I'm not so worried about Bobby right now. He went through the same thing last year, and eventually cranked it up to the high nineties. I still feel confident he'll get there again. And to the guy who was talking about Koch...no doubt. Bobby >>>> Koch. Koch couldn't control a damn thing when he was with us and Koch only dreams about having the breaking stuff Bobby has.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) See...everybody else gets it. Great point on Gooch too. Someone tell me this too....if Gooch goes something like 2-20...Ozzie has no problems pulling his ass from the lineup. But Erstad does it...he remains in the lineup. Why?!? Co-sign to all of this. Great analysis from Joey. We've tried twice now in the last two years to move Tada down in the order. On the surface, it seems like it would work, but it doesn't. He's proven that he's just better up in the order in that two hole. Move him up there, and keep Erstad down in the order and for the love of god play BA against the lefties. That's all I'd ask - give us at least a platoon situation.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!

Also, how cool is it that our biggest pen worries our Thornton and Bobby with his standard early season low velocity issues? Aardsma, Sisco and Masset have all been better than expected. And Javy has been a rock so far...knock on wood. Mr. Danks, you're up next. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) In the middle of the game, Juan took his time on a soft one hopper and then hesitated, before barely throwing out the runner at second on the good catch by Gooch. In the ninth, with men on 1st and 2nd and nobody out, there was a ball hit right to Uribe, easy DP ball. But he threw it wildly and Gooch made an awesome play to stop it from going to right field and getting the out at second. That coulda been a really bad spot, but thankfully Jenks dominated the next two hitters. Unfortunately he is charged with a run because of Uribe's D, but I'd say that he WAY more than made up for it with his O. Good summary, let's also not forget the second grounder in the ninth where he took two steps before getting it to Tada costing another double play. I think he was spooked by this point, but I have seen him run it over himself too many times before - the one main criticism I have of his defensive game. He's got to get back on the beam on d after this one. I'm sure he will. -
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) Which attendant are you, there are only 3....how is roy as a boss? Sorry to disappoint, pards, it's only a screen name. I can't even cook very well...Although I'd love to have Roy as a boss...I hear he's pretty cool, but that's just what I hear as a fan, who knows?

QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) its obvious how much we need him by the fact that A.J. has played in 6 straight games.....thats very rare for a catcher I'm sure Molina will get the day game on Wednesday. But it's clear they want to play him as little as possible. It will be a godsend to get Toby back at the end of this month or sometime in May because I don't think we could go a full year with Molina as the backup. I just don't see him as ready for the bigs just yet.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) who is that left fielder and what has he done with Scott PodsednikI'm not all that surprised to be honest because this is right on target with his career path thus far. He's the Saberhagen of swift leadoff punch and judy outfielders...good year, bad year, good year, bad year, good year.
-
Miriam Contreras...timing is not your strong suit. Take care of this business in the winter. You are playing with the faith of 3,000,000 White Sox fans.

All that, and what I liked the best was that the d looked so crisp. If Erstad has the legs to play central like he has so far I got no problem with sticking him out there every day. Pods looks to be back on beam, which would fall right in line with his career path of good year, bad year, good year, bad year, good year on the offensive end of things. Nice to see Jimmy with a couple of hits including another homer. I got your house of horrors right here, Oakland!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) Please tell me that Bonds will be wearing 24. Crap, he will be wearing it. I'd rather have any honest player wear the number before him. The Cubs have 4 players wearing the number. I wonder if Thomas will be wearing it for the Blue Jays. See this is what I'm talking about. Too many guys running around wearing the number takes away from it. Start with Bonds and go from there and you have a nice gesture gone awry.

QUOTE(soxfansince04 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 07:01 AM) Maybe Ozzie didn't want Contreras going up against Santana due to his mess of an Opening Day, didn't want to give him the extra mental pressure of going up against Santana? Maybe he thinks Contreras will be more likely to succeed in his next start if he dims the spotlight a little on the guy. Well whatever the reason, it worked pretty well. Not as well as it could have with a W posted, but the next best thing - a solid outing from Danks without taxing the pen too much and we had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth.

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) Harden is 3-1 with a 2.90 against us in his career, that's a cakewalk compared to Santana. I remember the first time we faced him at the Cell...must have been '03 or '04. Had a seat right behind the dish and was duly impressed. Ozzie said in the postgame presser that he has "a good feeling about California" this year. Also said he didn't know why. I don't know why either, 13... -
Good job Jermaine. I think the idea of having a premier African-American player on each team wear #42 on the 15th is fantastic. (I myself got a Dye #23 jersey this year as a ode to the 60th anniversary of Black Americans in the game.) However, I think what the Dodgers are doing by having their whole team wear #42 is too much and having random white and Latino players running around wearing it can trivialize it. Even if the thought is sincere, and I'm sure it is for most guys, it's just a bit much in my opinion.

Add me in to the list of people impressed by John Danks today. Most impressive was the way he rebounded from the three run jack by taking care of matters in the next two innings. Nice call to take him out after the sixth right at the 100 pitch mark. What can you say - you had a rookie making his debut against the universally acknowledged best pitcher in the game and we had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Let's go get them in Oakland. Ozzie's postgame was good btw, for those that may not have heard it. He said next time he was going to get his mom to cook for Santana and that then "he won't feel like pitching the next day".

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 09:16 AM) They said on Comcast Sportsnet that Contreras was still scheduled to go on Sunday vs Santana. EDIT: And now the White Sox homepage has Danks going vs Santana. Guess we'll know tomorrow. When has comcrap been right about anything? The homepage has Danks, the big board today had Danks, it will be Danks. I'm okay with it. He's got to start sometime. It's not like Santana is hitting against him, although that might be fun.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Except for the fact that it doesn't. They're just going to skip Danks in the rotation so Buehlre will make his scheduled start on Tuesday. Reports are that Danks goes against Santana on Sunday...uh oh.

Nowadays Hawk has either his longtime standbye people that love him or those that have grown tired of him or newbies that never took to him. Personally, I still stand by him, but clearly he's lost his fastball just a bit. Not Harryesque yet, but IMO in the coming years he must know when to say when. Listen to some of his old casts with Wimpy or some of his even older casts with Double D and you'll see his booth is simply not what it was. Some of that due to Hawk's getting older and some due to the fact that they paired him with the younger DJ who has to bow down to Hawk. It is Hawk's booth and that's not always a good thing. I think he'd be a much better listen with someone of his own age like Tommy John who would be his own man and not ape everything Hawk does as DJ is sometimes apt to do. I'll say this: Hawk has true White Sox passion. I don't believe one ounce of that passion is canned and that I can respect.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) I don't know -- I understand everything Ozzie says. Glad he's good. Thank god he's okay. I had visions of a season filled with eight walk, six passed ball outings from Charlie. Of course with what Burls did last year, that might not mean much of a difference. Anyhow, here's hoping the portsider is back on beam within a few days.

I'm with those saving the lion's share of the blame today to Garland for not holding the original lead, Thornton's failure in the pinches against Grady, JD's general suckitude at the dish, and failure of certain guys in clutch situations (iguchi's ill-fated bunt attempt and the ninth-inning fiasco). And I'm also not about giving too much credence to these first two games. Yeah, you need to get on the board with a W asap, and JC on opening day was pure crap. But we've got to give it some time. That said, it's imperative to start winning games this week and over the weekend. Both from the standpoint of getting some W's and confidence under our belt, but also for the sheer numbers of it. I'm guessing the Twinkies will roll the O's again tonight and we could get buried early if we're not careful. The weather WAS brutal out there, some of the worst I've ever sat through on the south side - and that covers a crapload of games. But the weather was bad for both teams so it's no excuse. The bad news is that it's supposed to be like this the rest of the week, so the fellas better get used to it. Kudos to the fans who sat through that whole game - and there were more than I expected would sit through it.

Ozzie: "If we don't win, fire me"

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) I have the most respect for Steve Stone EVER, so I hope you are on to something. Ah true, but this is Ozzie when it's never too early to say anything...bad, good, or indifferent. Kenny's response of "Ozzie being Ozzie" pretty much summed it up for me. I give a thorough "yawn" to this story. -

Eh he's a Trib guy, I'll reserve judgment until I can thumb through it a bit at the store and see how much Trib bias I have to wade through. -
QUOTE(Drew @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) That's ridiculous. It's MLB's ballot, let them decide who only plays 1B in NL parks, on full moons, when Kevin Youkilis needs a day off. I'd say among any White Sox on the ballot, the best chance we have of getting a starter on the field (aside from the mound) is Tadahito Iguchi. With Soriano playing left field in the other league, there is no longer a slam-dunk pick at 2B in the AL, unless you give it to the Robinson Cano because he's a f***ing Yankee. It could be different this year with our increased attendance. We'll have to see how the computer vote comes in too, of course, but if nothing else I expect Tad, Joe, Paulie, maybe even JD or AJ to be more competitive than some of our top candidates in the recent past.

I used to not believe all that stuff about Hawk putting Wimpy out, but as the years stroll by it seems more and more plausible. It's little things, like the other night on the broadcast - early in the game Hawk brings up Don Drysdale in a story and refers to him glowingly as "My former partner Don Drysdale". Then later on, the Aflac trivia question answer happens to be Tom Paciorek. And DJ says, "Tom Paciorek...the Wimpster....good ballplayer." To which Hawk replies with zero emotion, "yes, he was". Then he went right away to solicit more emails. And as far as Wimpy's work now - yes, he is with the Nats and is partnered with Bob Carpenter. It is an excellent listen if you have MLB Extra Innings, it's worth your time if they've got a good matchup going on.
