QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Other teams make boneheaded plays too. One play that almost every team looks as bad as the White Sox at is the rundown.
-
Aviles doesn't know how many outs there are. Poor managing by Francona.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) Does it seem we can't steal a base? They have 1, but maybe all they can steal is 1 base. They worked very hard on all aspects of baserunning this spring., but it appears they have regressed.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) Dirty play by Melky. They will probably retaliate and line one off Q's face.
-
Huge crowd. At least 7k.

It very well may be a token start, but Robin isn't going to let Francona know he is playing a man short before the game.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Finally the post that puts you on my ignore. Took you long enough. You're the master of strawman arguments and I'm tired of knocking them down. If you can't see the difference between using a super sub with platoon advantages to give regulars days off over the course of the season verse starting him over your promising rookie (with no platoon advantage as well) in game 7 after an off day -- well f*** off. LMAO. Knock down arguments? You bashed Robin for playing Beckham in game 2, 2-4 rbi and a run. You bashed Robin for giving Beckham ABs. 3-8 hr, 3 rbi. You say Robin has the energy of an obese 80 year old and that could be a problem, then in the Ventura thread say his demeanor has nothing to do with your dislike. And no surprise, you bash Robin for PH for Soto with Shuck. Seems Robin is doing a lot better managing than you. So if he doesn't know what he is doing............

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Remember how Garland was awful at throwing to first on bunts or soft grounders. It was really funny like he didnt know how to play the game of baseball. A lot of pitchers have problems throwing off flat ground after being on the mound for a while.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) That is clear to you through 3.7% of the season? It's a classic. He's bashing Robin for playing him, yet saying he would play him tonight in CF.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Alright, well my whole thing is lets not write the story on this til it actually happens. I'll determine waste of $3M this year once the year is over. If you have a win now year then the non Conor ABs and the non Micah ABs are a concern for a depth less team with so-so ready now farm talent. Bonifacio is going to play because things happen. But he is not going to be able to exclusively face LHP. That is impossible.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Do not forget situational late game PH ABs and situational postseason PH ABs Yes but that is limited. He isn't going to bat for Eaton, Cabrera, Abreu, Garcia, Ramirez. And not a lot of teams have more than 1 or 2 LH relievers. He is going to have to face RHP, and as I predicted, the first time he starts against a RHP, the not being used properly posts would accumulate. If all he can face is LHP, he is a waste of a roster spot.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) Sometimes I wonder WTH is with the relationship between the manager and FO of this club. It's like, they spent good money on Bonifacio and he's a valuable tool used correctly -- has anyone mentioned it to Robin? Since you posted this: what a luxury having a guy like Bonafacio is. Can play almost every position and hits well enough to where if you had to plug him in for a month it wouldn't be a complete black hole in the lineup. Seriously the difference between him and the guys they trotted out last year (Leury mostly) is probably 2 WAR. Can't say enough what an amazing job Hahn did fixing pretty much every weakness, including bench utility guy. This post has been edited by chitownsportsfan: Mar 13, 2015 -> 03:33 PM have you changed your mind? Now you don't think he should play against 80% of MLB pitching.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Part of me's trying to not to make a big deal out of this Bonifacio thing, but part of me is just really annoyed. To paraphrase terms I used a few days ago, it's not an incredibly important mistake, but it is an incredibly obvious one. The other thing is there may be something that we don't know. Maybe Micah is sick or slightly injured. I know several times over the years managers have been ripped for not using pitchers or players, and then finding out those players weren't really available.
-
If Bonifacio can only or should only play against LHP, approximately 80% of pitchers are RH, so he should start, if used properly by the experts here, 32 or 33 games a season. If being used properly means you can only bat against 1 or 2 or 3 pitchers on a staff, what a waste of $4 million.

Robin tried to calm Frank down so he wouldn't get ejected. Yankee Stadium 1996. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1996-08...terry-bevington

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) Any criticism of Ventura I have isn't about screaming in the dugout or his outward emotions. The media seems to want to go that way because that's what they do. Well there was the guy at Soxfest who actually asked him if he had a pulse. There are many posts on here criticizing his demeanor. There have been posts saying he doesn't even want to manage. His lack of jumping up and down has been a huge issue for fans everywhere, including here. We are only 3 or 4 days away removed from the team taking on the personality of it's manager posts, and it wasn't meant positively. People just want to criticize him. When he sent Rios to the bench for loafing a few years ago, he was criticized for doing so. No matter what, he will be wrong. I wasn't in the gamethread when he pinch hit for Soto on Saturday, but I bet the pitchforks were ready. He turned out to be correct as Shuck came through, and the people ready to call him an idiot had to scramble.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) I know when sale came back last year from injury the sox were trying to get him to use less of the slider and more changeups and fastballs. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/04/14/spi...ite-sox-season/ If they can perfect it, fewer sliders probably helps keep them off the operating table. -
6 bad games indicates he is pretty much screwed this year. Hopefully at some point in the last 156 he can figure something out which can give him some hope for next season.
-
Noah is out tonight. Will this team ever have a full roster 2 games in a row?
-
The worst full season Longoria has had is a 3.5 WAR, he is owed the next 7 seasons aboit the same as Panda is owed the next 5. He is a bargain who isn't going to move.

Russell Wilson now talking about playing 2 sports. Dan O'Dowd was talking about him as a baseball player a couple weeks, and he basically said his ceiling is a utility player.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Why do we always discuss Danks and act as if Noesi is any better? Sox have a problem with both of them in terms of being very effective. Noesi was able to limit the damage, but I think the shadows helped him out. It was his first start of the year, the team was 0-3 coming in, and it was the home opener, which is pretty much for a guy who has been waived twice to take on. Hopefully, nerves had something to do with his control issues, and he puts that behind him, because he won't be able to get away with giving up 2 runs with the walks, balks, wild pitches and HBP very often. They have Rodon in the wings. He is going to come up. They have seemingly set him up to make as few starts in AAA as possible while staying in their rotation. Another successful start or 2, it's hard to imagine one of Danks or Noesi, assuming no injury, will be in the rotation more than a couple of more starts.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Trading him could actually be the smart play though. Do you think people would go to a new stadium to see 1 star player? I'm not trying to argue, I've just never understood that sentiment. Rockies and Phillies could benefit from dealing Hamels, Lee, Utley, Cargo, Tulo. I've seen the excuse that the fans go to watch those guys play. I'd much rather have the return and the possibility of a better baseball team instead of going out and seeing a bad team play that has "stars" on it. I know it's a different scenario from Longoria but if they could get 5-6 players? I'd consider it. I think if you looked at trades where franchise players are involved, most of the the time, while you may get some slick prospects, your baseball team gets worse. The biggest thing your team gains is the financial relief. Longoria isn't making TB bleed cash. He isn't constantly injuried like 4 of the 5 players your mentioned. I think the goal of trading the guys you mentioned is to save the team some money, not to make the team better in the short term, and he is signed so long, he still will be there if there is another rebuild. Prospects are still maybes. Longoria is the one guy they signed of all the guys they have had come through. It's obvious the team thinks he is the face of the franchise. I think it's a pipedream they would trade him away, at least for anything the other side would call anything close to fair trade.
-
I really don't know why a team trying to get a stadium built would trade it's signed long-term face of the franchise. Longoria isn't going anywhere. Thinking he's available is as proposteurous as the guy in Boston who thought the Red Sox were owed Chris Sale.
