The Official Thread for Joe Cowley and his Agenda.
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) I'm trying to make a point about America. Yes most businesses would be concerned about s*** like this I guess. My point is ... WTF? Joe is a columnist. He tweets, which the newspaper obviously wants him to do. His personality apparently is that of being a prick. He takes it to his twitter account. Aside from blasting that woman in the final tweet, which is TOO personal to do to a stranger, what did he do wrong aside from being a BAD STANDUP COMIC? He's not a stand up comic, he's a columnist. There is a line he cannot cross. He crossed it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) 1.) What do you mean hostile work environment? He was on a plane working. 2.) Yes but what I'm saying is he didn't tweet anything that would cause his firing or suspension. Calling flite attendants ugly and calling out the pilot for being a woman? He's a f***ing sportswriter. They travel ... a lot. They can fight back and call him an ugly motherf***er. It goes both ways. They have to treat him the same way the would treat a guy who works in the mailroom who said the same thing in the middle of the Sun Times office. Joe may have done himself in. Go figure.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) If Cowley is suspended that is stupid. He's a f***ing sportswriter. Sportswriter's travel a lot and have opinions. People who dissent can call him out and put their opinion on twitter as well. He calls flite attendants ugly? Big f***ing deal. They can come back and say passengers who sleep with their mouths open like sportswriters are uglier. He rips the female flight attendant? Why can't somebody just come back and call him sexist and make their point? Why should he be fired for bad humor??? If he threatens somebody's life and MEANS IT ... fine. he did notthing really wrong but represent himself like a sexist jerk. Those he offended can blast back, but fire him??? Grow up world. Hostile work environment.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) should we know who that is? No, but with Joe's view about women, considering he's married to the guy's daughter, it would be interesting to get his take.

I wonder what Joe's father in law thinks of his tweets.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Wow. I am shocked. Suspension I could believe. Firing? Wow. They might not have a choice. I'm sure their HR dept. has been talking to a Labor attorney. Giving Joe special treatment could cost them a lot of money.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Sun Times may be thrilled right now that people are actually busy caring about the Sun Times. It won't translate into more subscriptions and it may scare off an advertiser or 2. There is such a thing as bad publicity

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) Right, they absolutely hate that Cowley is breaking national news and the words Chicago Sun-Times are out there. This won't affect him one iota. The Twitter account will be back up in a week. Women who work at the ST might disagree with you and if you really think this will increase their subscription level I totally disagree. He is in trouble. Maybe not fired like he deserves but there will be something.u

Who Are the 2012 White Sox?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) Probably closer to $10 million if he's moved at the deadline, you're right, $12 million would be moved mid-July. He gets $17 million this year, which translates to about $3 million a month. Then, there's a $4 million buyout paid by whichever team he's on at the end of the season when they decide not to pick up his option. Pick him up end of July, and you're paying him $10-$12 million, give or take the exact day. $750k a start is a reasonable estimate. No matter what the Sox will have to eat money and get a fake prospcect or two in return unless maybe they take a halfway decent player back making a decent amount of money.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) When it comes to writing about the Sox, Cowley is rock solid. All the other stuff, I do not give one damn about. He was rock solid or at least solid with most things White Sox, but that stopped when he he became Ozzie's PR director. The problem is he had all the other stuff going on. He thinks he's a comedian. He's a buffoon and he just proved it beyond a reasonable doubt.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) I can't believe so many people don't recognize that it's an act. Well, the "act" might have just cost him his career. If it is an act, Joe may have realized it too late, "bra". They have links to his twitter on the Suntimes website. For some reason I really doubt his bosses appreciate the "act" he had today.

Predict April
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 11:13 AM) 11-11 Another genius. Too bad you don't seem to be as good at Powerball. This is the winner though, wite had .500 but there could have been mulitple rainouts. Hickory got the record right on.

Oney is sticking up for Cowley saying he doesn't understand why people get worked up about words. Pot. Kettle. Black. Unless Joe can prove he didn't tweet these, he's in a lot of trouble. Maybe find a new line of work trouble. Joe's showing why some people are better off staying in their mom's basement.

I wonder how the Sun Times can justify keeping him around, but then again, its the Sun Times. Joe always thinks he's the funniest guy in the room. Unfortunately he is usually wrong. At the very least we are going to get an apology from him. Hopefully full of tears, saying he didn't mean it. He is beyond an idiot. I wonder if he's telling his bosses to give him what he thought the Marlins should give Ozzie, a phantom fine, a big apology and let it blow over.

Pale Hose vs. Carmines 4/29/2012
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) At least we don't have to watch Beckham's pathetic attempts to hit. But without Konerko in the lineup, they probably lose again. No, you get to watch Escobar's and Lillibridge's pathetic attempts to hit.

Wrapping Up April
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) A little over 20k on a Saturday night vs Boston is shocking to me. That had to be lower than even the most pessimistic projections could have predicted They have a much smaller season ticket base. I cancelled myself, and its 35 degrees. I think the dynamic pricing, especially in April when people want to take a wait and see approach with the weather, hurts them. Going on ticketmaster the day of the game, unless you just don't care, the prices are insane.

Wrapping Up April
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) Sure, but the opposite can be said for Sale and certainly Peavy, Konerko, and A.J. Right, but Konerko still looks like a .300 30 homer guy. AJ will do what he always does. Sale is a question mark, although I think his main question is going to be fatique. Danks will certainly improve. They basically look like a .500 team. It could fall apart and they could be bad, or they could get on a role and have a shot. Unlike last season, there's still reason to pay attention from a baseball standpoint.

Wrapping Up April
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) Positives - Sale and Reed have exceeded expectations. - Peavy was the ace he was acquired to be. - Dunn and Rios have been solid contributors. - Konerko - In Birmingham, Mitchell might be back on track to being impact player. - Sox didn't lose division in April Negatives - Danks was worst starter after signing $65M deal in offseason - Best SP, Peavy, most assuredly won't be back in 2013. - Hitters under the age of 30 put up a composite line of .208/.256/.311. Amazingly struck out 92 times as opposed to having 97 total bases. - In Birmingham, Nestor Molina has pitched more like a middle-of-the-rotation starter than a top-of-the-rotation one. - 3-7 home record (through Saturday), soft attendance. Positive- team has 3 players hitting .250 and is one game out of first place. As much as anyone can hate Beckham and Morel, and maybe even Viciedo, there is no way they aren't going to improve their current performance.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
Baron Davis tore his ACL in college yet still recovered enough to become the 3rd overall pick in the draft and have an nice 13 year career. DRose wasn't 100% all season and many who now think if he comes back at anything less will make the Bulls non contenders for a title weren't feeling that way 24 hours ago when he couldn't have been more than 80-85%. In Davis's two years at UCLA, he averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 assists for the Bruins. While coming down from a dunk during an NCAA Tournament game his freshman year, he injured his knee and tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Surprisingly, though, he made a full recovery the next season and seemed to have regained nearly all of the speed, quickness, and explosiveness he had before the injury while doing enough on the basketball court to warrant his declaring for the 1999 NBA Draft after his sophomore campaign.[3]

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) The biggest problem will be if he doesn't have the same attitude on the court because he is nervous about his knee. That usually fades pretty quickly. The biggest fear I have is all the injuries he had. Why would this surgery put an end to them all? I hope he comes back and never has another one, but I would think the odds are in favor of him having numerous injuries the rest of his career. It was interesting some trainers were blaming his previous injuries on a lack of stretching. Supposedly DRose stretches very little. The interesting part to me was the trainer said he had to find a happy medium (I always thought stretching was good and never could be too stretched out). Apparently you need some stiffness for explosion.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
I watched an interview with a doctor at U of Chicago. He thinks there's a good chance Rose will be back if not at the level he was at physically, close, although he did caution it would probably take about a year to get to that level. We have to remember he had 6 injuries this year and when he played he was usually pretty good, good enough that many thought the Bulls would win the title. He was nowhere near 100%. There's always fear with the surgery but guys like Edgerin James came back fine. I think Rose will too. He's young, he's strong and he's not a big guy. If he was 275 pounds it might be a different story.
