  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) I would be willing to bet about any amount of money that Ventura's not the manager the next time the White Sox manage to reach the playoffs. OK. How about $5k?
  2. The story of Texas HS phenom Todd Van Poppel. Better than Nolan Ryan. Better than Roger Clemens. He did the Braves a favor saying he wouldn't sign. They had to draft Chipper Jones instead. No matter how hard these HS phenoms throw, there is great danger. A lot bigger chance they are Todd Van Poppel than Dwight Gooden without the crack rock. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/art...801/5/index.htm
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ May 12, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) I would never, ever go to a game if it were in sw suburbs. I love where sox stadium is. It has 2 major CTA train lines. It is right off of a major highway. It also has metra stops directly along it's route. I understand the criticism of "not enough stuff to do around park" but if it's that the stadium is hard to get to you aren't going to fix that going to the suburbs. That is interesting. What exactly is there to do in Addison after games?
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 12, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) I gave mine away, but then, I also think that those tickets were not included in paid attendance totals. They are not, but still, they are free and people don't use them. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised. I know I would be more apt to eat a ticket I paid nothing for than for one I spent a lot of money. You have to price tickets at some price point people think there is value. I was reading an article about pricing beer, and one thing that was said was if you priced it too low, people wouldn't buy it. I've probably gone to 10 games so far this season, and it's easy for me as I live a couple of blocks from the Red Line and it's about 20 minutes until I'm in the park. But there are times, even when the team is good, as much as I love going to games, I just don't want to commit the time, and my time is certainly a lot less than most.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 12, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) They gave away free tickets just for filling out a simple online survey. It would be interesting to see how many people on this site got those free tickets and didn't use them.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 12, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Unfortunatly I don't have the Hawks timeline for success etched in my brain. Not sure when the old man died and Rocky took over along with the arrivals of Kane and Toews along with the shrewd marketing of the team. Everything came together in a short amount of time. At least the Hawks never changed their uni's a billion times. The point is they still really kiss the fans asses and the Sox could be better at that. I think they have. They lowered prices, even parking on Sundays. They changed the color of the seats. The problem is, no matter what the Sox do at that end, there will always be something else an average White Sox fan will complain about. The only thing that will work is consistently good teams. Unlike the Cubs, Bears and the Bulls after Michael Jordan, they cannot sustain high attendance with mediocre performance. If the Hawks win another Cup or 2, they may be in the same boat, at least for a while.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) If we assume Abreu and Eaton are for real and that Garcia bounces back fully from surgery, I'd have no problem at all moving Viciedo and getting a defense/speed guy to slot in to LF. But wouldn't you have no problem if the Sox traded Viciedo for a new churro making machinge?
  8. If you want to save some money, go to whitesox.com and the tickets link. They have the k-zone, Sox save of the week.... all their deals are there to see. White Sox tickets can be very expensive. Ridiculously expensive. But they also can be cheaper than the Kane County Cougars.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) And what are they doing when he's on the DL? Serious question. Still continuing when it's his spot in the rotation? How would a fan know? If you go to the link on the White Sox website, it will tell you what days he is scheduled to pitch. Right now it is blank. I don't know what else they are supposed to do. IIRC, I think the ad for this promotion has even popped up on this site a few times. It's pretty basic. And if it is geared toward the younger crowd, the internet is one thing in which they are far better versed than the older crowd.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Is there a link for this? http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/ticketing/kzone.jsp
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) For example, the Royals have "T-Shirt Tuesdays." Try something...anything...besides just fireworks, Picnic in the Park and Dog Day Afternoons. The Sox have a $20 lower deck ticket during Chris Sale starts which include a free t-shirt. They haven't sold that out, and it's only one section.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 12, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) Are you actually as stupid as that last question ? Damn either read everything I say or don't twist my words around. I said it's one of the many ways the Hawks show appreciation for the fans in a well run , well orchestrated marketing strategy. It all comes down to winning. The Hawks are winning. When they were not, they occassionally had tickets for FREE on ticketmaster.com, and still didn't have half the seats full. The White Sox need to win consistently. It has to be where making the playoffs is the expectation year after year, not hoping to get in once every 5 or 6 season. Then, attendance will be fine.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 12, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) I haven't seen it on Comcast and I watch just about every game. Besides , really , a congratulations commercial ? I mean, yea , it's great to say thank you Jose but why say it over and over to him in a commercial ? There's a growing disconnect between players and fans because of the huge money some of these guys make .The players don't need more accolades , the fans need accolades for spending their hard earned money to come to games or at the very least to be coddled , cajoled or convinced that it's rewarding to come see this team. Didn't they air an hour long special on Abreu's April on CSN? And have replayed it numerous times?
  14. In 2005, when the team was never not in first place, on May 5th, they drew 15k. This team is coming off a 99 loss season, the weather has been terrible. It isn't that complicated why they aren't drawing. If they continue to play well when the weather is nice and school is out, then maybe try to make this complicated. Right now, it is not. I will say, there have been several games this season they haven't been checking tickets for getting into the 100 level, if that matters to anyone.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ May 11, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) Pretty sure Kiper gave the Seahawks a C- after the draft that netted Wilson, Wagner and Irvin. During the draft I can get a little pissed at picks I don't like, but then I immediately turn on the GMs side as soon as someone says " he could've gotten him in the 3rd or fourth round." frankly the info fans have available to them is shoddy at best and gets even worse after top 20 are gone. The whole problem IMO is the term "value", especially since most of the value is determined by guys like McShay and Kiper. Long wasn't considered a value pick, yet he turned out OK, and eventually might be one of their better picks when it is all said and done. His dad said he wouldn't have been on the board much longer. That could have been. Dad talking or a guy with some good info. I do like listening to Polian. He obviously knew what he was doing. But he doesn't seem to want to argue with the other guys and I think because he was one, ripping another GMs draft isn't going to be something he is comfortable with.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ May 11, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) I always enjoy reading an article ripping Todd McShay ProFootballTalk I have tried to google it but all i ever come up with is how McShay and Kiper do on accuracy of their mock drafts. Does anyone know of any place that shows how accurate they are with their rankings of players overall as far as how they actually perform in the NFL?
  17. When you don't hit much, you look dead. The Sox didn't hit much.
  18. Why do people who don"t go to games complain about people not going to games?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) Doesn't Cooper have a big say on handling how long relievers are left in? Yes but he is a genius and Ventura an idiot so you have to ignore the facts. I thought from earlier game threads you are supposed to manage like the game is going at least 14 innings.
  20. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 10, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) I wonder if this is the quickest a reliever has ever been designated for assignment after starting the 9th with a 1-run lead. Less than a month. Maybe Mitchell Boggs with St. Louis. There has to be closers who have been DFA'd during the season.Valverde got DFA'd as the Tigers closer.
  21. It was time. I thiought they might give him one more shot, but it doesn't chap my ass they didn't.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) I will say that I love how much our guys have been swinging 3-0 this year. I feel like we're usually a team that hasn't done that in the past and I love the aggressiveness. Ozzie had the Sox taking 3-0. Always. Used to drive Hawk nuts. Hawk had a theory it had to do with Ozzie not being guy who was given 3-0 green lights when he was playing, due to the type of hitter he was.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2014 -> 08:55 PM) Danks, Floyd and Ramirez didn't have anything to do with that? The Quentin trade was a good one, but not an all-time steal like it seemed the first season for Quentin in a Sox uniform. And let's not forget that his own temper also managed the sabotage that season, just as much as the first 5 months were MVP caliber. I would say Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter is one of KW"s best trades.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) But can't you say the same for Eaton, if you're a GM and you're concerned he can't stay healthy (see Quentin, Carlos)? Or Davidson, if you're concerned he's going to strike out too much at the upper levels of the minors/AAAA/MLB? What does Davidson have to do with Santiago? I do agree the rate he is fanning in AAA seems to imdicate they dumped him in the nick of time. But Hahn should be looking at doing time for the Eaton trade.
  25. They got rid of Santiago just in time.
