  1. Basically KW is to RH what JR was to KW.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) leg work, and the basic plan, and most of the ideas for the team. That is a pretty big shift. Of course, as others have pointed out, that was probably already happening in 2012, and will transition further in 2013. Obviously it won't be a an on/off switch. But I have no doubt that by the end of 2013, Hahn will be doing 80% of what KW was doing as of, say, this time last year. I think he will be doing KW's old job this afternoon, the only difference being while KW had to take things to JR, RH will be taking them to KW.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Big things will always be done in committee, sure. But little to medium things, Rick will own, and big things, he will own the idea-generation and getting things served up, for discussion in said committee. That is the job of a GM. JR just said KW will maintain oversight and final approval on major baseball deals. I think the change is more gas in Rick's tank, and Hahn now doing the legwork.
  4. It will be interesting to see what they say at the press conference. I don't know where people are getting KW is just being phased out. If the White sox told him to leave they have to pay him for a year anyway. I would imagine most of the decisions are a group effort, so that will probably not change, just Hahn chasing down the deals not KW.
  5. Move the statues to the upper deck concourse, and offer every concession offered in the lower deck on the upper level. That way we can put an end to the complaining about lower deck access.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) There aren't 'alternative players' you can get for that money that will be any better and yes, it would shock me if he hit .170 next season. Not only did Dunn get worse due to his own ailments, but he got worse when his protection behind him in the order went downhill in the second half. Sure blame Konerko for Dunn. Check Dunn's numbers for June, July and August. He got hurt August 31st he was hitting .205 with an ,820 Ops on pace to shatter the steikeout record. He finished at .204 with a .800 ops. He is nowhere near worth what he is paid. If the Sox could reinvest that $15 million a year wisely, they would be a better team.
  7. Trump, should release his college transcripts.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Stop comparing the 2012 Adam Dunn and start making more relevant comparisons: Even with the injury, the 2012 Adam Dunn had an OPS that was 231 points higher than the 2011 Adam Dunn. Even with the injury, the 2012 Adam Dunn had an OBP that was only one point below Rios, a little bit better than AJ, and a lot better than Viciedo, Beckham, and Ramirez. I get that Dunn isn't producing like we expect for somebody with his salary, but the reality is that the 2013 Sox are worse without him than with him, unless there is some really dumb GM out there that will make some insane kind of deal. Yes, you can probably unload him and most or maybe even all of his salary, but that isn't going to make the team better in 2013. If you can unload him and spend the money on alternative players. Would it shock anyone If Dunn hit .170 next season? The injury is a great excuse but he wasn't all that great from late May on.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) I can't speak for him, but I am saying that prior to the injury, he had no trouble catching up to fastballs. After that, it was hit and miss (figuratively and literally), based on the injury. He still was having the second worst season of his career pre-injury, and was on apace to fan 240 times.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) 1.) Why does the cussing get old? I still say Loria is a hypocrite for laughing his butt off at the F bombs and loving Oz's personality before all the losing began. 2.) Maybe, but I don't think he's said crazy things in as studio host. 3.) Can you deny Heath Bell loafed in the offseason to get that lousy? 4.) The Miami players failed. Again this is a case of assessing too much blame to a manager. Players play. 5.) I think Loria was pissed he got called out by a guy who was supposed to be afraid of the big, bad owner. 6.) Loria didn't give him a solid team. Bell was a critical piece who was a joke. Lotta bums in that clubhouse, but one stud admittedly in Mark. They don't need Buehrle now in rebuilding. We have pieces to trade. Get him back IMO. Greg, you are being a hypocrite. You posted to get some posts removed but wonder why Ozzie's cussing would get old. Isn't baseball a family sport? I just wonder where he goes from here. I don't think anyone wii offer him multi-years to manage. Roger said something yesterday that if he wanted to manage again he probably would have to coach first, and said if he coached, somehow it would screw up his pension. I also read Fox didn't want him back for the WS this year as his work ethic wasn't the best. If he were to broadcast, whoever hired him would be a wreck because he could cuss at anytime let alone insult all the listeners.
  11. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) btw...is there a sobbing Cowley article yet anywhere? Cowley doesn't write columns anymore. I think he is on the Bulls beat.
  12. Trump is offering to donate $5 million to a charity of Obama's choice if he releases his college transcripts. What a game changer.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) He tore his oblique and lost bat speed, imagine that. I don't know about his bat speed per se, but when he originally hurt his oblique he was hitting .205 with an .820 OPS, and was on pace to shatter the single season strikeout record. If anyone wants his contrct, the Sox would be foolish not to oblige. He can have all the bat speed in the world, if you swing and miss, it doesn't matter.
  14. Since Trump wants to give Obama zero credit for killing OBL, will he be giving credit to the minion he had dig up this piece of dirt? I thought it would be something about his college transcripts. It seems to be what Trump has been hung up on lately. If this is the best he can do, Obama must be squeaky clean.
  15. Ozzie won't manage on a one year contract. considering how the last 2 seasons have gone, why would any team give him more than one year? I really don't think he is too upset about today's announcement, but it will probably keep him from managing again unless he has been humbled enough to work on one year contracts.
  16. Have Pudge give the fans rides home after the game.. http://www.tmz.com/2012/10/23/carlton-fisk.../#ixzz2A9iotOQc
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) I figured, but it gave a nice segue into a reason that really is valid to worry about Dunn - he's a big dude getting older, and injuries may become more of an issue as time goes on. He did have the second lowest OPs of his career. iMO, he is definitely on the downside, injuries or not.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) It was a throw away post, but if you want to keep the back and forth going . . . the Sox have a much better idea where the economy is heading than you or me. If dropping their ticket prices is a sure sign of impending economic doom, how do you explain their ticket policies when the economy took its biggest dip since the Great Depression? They want to appeal to people and have finally decided to take major steps for that to happen. If White Sox ticket prices determine when you buy and sell stocks, while its probably as legit as many trading programs out there, it hardly makes any sense. People need to remember "too expensive" doesn't always mean "can't afford".
  19. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 21, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) Pretty good article, did some good research and comparisons. I realize TM has to make money, but the fees are indeed outrageous. Not only is there a processing fee, but also a convenience fee. It's like the Seinfeld episode with a finder's fee, key fee, etc. Seems a bit much for it to cost like $9 to order tickets online. And if you want to print them yourself? We'll charge you more for that too. As a % of the ticket you're already paying for, it can be ridiculously high. I read an article last summer which was really interesting. Ticketmaster's fees vary from team to team. What they charge for White Sox tickets is higher than what they charge for most other teams.
  20. The Marlins are paying more for Heath Bell not to pitch for them than they would have to pay Ozzie to not manage them. maybe Ozzie is sticking around.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 05:12 PM) Where you stand in the league is an excellent barometer to how good of a team you have. So the Tigers are't very good, and the Yankees are great.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) But what did he come back from? When was he ever good? He earned the "Breakout Player" award or "Most Improved" but not comeback player. Comeback player of the year is pretty much most improved from the previous season. Rodney was decent 6 or 7 years ago.
  23. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) You're kidding yourself if you don't think postseason runs boost attendance. You don't need market research to show that. The actual data bears it out. That said, we didn't go to the postseason this year, so that obviously won't give us a boost in 2013. No, but the new price structure should help, plus I don't think there will be a mass exit of season ticket accounts, which drive attendance.
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) No asterisk, however unlike you I don't think it's good strategy to strive to be the 7th best team in the league going forward. When did I ever say that? The goal is to win the division, and then 11 playoff games. You don't have to win 125 games in the regular season to do that.
  25. QUOTE (champs2005 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) never mind 2006 or 2007 guys, we are living in 2012 and the 2013 season is being planned for. The market research reflects what fans think NOW. You dont plan 2013 for what fans thought 6 years ago. We can argue all we want, but rest assured that Brooks Boyer and the Sox brain trust now will NOT assume that more people will show up if the Sox win. They have to create strategies that get people to show up. And they are doing this. Like they built Bacardi in the Park. Like they built that Metra station stop. Now they are finally cutting parking and ticket prices. Of course the GM and that staff want to get good players and we fans want the team to win. But honestly we all must stop repeating this mantra of if "they win they will come" because it isnt true. Especially in light of the fact that 70% of current fans would rather watch the games at home. OMG that is a horrible stat. The survey occurred in the last 3 months. Most of that time the team was in first place. It would be kind of hard for them to say they aren't going to the games because the team isn't winning. The reality is, if the Sox won the WS last year, season tickets wouldn't have dropped, people would have bought packages to assure themselves playoff tickets and the survey would never have occurred. If you think winning doesn't matter with White Sox attendance, I think you are way off. The problem is, they had a pricing system in place this season that made not finding a code or trying to buy tickets within a week of a game, make the cost of attending a game ridiculous.
