  1. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Lol. We now have the same amount of wins as the *gasp* Royals. Sad. Sad. Worst team in the AL and plummetting! Make no mistake about it, the Royals have a good ballclub.
  2. How many more times is Ozzie going to say that if the players think losing is OK they are playing for the wrong GM and wrong manager, before the GM and manager actually do something about it?
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) Bill James screwed Dick Allen out of making the HOF. Bill James is mean. That rat bastard. I have my speech prepared, but its useless now.
  4. Javy struck out 8 in 6 innings. Man, he's good. Only gave up 5 runs. I'm glad the Sox gave him an immovable contract through 2010.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) I've been at the games the last 2 days in Cincinnati, and have seen Dunn a ton since he came up. I am completely in on dealing for him, he's basically Jim Thome without the batting average at the plate and we need outfield help. The problem with Dunn is he is also basically Jim Thome in the OF, and his option is null and void if traded. He's basically a rental. If KW wants to acquire him for some B level prospects, its probably worth going for.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) So then you are backing me up on this idea - a fan that reads a couple of scouting reports knows very little if anything about a player, but a couple of organizations that see him as a starting 2B in 08 knows more - correct? Or - I'm sorry - maybe you have actually seen this guy play a lot in person and you are making your judgement on what you actually have seen in him. First - I never heard anyone say he would be tearing up the AL. SEcond I never heard anyone say Owens was anything more than a 4th OF at best. Third- Willie Harris was supposed to be a regular? I never heard that - ever. Fourth - I have heard many changes in age that affect the way an organization looks at a player. That happens. Plus who said I wanted or that KW wanted the line-up to be filled with rookies? If you look at my previous posts in any thread you would know that this is definitely not what I want - I can't speak for KW. I would bet the White Sox are planning on using him as Iguchi's replacement in 08. Speculation, opinion - yes - just as is yours. You never heard that Willie Harris was supposed to be a regular? How long have you been following the White Sox? He actually was a regular for a little while.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) His scouting report seemed to think he would be the replacement next year for Hudson. So I'm guessing he is not Ozuna like and that he would be starting in 08. The report also stated that he would be in the majors in 08, but most likely not with the Diamondbacks if they move Upton to 2B. If 2 organizations think he will be a starter in 08 I think they would know more than, say, a fan that read a scouting report or 2. Just a hunch. classic What was the scouting report on Brian Anderson? Wasn't he supposed to be starting in CF tearing up the AL? Wasn't the scouting report on Jerry Owens a couple of years ago saying he should be in someone's OF in 2007? Wasn't Willie Harris supposed to be a regular say 4 or 5 years ago? You also should read the old scouting reports on Pablo Ozuna. He was once ranked as one of the best prospects in baseball, until they found out he was a few years older than they thought. If KW is truely "going for it" like he constantly says, a line-up filled with rookies isn't going to work. Maybe the guy does start his rookie year when he's 25, but he ain't that great. Who are the 2 organizations that think he'll be a starter in 2008? You just said it most likely wouldn't be the Diamondbacks, and I have yet to hear KW's take on him?
  8. Forgive me for not being too excited about a 24 year old putting up decent numbers in the PCL. I'm guessing KW is hoping this guy can be Pablo Ozuna- like, I'd be shocked if he's counting on him being a regular as soon as next season.
  9. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) I think North is a fool for even sugggesting the sox are laying down and not trying. Yeah that's it Mikey. The Sox don't care and everyone of them said: 'Screw winning or losing, screw the money I can make if I pitch well, I'm going to go out there and not try' That's exactly what's happening, right? North is an idiot for even going in that direction. I hope he takes Imus' job so I can listen to WSCR in the mornings. Bob Ozzie hinted the players were laying down.
  10. I think you could use the Freddy Garcia trade as a measuring stick. Reed was highly thought of, as was Olivo who also was playing decently on the major league level, and Morse was a decent prospect. Buerhle has to be considered better than Garcia, so KW should get a little better package than that.
  11. If he was getting called up to AAA, would they pull him from a start? I could see if it were to the majors, but why screw up his pattern?
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) I don't think it has anything to due with "caring". Maybe a little bit, I guess, but this is just a mediocre team. We're starting bench players at two outfield spots, not to mention a SS who is hitting around .200. As of yesterday our bullpen contained to AAA pitchers in Prinz and Bukvich. Combine all that with the fact that the "big boppers" on offense are all (except Thome) having 10th percentile type years, and vwala! But those AAA pitchers have been replaced by 2 other AAA pitchers. The bullpen is so bad its now funny. If anyone should be fired, its not Walker or Cooper or Ozzie, its Kenny Williams. I was working out watching the game and I hear Hawk whining again on the loss of the Sox "speed guys" in Pods and Erstad. First of all Pods SB percentage since the ASB of 2005 is piss poor, and Erstad is coming off ankle surgery. The odds of either one making it through an entire season healthy are pretty small, and the odds both of them make it through probably don't even exist. The bullpen was built on the cheap. Its far less paid than the 2005 bullpen when the payroll was about 40 million less. Its a flawed roster. Andy Gonzalez playing LF? Shocking Joe Crede is hurt, isn't it? Who could have possibly seen that coming? The injuries the Sox have had were very predictable, so that cannot be used as an excuse. Its a badly constructed roster. It needs to be fixed one way or another pronto.
  13. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) Hey, their ERAs in Charlotte were 1.09, 1.31 and 1.36...or something like that...that always translates to major league success, right? Yeah, Prinz 0.56 ERA did him well in Chicago.
  14. Day sucks, AAArdsma sucks, the Sox suck, no big deal.
  15. Eddie Murray has been removed as a coach from a couple of places. I'm pretty sure organizations have a problem with him being a miserable mope.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Kalapse, you think attendance will be "moderately higher" than last year? I was under the impression that attendance will go down and has been, but I don't know, so let me know. It has to be lower this year than last. Even the Yankees couldn't sell it out. It will still be good though. The question is what happens in the future. Brooks will have his work cut out for him if the losing continues.
  17. The Sox bullpen needs Man Soo back. What is it exactly that Art Kusyner does?
  18. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) Well, McCarthy, who blew ass, Why do you make this statement? You do realize as bad as McCarthy supposedly was last year, Danks gives up more hits, more walks per inning and has just a slightly lower home run allowed rate than McCarthy did last year. I still don't understand how this site has McCarthy one of the worst pitchers to ever put on a uniform and Danks in the Hall of Fame at this point.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) My mistake. But it doesn't change the fact that Anderson can't hit major-league pitching. You're right. I misrepresented data on purpose. :oldrolleyes You crack me up. Anderson struck out in a full 1/4 of his at-bats last season, he only drew 30 walks, his average is laughably low, he doesn't really hit for power either, and he can't steal bases. But he was supposedly a better option than Erstad at the beginning of the season? On a team that was supposed to be competitive? LOL. I have no problem with people criticizing KW for signing a cheap, broken-down Erstad instead of a more reliable veteran. I have no problem with people criticizing Ozzie for playing Erstad in CF and not using Anderson there as a defensive replacement. But at this point of his career, Anderson is worthless outside of his defense. Absolutely worthless. And I'm glad that he's back in the minors right now because that's where he belongs. If you're going by last year's stats to rip on Anderson, you really have a weak argument if the counterpoint is Erstad. Wasn't his average lower than Anderson's last year. I do think a lot of people make way too much of the 90 wins last season. First off, it was good for 3rd place. Secondly, they were 10 over .500 against the NL which was clearly a weaker league last season, WS win or not. As bad as you think Anderson is or was offensively last season, remember in spring training when Ozzie said he didn't care what he hit, only that he played good defense? Its interesting that Anderson's OBP was .002 lower and his slugging % was .001 higher than Ozzie's when Ozzie was a rookie and named rookie of the year. If he can't play, than neither could Ozzie.
  20. He was in the dugout in Philadelphia.
  21. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) I just don't get it. How a team that is tied for first place in their division can realize that their hitting coach just wasn't getting the job done, although they are in first. Meanwhile our GM let's a guy keep his job even though we have the worst offense in all the Majors. Someone has to be held accountable. Sure I would like the players to be held accountable, but in reality that isn't gonna happen. When you have the Sox record, it more than just the hitting coach not getting the job done. Why is it you give Ozzie, KW and Cooper a pass?
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) You can turn it into whatever you want to turn it into, but to say that injuries haven't hurt this team is just wrong. But most of the injuries should have been expected, no? Pods and Erstad are pretty much always hurt. Thome has been banged up each of the past several years. Crede's back shouldn't be a shock to anyone. We laughed at the Cubs counting on Wood and Prior all this time, KW is just as guilty now IMO. I don't see Cleveland crying about Lee and Westbrook being out. Or Detroit with Zumaya and Rogers. They get guys to step up.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) ? By no means will KW have a firesale. It's not in him, it's not like him to do it. It just won't happen while Williams is GM. Maybe the hitting does heat up, but with our luck, the starting pitching will go down the s***ter. He's had them before. Not the magnitude of what it would and should be this season though. For the team's future, he's got to do it. There are too many holes, too little time, and too many good teams they would have to pass to consider it realistic the Sox have a decent shot at the playoffs.
  24. If I'm JR, I'm thinking long and hard before ever giving KW $100 million to play with. The bullpen is a total disaster and the company line is blaming injuries on chronically hurt cheap players as the reason the team is struggling.
  25. I'm looking forward to the Sox surge in late August and September to get near .500 and convince Ozzie and KW that a lot of these guys are good, so we can be mired in mediocrity for a long time. Hey KW, this isn't working. Change something. Anything at this point.
