White Sox @ Twins
QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 14, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) 99. Cmon BObby. Hasn't been easy for anybody tonight. They had Cotts at 95. The gun is inflated tonight.

I think I would have stuck with Cotts here.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ May 14, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) f*** YOU COMCAST...Just read in the paper that Comcast didnt renew Pat Foley, the BEST announcer in all sports, and Foley will now be radio only as they search for a new TV guy...again, f*** YOU COMCAST!!!! They are doing away with the simulcast, which actually is a smart move. Every sport, especially hockey is called differently on TV and the radio. Since the Hawks don't televise home games, the play by play guy on TV will only work half a season. Foley will be better on radio only. Turn down the volume of the TV and turn on the radio. It will work out for you. BTW, I've dealt with Foley a few times, and he's pretty much a jackass.

QUOTE(rventura23 @ May 14, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) inning over just joining, cant believe Buehrle gave up 7R but 1ER Part of the problem was he threw one into CF, then Uribe booted one. Both would have been DPs and both happened before there was even 1 out. It was bizarre, like watching a Pony League game.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 14, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Agreed. It was great to get Buehrle to the 7th with that kind of start. Let the bullpen take care of this. GREAT recovery by Mark! Nice recovery by Buerhle, and nice of the offense to pick him up.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Its sad when a team that has a hard time scoring runs, puts up over 8 runs 2 days in a row. The Angels put up 12 the other night, 6 in the ninth.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Hopefully this is a f***ing wake up call. One of the worst offenses in baseball just put up a s*** load of runs in 2 days. Our Offense can get shut down by Johan. That is just mathmatics. But Radke has been meat this year. I think the Sox have allowed 29 runs the last 3 games, and there's a duck on the pond and meat on the mound. Tomorrow they will win.

Hawk needs to quit crying about the umpiring. It wasn't good, although there is no way you could tell if Paulie had his foot on the bag on the one play, I was freeze framing it with TIVO, there is nothing definitive, and Paulie tagging him gives the impression he didn't think he was on the bag. The second one was a swing, but it was missed. I recall the White Sox benefitting greatly from missed calls in the playoffs and WS last season.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ May 13, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) I agree with you. Don't worry about the Tigers, there is no way they will be able to keep up at the pace there at all season. I remember back in 1975 I think it was, the Tigers were in first place at the all star break then finished in last place. They'll fade. If their pitching holds up, they will be there, and their owner is dying to spend lots of money, so look for some reinforcements if they are close at the deadline.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 13, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) I hate watching Liriano when he's mowing down our hitters. Aside from that, I enjoy watching talented pitchers pitch. I'll stop complaining when our organization producers or trades for a pitcher comparable to Liriano. It's that simple. He looks like the second coming of Santana. Could we trade AJ for Liriano and Nathan?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 13, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) And, as everybody knows, that worked out just fantastic now, didn't it (leaving Cotts out of the equation for just a moment)? Before making any moves, I'd like to see a couple of our AAA arms given a shot to succeed -- Tracey, Lopez, and Nelson. I'm willing to bet we'd 'hit it lucky' on at least one of those guys... Lopez sucks, Tracey may have a nice future, but he had a shot at a bullpen job this spring and was horrible is spring training. Nelson will most likely be with the Sox, but as I posted before, no one exactly knocked his door down after St.Louis released him after what appears to be an impressive spring. He is nasty on right handed batters, but lefties rake. As long as he's not hurt, I think KW should think about Brad Lidge. He just lost his closer's role, and makes around $4 million. Its very possible he's available, and a change of scenery may be just what he needs.

Garland
I believe Garland is making around $7 million this year, which is right around or a little below what his arbitration number would have been. He makes $22 million total the next 2 seasons. If he's the pre-2005 Garland in 2006, its going to be very difficult trading him. He was great last year, but even JR has said last year is in the past. This is a guy who has been very hittable from the last couple of weeks of spring training on. Widger mentioned earlier in the year that he had a sore shoulder, and nobody picked up on that. I don't know if its still bothering him. A lot of people were putting the blame on his mediocrity before on Jerry Manuel, and of course Ozzie was getting a lot of credit for his success last season. It was never Manuel's fault Garland got lit up often, just as its not Ozzie's fault he's getting hit hard this season. He's a #4 or #5 guy who had everything fall into place for himself last season. If his control is off, like Buerhle he will get hit, especially if his sinker isn't working, which it hasn't much this year. His control is off more than Buerhle's. As long as he's not injured, he will still have some good games, he always has, but they won't be as frequent as last season.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) hopefully i'm not misunderstanding your point, but it sounds like you are saying something like 'because we won the series, our organization as a whole is in great shape" just ask the Marlins how that works out. i mean, we have put a lot into winning now, and that has meant getting close to decimating the farm system. you of course realize this, no? I won't speak for him, but I don't think that's what he meant. The White Sox situation is totally different from the Marlins. The Sox minor leagues have been overrated for years, and that has actually helped KW, because he has been able to move some of these guys that have or will amount to nothing and get usable parts in return. It remains to be seen what Gio and Young turn out to be. They may be eventually be stars but if Vazquez and Thome lead the Sox to another WS, the price would be well worth it. The fact remains though, there just aren't any pitchers in the Sox minor league system right now that the organization could have any confidence in getting major league hitters out, I not counting Nelson, and the current White Sox bullpen needs another 1 or 2 of those guys. Its interesting that Lidge has been removed as the Astros closer. I wonder if his problem is mental or physical.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) The fact that we are world champs and off to another great start speaks volumes about the Sox organization. Yes it does, but they are winning differently than last year, in a style that's not built for the long haul. The offense and starting pitching (for the most part) have been outstanding. The only real trouble spot is the bullpen. I'm sure KW will do something about it.

The fact that we are pining for Nelson, a guy no team seemed very interested in after he was released by the Cardinals, speaks volumes about the Sox bullpen and farm system.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) Why is it I feel like the bullpen is so much better than those numbers? Aside from Logan and Mitsubishi, I think everone on that list is below where they'll finish up this seaosn. You're probably right, but it remains to be seen how much lower.

White Sox at Twinkies 5/12
For the Sox to win tonight, Garland would probably have had to pitch a shutout. The way he's throwing, it would be hard to imagine him shuting out an Independent League team right now.

White Sox at Twinkies 5/12
BP ERA's McCarthy 5.21 Jenks 5.52 Cotts 3.14 Politte 6.17 Logan 3.38 Thornton 7.04 Montero 5.40 We all know as well as KW that winning will not continue if these don't improve. I expect KW is working frantically on fixing this. Of course, the bullpen had nothing to do with tonight's loss. Beating Santana is tough.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) It looks like Ozzie is letting Garland take his lumps either that or resting the bullpen. Oh well, can't win em all. The Sox have no chance as long as Santana remains in the game, and not much of a chance if they go to the bullpen. Ozzie should just give the bullpen another day of rest and let Montero get lit up until the game is over.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) SSH, righties are batting over 300 against Javy in Charlotte....so you've got that. Batters are hitting below .140 against Tracey..... I really like Tracey, I was really disapointed in his spring training performance.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) Its been .2 innings. He's been in the minors 9 years without sniffing the major leagues. Sometimes you don't have to see much to see its not going to work out. Montero sucks, there is no doubt about that. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) He's been kicking ass at Charlotte. Winning down there can carry up. When's the last time the Sox brought a pitcher up from Charlotte during the season who did anything postive?
-
White Sox at Twinkies 5/12
They should just release Montero. Seriously, why keep this guy around, unless you really need him at Charlotte. He can't pitch in the major leagues effectively.
