Seanez got DFA'd by Boston. According to Gammons, that was the guy the White Sox wanted for Lopez, but settled for Riske. I doubt Theo would trade him to Chicago right now, but look for KW to sign this guy to a minor league deal next winter with an invite to ST. Unless he needs arm surgery of course.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Then we're done. We're not gonna hit our way to the playoffs. Even if we do, will get knocked out in round 1. The pitching has to get better. You're right. If the pitching continues like this, even if the playoffs are made, its going to be a quick exit.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) We increased our payroll a ton this year. It might be the one thing I can't find anything to complain about. That's right. You can't call the White Sox cheap anymore, not that it was really fair to call them cheap before.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) Are there any figures available on how much, if anything, the team made on sales of LDS, LCS and World Series merchandise last year? If it was substantial, wouldnt that have warranted some deadline activity? Ticket prices are rising significantly in 2007 and people will be locked in with how they wisely put together the postseason ticket policy. They will have a lot of money to work with next season. They will throw it into the team.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) A trade deadline Yankees get Abreu-get hot Dodgers get Maddux-get hot We get nothing-thats 17-22 folks It would be explainable if we were good at the deadline Lidle was a huge pick up for the Bronx Bombers. He's a journeyman who pitches pretty well when he has a lot of runs to work with.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Did anyone see what type of reaction Rowand got when he came to bat tonight at Wrigley? Isn't it funny that this comment actually makes me giddy? Rowand's OBP is only .023 higher than Anderson's.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) My two biggest fears are Thome and/or Contreras needing major surgery after this year. I sure hope JR has paid his insurance premiums.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Jose's ERA at 4.04 now. This has got to be some kinda record. How does every returning starter from a World Series championship team come back worse the following year? And we can't even pla the injury card. If they don't make the playoffs, I think we will be hearing about numerous non-reported injuries.

QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) Dude, I saw an astonishing stat on AJ. He's thrown out only 18% of baserunners trying to steal.....and there have been 84 attempts on him. Maybe it's AJ, but that's Cooper's job to cut that crap down and TEACH his pitchers how to hold runners better. Contreras and Garcia, its an automatic SB. Buerhle picks guys off or they don't run. The only shot AJ gets is Garland and Vazquez. His 18%, all things considered, including his puss arm, is actually pretty good.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) but...but...but...remember last offseason when some said a team would SURELY overpay for one of our starters near the July trading deadline!!!! That teams overpay for starters midseason!!!! That didn't work out well, either. It may turn out after this season concludes the worst move Williams made wasn't standing pat with our roster, but failing to move McCarthy into the rotation. I think you're right. Trade a dissappointing starter at the deadline for a piece you need, and throw McCarthy into the rotation, at worst the rotation is a wash, and you improve your team. Best case, McCarthy shines and you get some help, ie Soriano.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Have you watched the Red Sox lately? Even Schilling is getting lit up. They have an awful pitching staff. I heard something that a big rift between Epstein and Lucciano was Epstein thought of this season as more of a rebuilding one, he didn't think the Red Sox had the horses to win. He wanted to take a small step back in 2006 and set them up for 2007. Lucciano or whatever his name is wanted to show the fans they wanted to win this year. They might still win the WC, but with that staff, they will not win the WS. Its impossible to hit enough to overcome that.

Ballgame. Hit one down the LF line with Pods out there and Ron Santo scores from first.

Its incredible to me the starters don't have more success. Over the years, even bad starters throw a gem every now and then.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) I believe 100% that this would've been a huge shot in the arm for this team. I think Vazquez, in particular, robs this team of energy every time he goes out there. He's still out there because of the money he's earning, plain and simple. Tell me how that sends a good message. I agree. If Vazquez or any of Garcia or even Buerhle were making $2-3 million a year, McCarthy would have gotten a shot, and one of them would be in the bullpen.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) We could have actually gotten rid of some of the dead weight on our roster and given McCarthy a shot. Ozzie doesn't think he's any good. Considering who Ozzie does think is good, that is a major insult.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) Can somebody again tell me why Coop and Jose felt the need to mess around with new arm angles when he was already dominating? Coop was fixing him before he was broken. This is a new, more efficient strategy.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) I honestly think it's debatable if Pods even has great speed now. He's lost two steps, in my opinion. If Pods falls to a 20-25 SB a year guy, he's selling insurance.
-
Game thread Sox(73-50) at Detroit(79-45)
Please don't let this guy score. A lot of White Sox pitcher's HBP victims seem to score.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) For those not watching, could Pods have beat the play at first if he had more speed? No, but he could have made it closer, and if he had a reputation of running hard, he could cause a bobble once in a while.

I'd like to see Pods run as hard to firstbase as he does running into the dugout from the outfield.
