This tigers game is taking the life out of me. Also, MLB network is annoying as hell. I got it for free when I signed up for comcast, and thought it was alright until tonight. The difference between the game announcers' volume and the commercials' volume is so drastic, worse than any other channel I've ever watched. I feel like I'm going to wake my neighbors up when the commercials come on, and I can barely hear the game. I don't really enjoy playing with my remote all night. I hope the indians score very soon.

QUOTE (Real @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 12:02 AM) doubt Sale cares about saves when he'll eventually be a starting pitcher I agree. I doubt he cares at all. He is still years away from arbitration.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) So what are we thinking about Mauer these days? He has 1 HR and 8 Doubles... I know it's only been 56 games, but he's not the superstar that signed that massive contract anymore. Is he on a decline for good now? Is it just injuries and the move to Target Field? I see no reason to think that.

QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) Hindsight Police, should never get a National League player (AAA) & bring them to the American League. At least get a guy who has played in the American League before. Andruw Jones was so bad last year, but at least he still hit .200. Scotty Pods was the only one that actually helped our team after never playing in the AL. Adrian Gonzales says 'hi'. -
Disbelief in the other teams in our division is a good enough reason alone to me. Like I said though, we aren't going to agree. There is no point in arguing about it.

Rios actually thinks he can improve his hitting stance

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) A whole lot of talent and a decent history of having been effective. I hope it turns around for him, but at this point I don't think it will. It might next year with a lot of time off. I think his problems are mostly mental. Then again, what do I know about him? Just about nothing. -
The philosophical question is - Is an ill informed decision with poor risk/reward consequences a good decision in hindsight when it turns out to be right. I say no. My other argument is that this selling would have been the wrong move at the time given the information we had at that time. These things are both disputable. We aren't going to come to an agreement.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) You shouldn't be allowed to post again until you address every one of Caufield's points. When you call out people to present counter arguments to your position, and someone does exactly, it's just cowardly of you to call them "fallacies" as you slowly back away from the computer. Also, deciding whether or not to sell is not something of a philosophical question. Quit making it out to be more than it is. Either you believe the team is in it or not -- there's definitely a right and wrong answer, as we've seen this last week. If you read the re-edit. I said he also made some good points. I didn't say that was a philosophical question.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) 1) Detroit has beaten us head-to-head pretty consistently the last 2 seasons. 2) Dunn/Rios/Beckham have shown no signs of being All-Star caliber players 3) Humber/Peavy wearing down and struggling in middle innings 4) Acquisitions by the Indians (Jimenez/Fukudome) and Tigers (Fister/Pauley/Betemit) made winning the division all that much more difficult 5) Health concerns about Viciedo getting back to form 6) Verlander wins nearly every game out, we don't have a true ace 7) Porcello and Scherzer have pitched very well since Knapp was fired 8) Detroit got healthy Carlos Guillen and Austin Jackson back...even Ordonez has been hitting better 9) Spectre of facing the Yankees and then the Twins/Orioles on the road I'm not going to address all of the fallacies here. There are also some good points. I simply don't want to spend my time doing it right now. I'm going out. Anyway, it wouldn't take the sharpest mind in the world to come up with a counter argument for each of these, and bring up positive points that you had not mentioned. Hell, you could probably even do it despite biases. More important to my point is what I said in #36. Its a philosophical position I've taken, and there are no right answers. That is just my opinion. Have a lovely day.

This is what I am saying - On monday I predict that it will rain six inches because I have the day off and it almost always rains on my day off. Tuesday, it then rains, six inches exactly. Was that prediction right? Was it made with sound reasoning? Should I be commended? Apply for a job as a weather man? Personally, I don't think so.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) How often do you post here? Or are you mainly a lurker? A sizable chunk wanted KW to sell before Red Sox series. I know. I just told you -it was the wrong move then. You don't seem to understand that. There were no overwhelming reasons to assume we couldn't win the division. For every argument that we could not, there was one showing that we could. I have over 2,000 posts?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Then don't pull the Monday morning QB card. The point is, if you looked without a negative bias at the then present situation, and looked at where we are now, you will have made the moves kenny did. To prognosticate into the future a six game losing streak when the team was playing well, is as ill informed a move as monday morning quarterbacking, and both can be criticized. Unless of course, you can tell me why you would predict this losing streak, considering the teams recent performance and performance against teams above .500. I'm guessing they mostly wanted to sell based on fear. That's not a valid reason to make a move, even if they happened to be right.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Huh? Not at this board. Elrockin and GH are the exceptions. Most wanted the Sox to sell before the deadline. Irrelevant.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 11:45 PM) Paul Konerko changes like every at bat. Paul has one of the prettiest right handed swings I've ever seen. Rios has ? -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) Doesn't matter what fathom thinks. Point is KW didn't think it was over. Otherwise CQ, Thornton and others more than likely wouldn't be here. It doesn't require a really high I.Q. to realize that relying on Peavy/Humber for the long haul is probably a bad idea. I don't know what happened to KW. I thought he was a top 5 GM in baseball a few years ago. But man is he awful now. It wasn't over then. It is pretty much is now. A lot of monday morning quarterbacking going on here lately.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) It really wasn't a damned good post. Get with the 21st century. Twitter is a mainstream information source. Sometimes it is, but this thread shows how it can be something grossly different- a cyber-place for celebrities and the public to gossip. But to generalize and write the whole thing off probably isn't a good idea.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) Hah Yeah Rosenthal worded it that way. But after thinking about it thats not the case. So is my opinion your opinion now? If the sox are looking for a starter, its as you said. I guess its that part of the rumor that suggests kenny was a mindless idiot who flipped back and forth that I found unbelievable.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) It's just the way Rosenthal worded his tweet that makes it sound like KW just realized that trading Jackson thinned out his starting staff. That's ridiculous. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) Yeah this idea must have been festering in Kenny's mind for some time. This just didnt come up today. I agree with all of this.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) You think he just decided this since the last game? No. That is what was suggested by you:
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) Yeah he says the samething after every trade deadline and look what happens I don't agree. In the past, I remember him being candid about participating in negotiations. Its the specifics that he will not discuss. The reason I don't believe this is it doesn't make any sense. Kenny is not a fan that overreacts to every bad game. This rumor seems to appeal to that mentality.
-
Kenny said today that he isn't planning to make any more trades by the deadline. I believed him. Maybe I bought a line, maybe not.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) Uh....Its Ken...he doesnt report stuff that he pulls out of thin air I'm sure he has been wrong before.
-
I don't buy this rumor at all.
