever) in minor league ball... where he hit .221 with 20Ks and 2BBs... and his season looks fairly impressive actually.

Kyle Farnsworth is auditioning for a spot in the Royals' rotation. Nuff said.

I'm beginning to believe the Tigers 2-year offer is nothing more than a rumor started by Boras' people to try and create competition (and improve the offers) for Damon. I wouldn't be surprised if KW thinks the same thing.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 9, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) The low temperature on Feb 8 isn't relevant. Minneapolis does have colder winters, but games aren't played then. Here are the average low temps city apr may june july aug sep oct Min 36 48 58 63 61 51 39 Cle 38 48 58 62 61 54 44 Mil 37 47 57 63 63 54 43 Chi 40 51 61 66 65 57 45 Add in Minnesota will only play 3 home night games in April and won't start their home schedule until April 12, the chances are they won't even have the lowest gametime average temperatures in their division. And you said you didn't want to argue. Working pretty damn hard to prove me wrong for a guy who isn't arguing.

QUOTE (soxman352000 @ Feb 9, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) I'm hoping it is. I'm just really confused right now about what she's thinking. News Flash... it doesn't get easier. 20 years of marriage and the only thing I truly understand about how my wife thinks is that if something goes wrong: a. It's my fault b. She told me it would happen c. I wouldn't have these problems if I listened to her.

Back when I was single I asked a married guy I respected how you knew when you found the girl you were going to marry. He looked at me like I was a complete idiot and said... "Here's how it's going to happen. Someday a girl is going to come along, grab ahold of your a**, and not let go. You won't be able to shake her. That's how you'll know." Which is pretty much exactly what happened to most of the guys I know. LOL.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 9, 2010 -> 07:30 AM) I'm not arguing. Just stating facts. You are arguing, telling me the facts are lies because you say so. Go to weather.com and get the average temperatures in April. Of the 3, Chicago is the warmest on average by 2 degrees over Minneapolis, and Minneapolis is warmer by 2 degrees over Milwaukee. That's because they're comparing average high (daytime) temperatures... not average low (nighttime) temperatures. The low is consistently lower in Minneapolis. And when they play night games outside, that's what they're going to be dealing with. For example... this week the high temperature in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis is projected to be pretty similar... all in the mid-20's. The lows? Much different. The low in Milwaukee tonight... 18. The low in Chicago tonight... 20 The low in Minneapolis tonight... 3. So... no, the facts are not lies. But this is a great example of how facts (like using data on average temperatures) can be misleading.

Bruce Willis' character in Pulp Fiction. Or just about half the cast of Pulp Fiction for that matter.
