  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Also, if I have to hear one more article about them "playing baseball the right way" I’m going to do something drastic Count me in.
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) i don't He did a nice job in two games that last week against us. But we had man-handled him before that.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) blackburn man-handles us. He was 2-3 with a 4.86 ERA against the Sox in 2008. 15 K's vs. 12 BB's in 33 innings; a 1.59 WHIP. And we had a .308 batting average against him.
  4. Paul Konerko 1b 5 years/$60M (2006-10) * 5 years/$60M (2006-10) o re-signed by White Sox as a free agent 11/05 o 06-10: $12M annually o limited no-trade clause barring deals to 6 clubs without his permission (may not be traded without his permission after April 30, 2008, under right as 10-and-5 player) Also... if you have questions about Sox payroll/contract issues, check out the excellent resource put together by Kalapse.
  5. The guy who wrote that article is an idiot. The Reds, Royals, and Giants ranked ahead of the WhiteSox? And his justification in his blip is that he doesn't think Quentin is as good as he showed in 2008. Quentins OPS for 2008 was only 10 points above his minor league average. (His BA and OBP were both 30 points less than his minor league average.) How about Shin Soo Choo not having an OPS 100 points higher than his minor league average again? And having his BA and OBP exceed his minor league average? Ditto Denard Span? Etc., etc. Amazing how sportswriters seem to ignore regression when it comes to the Indians and Twins.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) Just curious, I know about Allen's bat, but what's the word on his Defense at first? Very athletic. Needs to work on his hands though. Not stone, but no one is going to mistake him for a gold-glover yet either.
  7. Absolutely perfect way for Contreras and Colon to finish up spring training. Couldn't have scripted it better than that.
  8. Nice to see Christian Marrero and Salvadore Sanchez play. They were two of the big stars of the 2007 Great Falls team, along with Retherford, and Poreda. Marrero has a sweet swing. He'll be at Winston-Salem in 2009. This will be an important year to determine whether he's a prospect or pretender. His brother is Chris Marrero of the Nationals.
  9. On Jenks' strike out of Chris Young in the 6th... 96mph on the gun.
  10. I've been a Bears fan for a long time... And we've NEVER had a quarterback even close to being as talented as this guy. How can anyone with a pulse NOT be pumped?
  11. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) Yes I know , I was just putting that out there. Is Getz going to play everyday and who will back him up on days off etc. ? I'm guessing that Getz will end up with 500+ at-bats as the Sox everyday 2B... and that Lillibridge might end up with around 1/2 that many (250'ish) as a utility guy backing up at 2B, SS, and if needed CF. Lillibridge has to start looking better at the plate though. Otherwise he could end up moving to Charlotte when Nix is healthy.
  12. Did you watch spring training? Getz is a better hitter than Lillibridge... period... against righties AND lefties.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) IIRC Hub isn't even a Bears fan so he doesn't feed you the company line, he'll tell it like it is. He actually is a Bear fan, but you're right... he doesn't feed the company line. He's very objective in his discussions about players and teams. In a segment on the SCORE yesterday (I think it's up on their website), he had a great conversation with Dan Hampton and Lawrence Holmes about the Cutler deal before it was announced. He took the counter-position... why it wouldn't be good for the Bears and made some good points... including questioning Cutler's leadership (not his talent). He said, "If you went into the Broncos locker room and asked guys how they really felt about it... fewer of them would be upset about Cutler leaving than you think." And it was his opinion that Chris Simms would beat out Kyle Orton in an open competition in Denver.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Since I'm not a local guy, Hub is supposed to be well connected in terms of Bears info correct? Yes. Hub's great to listen to. Outstanding football resource. He's editor of Pro Football Weekly and a very bright/objective guy who knows alot of NFL inside scoop, not just the Bears. One problem... when he starts talking about baseball it's like his IQ drops 50 points. But he's brilliant when it comes to football.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) For those saying Cutler's a crybaby lets just say this. Cutler is the face of the Broncos and his head coach is fired. Cutler is upset but stays quiet. Broncos do tell Jay that the OC will stay there, but than he gets fired. Cutler continues to stay quiet. The Broncos than hire a young coach whose going to bring in a whole new system, Cutler again stays quiet. Than the Broncos try to trade him behind his back and Cutler gets pissed. Pretty freaking understandable, especially after hearing McDaniels talk. I hope he falls flat on his face. There was an article in the Denver Post suggesting that Pat Bowlen created this train wreck by hiring an inexperienced coach without having a GM in place. I tend to agree. Tough lesson for them to learn. But, good news for us.
  16. Typo on Oregon company's cereal boxes sends callers to phone sex line Associated Press Last update: April 3, 2009 - 7:24 AM HALFWAY, Md. - An Oregon company has ordered new packaging for its Peace Cereal after a typo on the box sent callers to a phone sex line instead of the cereal maker's 800 number. Instead of reaching Golden Temple of Oregon, callers were greeted by a recorded voice asking, "Do you love sex? ... Isn't that why you called?" Spokeswoman Elissa Brown said Eugene, Ore.-based Golden Temple ordered new packaging when the mistake was discovered in December and new boxes have been shipping out for weeks. However, 13 varieties of the cereal were on shelves Wednesday at one Halfway, Md., grocery store, including seven varieties in boxes bearing the incorrect telephone number. Well... as they say... there is no such thing as bad publicity. Is there? Maybe they hired Paris Hilton's publicist?
  17. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Great... giving Dickey the start one week from tomorrow night at the Cell. I'll remain optimistic since we fare so well against Twins pitchers we've never seen. We've seen him before. We lit him up last year. (He gave up 8 runs in 2 innings in his only career start at the Cell.) In fact, we've played against him 4 times in the past and had our way with him (15 earned runs on 22 hits in 13.1 innings). BTW - Dickey's no kid... he's a 34 years old journeyman with a 5.57 career ERA.
  18. Boof Bonser is having shoulder surgery and is out for the year.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) Also, another tidbit, but look for the Sox to pick up a starting pitcher for AA sometime shortly (if they haven't done so already). Not like a great prospect, more like a guy that gets waived who could come in and help down in AA. Do they have room in the rotation down there? I mean... right now, the potential starting situation looks sort of crowded as it is, doesn't it? Poreda Harrell Ely Santeliz Rasner McCulloch Long Dubee Those are all guys who were primarily starters in 2008. Who is a waiver player going to bump?
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) Cutler is a Cubs fan. No wonder he's unhappy.
  21. QUOTE (DanksFan @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Can anyone explain to me who Orlando Pace is and what the importance of him signing is? I never heard of him,... Future HOF offensive lineman
  22. Unbelievable!!! Orton + 2 first round picks + a third rounder? I like it.
  23. Greg Paiml getting a little playing time. This might be the closest he ever gets to the majors.
