  1. Looks like it's becoming a 2-man race between Santos and Aquino. Hudson could be the 3rd man in the race, but the Sox will likely keep him stretched out as a starter in Charlotte.
  2. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 08:29 AM) I'm trying to figure that one out. We'll see. He may have been targeted for W-S before spring training, but minor league rosters aren't set yet.
  3. Leesman won't make 2010 team, but isn't far away... 03/15/10 11:27 PM EST GLENDALE, Ariz. -- When the entire White Sox roster gets introduced at U.S. Cellular Field prior to the 2010 season's first pitch on April 5, it's an extremely safe bet Brent Morel and Charles Leesman won't hear their names announced. Actually, the first big league Spring Training for both of these players quite possibly could come to an end when the next round of roster moves are announced on Tuesday or Wednesday. Morel, a talented third baseman, probably will be headed to Double-A Birmingham, while the left-handed-throwing Leesman will be part of the starting rotation with the Barons at Class A Winston-Salem. Neither non-roster invite was given much of a chance to break camp with the team upon arrival in Arizona, but the duo has needed only three weeks to prove their Major League arrival might not be too far away. "I thought he was a lot further away," said White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper of Leesman. "He's a guy we believe is going to pitch in the big leagues." A funny thing happened to Leesman, 23, during his time at this fall's Instructional League. His velocity jumped up from 94 mph to 96 mph. "As of late, I started throwing harder," Leesman said. "I look at myself as a power lefty pitcher with a good breaking ball. I'm working on my change, and now I have a cutter." Leesman has been "fiddling with the grip" of the cutter and has started to use it in games. Adding that pitch to his repertoire should help the 11th-round pick from the 2008 Draft build on last year's success. Over 27 games started for Kannapolis, Leesman posted a 13-5 record with a 3.08 ERA. He led the South Atlantic League in wins with his 157 2/3 innings pitched, while producing a 9-1 record with a 2.91 ERA over his final 15 starts. He then received his Spring Training indoctrination by pitching two scoreless innings at HoHoKam Park to finish off a 15-3 shellacking of the Cubs on March 6. "A little nerve-wracking at first," said a smiling Leesman of the Cubs appearance. "This has been a big learning experience. Obviously, I'm trying to make a name for myself, letting them know what I can do, and doing the best I can to speed up the whole process."
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) Is it pronounced Moral? So... will the first game he drives in the winning run be a Morel victory?
  5. Sox sleeper Retherford waking people up (Trib article by Mark Gonzalez) When the White Sox break camp for the regular season, it was expected Jayson Nix or Brent Lillibridge would make the roster. Not both. And now maybe neither, after manager Ozzie Guillen said he is "very, very disappointed" in both of them. Enter C.J. Retherford, a 24-year-old who has never played above Double A and has never been considered a top prospect. "I love that kid a lot," Guillen said. "So far (everything) we ask him to do in spring training he does — move the guy over, get big hits. He's a sleeper, but he has started waking people up. "The report I had was everything he does is ugly, but he gets it done. As long as you get it done, you have a chance to play in the big leagues. I like those types of players that go out and do the little things and let the big boys do the rest.'' Retherford basically is a second baseman, and the last infielder will have to be versatile enough to also play shortstop and third. "You can put this kid anywhere, I think he will play (well)," Guillen said.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) I hate when my Cubs friend brags about a ST win. Tell him... "This is a nice moment for you. So I'm going to let you have it."
  7. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Ok Lillibridge, let's do this. He did it alright... just like he always does. A classic Lilliputian at-bat.
  8. Melton is soooooo incredibly brutal at pronouncing players names. LOL.
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) How did we score the second run? Homerun by Castro.
  10. Nice bare-handed play by Retherford.
  11. YESSSSSSS!!!!!! Bring on the Hoyas!! MU wins 80-76!
  12. Down to 2 points with 3:40 left... ughhh... here we go again. 13 of Marquette's game this year have been decided by 3 points or less. Been a nerve wracking year to be a Golden Warrior Eagle fan.
  13. Nail-biting time in the Marquette-Nova game. 5 minutes left. MU up 65-57. Darius Johnson-Odom on fire.
  14. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) Has Retherford been around all spring I forgot all about him. Yep. He's getting a little playing time late in games.
  15. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Look at Scenario back in the college basketball threads :-). I remember our Gerald Henderson vs. Jon Scheyer arguments years ago. That's right. IIRC, you swore that Scheyer would never get a chance to play at Duke, because he would be buried on the bench behind Martynas Pocius. :0
  16. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) True, how is that game going by the way. My G'town upset over the 'cuse came through. Tied early in the second half. These two teams always seem to have nail-biter games. I think the last 3 games they've played against each other (combined) have been decided by a total of 5 points.
  17. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Villanova over West Virginia for the crown They've got to beat Marquette first.
  18. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) speaking of danks...csn had a story on the danks brothers yesterday. http://www.csnchicago.com/pages/player?is_...p=1&dord=mr Thanks. That was a nice little clip. Great to hear the interplay between the brothers. Interesting hearing John talk about that high school championship game. You can see glimpses into the intense competitor behind his laid back personality.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) I am not going to celebrate. However, that's likely the difference between a 92 win Twins team and what, an 87-86 win Twins team? I'm not sure a team with 4 #3 starters would win 92 games. I had them pegged for 87-88 wins with Nathan... and think they're probably an 83-84 win team without him.
  20. Hudson throwing well, but Guillen wants him to begin season as starter in Triple A. Sox manager wants him ready to step in if hole develops in rotation
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) This year, the Sox are only 6-1 for the WS. That was the 6th highest of any team in baseball. I was floored. Apparently, the bookies are more optimistic than the fans here are. If the grim reaper was a Sox fan he'd be more optimistic than some of our fans are.
  22. I could also see them trading a few prospects to the Indians for Kerry Wood (if Cleveland agrees to eat some salary).
  23. I don't mind being wrong. And in this case, I actually prefer it. I think it was the language about voiding the 2012 season and the club option that threw me. Sounds like free agent language.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 09:22 AM) Someone found it a while back. We control him through his arb years still. I'm positive about it. The fact that he was signed to a major league contract is irrelevant. Per Cots... He has a clause in his contract that states "if Viciedo has enough service time to qualify for arbitration after 2011, he may void the 2012 season. If voided, the club may exercise an option at $3.5M." Again... not sure but... doesn't sound like 6 years of control to me.
  25. I could be wrong but, I don't think we control him for 6-years like a typical minor leaguer. We signed him to a major league contract.
