Sox vs Twins April 2 game thread

0 earned runs correct? When it's cold and windy, throw some strikes and let them hit it. The balls aren't wound as tight as they were a few years ago. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) What kind of pitch selection is that?? Get him 0-2 and throw 4 breaking balls to the number 9 hitter? Jesus I'm blaming AJ -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Paulino looks like a reliever to me. The problem is, when he has relieved in his career, calling him a gas can is giving him way too much credit. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) I'm thinking Paulino has a real solid game today. I'll ahead and throw out a line... 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5K. Pitch count will remove him from the game early. The cold should help him as long as he doesn't walk too many. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) Its the 2nd game of the damn season, nobody can make assumptions based off of 2 line ups.. Would you bench a guy who hit 2 home runs the previous game no matter what the circumstance is? I know I wouldn't. I have a suspicion if Viciedo played in these 2 games the complaint would have been why is De Aza on the roster if he isn't going to play against RHP? -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) You still have to pay bench players, and he's making about $3 million which is not a lot of money. De Aza is just over $4 million. That's $7 million to improve value or increase versatility or get production out of LF or however you want to look at it. If those two combine for 2 WAR, the Sox are getting a discount, or however you want to look at it. Trading a guy just because you don't have a lot of playing time for him and taking whatever you can get is really poor business practice. Releasing said player when they are in a very good, cost controlled situation is even worse. And things happen during the season. When Alexei Ramirez joined the Sox, he played the first couple games in CF. He then didn't play a full game for almost 2 weeks. He still got over 500 plate appearances. Juan Uribe in 2004 had over 550 plate appearances. The first 6 games, he had a total of 5. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) So you'll agree with me in a couple weeks when it's clear this is a firm platoon that it was a terrible idea? It was a great idea for the opener. Your line up construction WAR is already -1.0. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) Which is a good summary of why I said we needed to move one of them before ST ended, because De Aza is a solid player and he's got a good chance of keeping playing time if he gets it. Yes. It is just where you don't want to be, having a roster with guys who actually earn playing time. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) So why didn't we dump Viciedo in the offseason if he's not going to play? It's April 2nd and one game in. I'm thinking he will get a shot. -
It would be strange having the Bank of Montreal's name on a Chicago ballpark.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) Well if creepy avatar guy says it. It's not creepy. It's Geddy Lee. And Sullivan had an article about Ozzie thinking about going to USCF last year. It said JR was told Ozzie was thinking of coming to the game and JR said "good". -

Ozzie returning to White Sox as team ambassador
Dick Allen replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He will return someday. Not as the manayer, but team ambassador,Spanish broadcaster, broadcaster, special advisor.... something. He burned some bridges, but he burned bridges when he left as a player. From the interviews I have seen with him, it seems obvious to me he knows he screwed up. He seems humbled, it could be fake, there has been some fake humility before with both Ozzie and KW. I think this time for him, it is real. I would imagine there will be some sort of Frank Thomas Day this year when he goes into the HOF. That might be a perfect time to have Ozzie return to USCF> -
Considering the Cubs and their fans aren't teased about taking Mike Harkey one pick before Jack McDowell, or when they spend decades looking for a 3rd baseman, Ty Griffin one pick before Robin Ventura, I doubt the Sox or their fans will get any crap if the Cubs pick a star and the Sox a bust. This is however, pick #3 and the Sox probably don't plan on picking this high in the future, so there is a ton of pressure not to miss. They have to get something back for losing 99 games. As long as he's not injured, if he slipped, Rondon is the guy. Don't pass it up. If he turns out as good as they said he would previously, if you drafted me every round the rest of the draft, it would be very successful. Don't try to save money for a guy who will top out in AA if you can get a guy that has perrenial all star stamped next to his name.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:21 PM) I think it comes down to TV deals. Where could the Sox go and provide a ton of inventory for a regional sports network, which has led to huge TV contracts for teams like the Rangers. Attendance is important, but the TV deals are where the real money is now. There are three markets suitable to support professional teams that have no baseball teams in the region, Fox Sports Indiana, Fox Sports Oklahoma, and Fox Sports Carolinas. You can throw Oklahoma City out because of TV market size, but Charlotte and Indianapolis would seem to be players for any team looking to re-locate and receive a financial windfall. http://msn.foxsports.com/home/page/fsn The Sox are tied to their contracts now. When they are not tied to their contracts, and that day will come before they ever have a chance to flee, it's hard to imagine they can't do better financially in Chicago than in Charlotte or Indy. Maybe Tampa Bay makes sense to move to one of those places or Oakland, but the only place the Sox would move if it's out of the city is into the suburbs.

Konerko wants no special treatment, start on O.D.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) It was a fiasco. He's the only player in history to have dragged a $50m+ extension into free agency and end up eventually re-signing with the team offering the extension prior to free agency. It doesn't make him evil, but it does make him a greedy athlete like all the rest, not a beacon of justice. But Jeter himself stayed out of it, unlike Frank Thomas who moaned about the contract with a diminished skills clause that he signed. And it was the Yankees that took it public and made it a so-called fiasco. But you are a 100% saber guy and it's Derek Jeter so haters gonna hate. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) This is really too bad. There are very few people who want Dunn on the White Sox, but given the extenuating circumstances, keeping him on the roster makes sense. I mean, it's opening day for crying out loud, be happy and cheer the guys. Yeah, I don't understand why people spend money to attend something that apparently bothers them so much.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) You want to see a slow swing, Tyler Flowers, he was god awful. Dunn did not get the ball out of the infield. Security was tight at the park as there was a rumor floating in the Chicago Police Department that Obama may be attending the game. Dunn had some good ABs though. I was in 125 and a guy 2 rows in front of me doesn't let Adam Dunn have one swing and a miss without letting him have it. It really was annoying.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Because Keith Law does not hate the White Sox, much to the chagrin of Sox fans everywhere. He did say the Sox made a mistake signing Abreu when they signed him. He said they wouldn't be able to compete again until he was into his decline. I do think he hates KW's style more than the White Sox though. It took him a couple years before he admitted he may have been wrong about Sale. So just keep in mind if Keith Law were a White Sox executive with heavy clout, Sale and Abreu wouldn't be on the team. Everyone in professional baseball would be into their decline before the White Sox were able to compete.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) BTW, did you see Bonds giving the MVP trophy to Cutch yesterday? Must have lost 50 lbs. - barely recognized, though it was Bobby. He probably is off the juice and he is a big bicycle rider now. That will slim you down fast.

If Sale was taking anything, he deserves a refund.
