The Miami Marlins thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) A buddy of mine actually had a very good idea for how to get rid of Ozzie, without firing him. Fire Joey Cora and his staff members. Actually, that seems to be what may happen. The Marlins think Ozzie runs an unprofessional clubhouse talking about his money, having his adult sons roam free and always swearing. How did they not know this when they hired him? Ozzie did say he would quit if they did anything to his staff and Joey's status may test whether Ozzie really is a man of his word. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/sports/b...some-wit/nSTg4/

Dan johnson
Better than 50/50 odds Dan Johnson doesn't hit 3 homers in the major leagues in 2013.

The Miami Marlins thread
The Marlins think so highly of Ozzie Guillen's managerial ability, they are willing to pay him for 3 years to do nothing.

"Nobody Cares About the Sox"
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) The cta will have ahuttle busses as well as having the red line run on the green line tracks Actually before 91 or 92, the green line stop at 35th was actually the red line stop. They switched it up when the orange line came about.

Dan johnson
If you're going to take Dan Johnson's performance at the end as the barometer for how he would have performed most of the season, why don't we check out Viciedo's series vs. Cleveland. He's probably in line for the MVP next year.

222 K's
Dunn led the league in walks and hit 41 homers. How bad do the rest of your ABs have to be to have an .800 OPS? He was a .139 hitter in the 498 ABs he didn't hit a homer.

Steve Stone NOT leaving
If it is Hawk vs. Stone and one has to go, Stone is gone. I thought with the rumors, Steve's comment last night was a farewell, but now I'm thinking he wouldn't mind staying but the dynamics of the broadcast he feels must change. I think he wants it to be more of a conversation and the one thing I heard that stood out, he said if he has a different opinion Hawk sometimes takes it as a challenge to his baseball acumen rather than two different perspectives. In other words, I really don't think he hates Hawk like a ton of people would love him to say, I think he just wants to be a bigger part of the broadcast. I don't think Hawk's ego is as big as a lot of people think. He just has his opinions and like a lot of us on this board with our own opinions, thinks those opinions are pretty solid, and the slightest hint someone may not agree, makes him very defensive.

Worst collapse in franchise history?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Take the Royals and Tigers out of the equation and this team had a pretty great record. 73-53

Steve Stone NOT leaving
Tribune is saying he is expected to receive interest from multiple media outlets, but would need permission to bolt. He gone.

Game Thread: Game 162, final game of the season, WHITE SOX finish in C
If Dunn would have broken the strikeout record, would JR have presented him with another ring?

2012-2013 NBA thread
It looks like Boozer removed the shoe polish he had on top his head last season.

"Nobody Cares About the Sox"
QUOTE (Real @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) apparently you're either missing my point, or can't read. I was singling out in-town fans who have the best opportunity to easily get to games. People who live 300+ miles away have to spend a substantial amount more on gas or train tickets herp derp derp Since you want to call out others and use an excuse for yourself, why don't you buy a split season package and donate the tickets to a Boys and Girls Club or something like that?
-
"Nobody Cares About the Sox"
The Sox had lower attendance due to expectations and Dynamic Pricing. They lost a good portion of their season ticket base last offseason, which is the biggest cause of attendance drop. People played wait and see. That is very typical. They then try to buy tickets and they are ridiculously priced because they weren't purchased in February. Forget the dynamic deal discount, forget the Sox save of the week, people don't want to go through hoops to buy your product. Set a price and keep it there. Ironically, Ozzie mailing it in last year probably hurt the Sox attendance this year.

Worst collapse in franchise history?
Ozzie doesn't attract fans. Miami has a new park. Its still a sea of blue. The proof is in the pudding. Teams get worse when he manages, and most people are sick of his act.

Worst collapse in franchise history?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) Ozzie was one of the biggest factors in the "irrelevant" White Sox. If he is such an important part of getting people to the ball park, why did attendance fall the last five years he was here? With Ozzie here we lost close to a million fans a season, from the 2005 number. Kind of hard to argue with this fact.

Sox vs Indians game 161 thread
I'm guessing they are giving Dunn a shot at 100 RBI. I bet if he fans a couple of times, he gets yanked

RIP 2012
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Guess the games in April and May Sox blew did bite them in the ass. People at the time said oh well. Every game you win in April and May, when they supposedly don't mean anything, is one less you have to win in September.

2012 Cubs thread
Phil Rogers says despite their awfulness, the Cubs are on the right path. How can he say that at this point? Don't things actually have to develop to say the path is correct?

RIP 2012
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) It makes things look worse, sure, but it's also reality. So if Detroit wins the WS, do you suggest they give the trophy back because they had only the 7th best record in the AL? Why even bother with this stuff if it makes you so miserable?

RIP 2012
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Jose Quintna Hector Santiago Addison Reed Donnie Veal Nate Jones Alejandro De Aza Dayan Viciedo Adam Dunn Alex Rios Oh, and not having Joe Cowley around the team. Speaking of Cowley, has anyone noticed he's no longer a columnist for the Sun Times, but back to reporter? It hasn't been a good year for team Guillen/Cowley.

RIP 2012
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Last I checked they are the 8th best team in the AL. You really are miserable. The funny thing is you would be much happier if the Sox were the 14th best team in the AL.

RIP 2012
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) Outside of Chris Sale, what makes you feel good about this team's near future? The Sox, a team with zero expectations, were in first place most of the season and were in it until game 160. It's really pretty sad if you really are a White Sox fan and couldn't take any enjoyment out of it.

RIP 2012
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) I don't see how we can blame september on pitching. Short of getting a string of shutouts, when we were in the race and trying desperately not to lose, I couldn't help but look at the offense and wonder how we had gotten to this point. I feel like we rarely had a lead in the first 5 innings on ANY of the games in september. We were constantly shut out the first 5 innings and playing catch up. Our offense was just awful in september. De Aza, Dunn and Konerko all hurt and Youkilis beat up will do that to an offense. Its easy to say its a choke, especially after they score at will once its all over, but as was stated previously, the tank was at E. There aren't many teams that can play with their 1,2,3 and 4 hitters hurt and score consistently. The Sox were really beat up this year. Probably more beat up than any year I can remember.

RIP 2012
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) You were the level-headed guy, admonishing anyone who was on the ledge. Turns out you could not have been more wrong. No. The team is not the disaster some think it is.

RIP 2012
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) Overall, the Sox took half-measures to address their glaring weaknesses and it cost them postseason baseball. Time to rebuild. Says the guy who wanted Juan Pierre and Big Z. LMAO.
