QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Not to be a stickler, but it's his left foot he seems to be holding in the air....if it was his right foot, I am not sure how he would be standing... :0 LOL. Yeah, I meant left foot not right. Sorry... I'm left handed so I think backwards.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) However, just by looking at him swing the bat - I'm always left feeling sick to my stomach. His stance and swing is nothing near smooth, fluid, and compact. He seems to have a ton of movement in the foundation of his body while the pitch is coming in... This is my impression too. He seems like he is almost holding his right foot in the air while standing in the box... just barely putting pressure on it. I understand the need for a timing mechanism, but it seems to make his base off-balance. Add on top of it that he's pulling his head off the ball when he swings. The combo makes him look pretty awkward up there.

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) we arent. even if we were, Nix is better against lefties. Thanks. If I had read the lineup it might have saved me some time, eh? LOL.
-
And when you look at these split stats for Getz, what do they suggest? Seems to me the best time to play him is: - Against lefties - At home - During the day So... why are we resting him? (BTW, Nix's splits suggest he hits better... on the road... and at-night.)

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Would have loved Getz in the two spot but with a lefty starting I understand. I just hate a guy like Nix that strikes out as much as he does in the 2 spot. Just looked at the comparison between Getz and Beckham season stats. They're pretty close in at-bats right now. Thought it was interesting.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 05:56 AM) I saw him pitch. I wrote something in my blog. Less than 50 % of his pitches this year were fastballs and that is not good for Jose! I wonder why Cooper did not address this issue with Jose. I remember once he came to CHiSox Cooper worked with him on this. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/ Cooper and the Sox have addressed this with him repeatedly. But it didn't seem to make a difference, because when Jose got on the mound he simply did what he wanted. And for some reason, he just loves dropping down into his multiple sidearm slots... consequences be damned.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) RBI's in those months: 6 and 9. 15 RBI's with 5 HR. Dont tell me how you hit, tell me when you hit. I'd like SOMEONE to point out where I said the guy doesnt hit. I said the guy doesnt knock in runs. Over his career, his BA and BA-RISP are practically identical. The fact that he's currently hitting above his career batting average, yet below his career BA-RISP average probably suggests that both numbers will trend back to their norms. So, when he comes up with people on base, an optimist might say he's due. Because the law of averages suggests he'll catch up.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) AJP in the 3-hole is literally one of the worst moves I've ever seen Ozzie make. The guy does not drive in runs. He has 39 freakin RBI's with 13 HR. That is awful production. He may be one of our worst hitter with RISP, I know he hits about .239 with RISP at below a 700 OPS. Come on... AJ is one of the only guys on the team who is HITTING the ball. Look at his splits the last two months: - July: .356/.364/.506/.869 - August: .330/.374/.473/.846 And since no one else in the lineup is hitting squat, it makes perfect sense to have him third right now.

Don't know if this was already said but the LA Times reports the Sox picked up $1.4M of Thome's remaining $2.4M salary. At least we saved SOME money. The DBacks paid ALL of Garlands remaining 2009 salary.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Real info. http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-now-hu...,0,424466.story Great find. Thanks!

Is there any real info suggesting Hudson is coming up? Or is this all just speculation because he was pulled after 3 innings today?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) I think I read 4 of our 6 minor league teams are in the playoffs. Yep.

Thome, $ to LAD for Fuller-Jose to COL for $, Hynick

QUOTE (JackTalkThai @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) 27 of the Tigers 40 man roster are under the age of 30. The point is that most playoff contenders' starting lineups are mostly made up of players over 30. And that teams made up of all players under 30 have a name... they're called expansion teams. Yet the myth persists among some fans that younger means better. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) If Thome comes back here next season, Dye and Konerko better be gone. It's time to turn over the roster as much as possible, when it comes to the over-30 crowd. How many rosters full of players under 30 are currently competing for the playoffs? -

IMO the Thome trade wasn't for us... it was for him. Nobody trades a productive player + cash for a 26 year old A-ball scrub because it's good for the ballclub. It was a class move by Kenny to give a future Hall-of-Famer at the end of his career a chance at a ring. Period. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:47 AM) Except that the reports are indicating that the Sox are getting cash from the Rockies. When the smoke clears and we get the full stories, I'm betting the Sox sent money in both deals. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:41 AM) So this Hynick guy is pretty decent? How the f*** did we get anyone for Count? By paying most of Contreras' remaining salary. -

"White Sox scribes have been told to sit tight here in Dome pressbox. Sounds like Jim Thome is on the move." #stribtwins (Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune - 5 minutes ago) -
I'd call up any reliever who can get the ball over the plate without it ending up in the seats.

The Good News Great Falls is in due to winning the first half in the Pioneer League. Kanny looks like a shoe-in for their second half. They are currently 6 games in front of the closest team behind them. Do you realize they have a .690 winning percentage for the entire year? And that they are 10-0 in their last 10 games?? Winston-Salem is in. They won their first half and are currently leading in the second half too. Birmingham is in due to their first half. The Bad News Charlotte.... nyet. Bristol... ditto. Overall? 4 out of 6 minor league teams in the playoffs Not shabby

Looks like the Twins are making moves to shore up their pen for the September stretch. They acquired both Ron Mahay (from the Royals) and Jon Rauch (from the DBacks) today.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) Eduardo Escobar bumped up to 2nd in the order and he's responding; 2-2 currently with 2 stolen bases and 2 RBI's. He's been on fire during August... especially the last couple of weeks. Quite a turnaround from earlier in this year which was pure suckage.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Their plans for retherford are unclear to me I think they want to see how he'll play against consistently better pitching. That will help them evaluate how serious of a prospect he is.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) So this means Viciedo won't be in Chicago in September... interesting. Not necessarily... The AFL starts in mid-October. That shouldn't preclude him from being in Chicago in September.
-
Regarding the selections... Keep in mind the purpose of the AFL... It's not necessarily true that teams send their best prospects there. Sometimes they send guys who they are trying to make decisions about... And sometimes the AFL is used as a showcase for guys teams are looking to move.
