  1. What are the chances that if Contreras was out for a prolonged period, that McCarthy goes into the rotation and Haeger goes to the bullpen? With his knuckler, he'd be able to go multiple innings, and be able to pitch more often than just about anyone on the staff.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) BTW, did the radio reports happen to state anything about structural issues regarding the hip? No but someone on WSI posted last night about Contreras limping off the field terribly before yesterday's game after playing long toss. I guess he was with his kids waiting in an autograph line and saw him limping. Someone in line said he jumped for a ball and when he landed he was hurt. Its very possible he hurt in throwing on the side Saturday as has been reported, but thought it was fine, only to aggrevate it Sunday. The guy who posted this posted it last night so I'm betting he is telling the truth.
  3. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Did anyone listen to the game on the radio on Thursday? If I remember correclty, Singleton said something like they (I would assume Ozzie and Herm) were yelling to see if Jose was ok and he shook them off like he was fine. After this little 5 second blip, I heard nothing more. Does anyone else remember hearing this? He looked gimpy running towards first one time last Thursday.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) In all seriousness, we should all be thankful it's Haeger who got promoted, and not Redding. Unless you have tickets in the OF, and are looking for a souvenir.
  5. QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Sucks, but glad it is his hip and not his back, elbow or shoulder. Its a little disconcerning that the injury appears severe enough to DL him. Hips can be huge problems. Its what led to Britt Burns' demise. He won 15 games in 1985, was traded to NY. Hip problems surfaced in spring training, and he never threw another pitch in the major leagues.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Why the hell are we starting some knuckleballer with no experience rather than B-Mac, especially with today being a day off?!? McCarthy pitched Sat. and Sunday. His arm would need to be stretched out probably, so he probably couldn't go more than 4 or 5 innings, and considering he is the main guy in the bullpen who can pitch multiple innings, it could be a huge problem. This is the right move considering how Haeger has been pitching. Does anyone know if tommorrow is Haeger's regular day to pitch? It probably doesn't make much difference with a knuckleballer, but it has been an issue with guys called up before.
  7. Score says he has a sore hip, had an MRI, and might go on DL.
  8. In Frank Thomas' last career 210 ABs, he's hitting under .200. Frank Thomas under the Mendoza line for over 200 ABs is something I don't think anyone would ever envision seeing. I guess he really is in his prime.
  9. Its amazing to me the total pass White Sox fans give to Jenks when he is horrible. If it were Marte, or any other White Sox reliever who ever lived who came in with a runner on first and no outs, and allowed that runner to score, while allowing 3 more runs, he would have been crucified. With Jenks, its Ozzie blew the game by not having him start the inning. Someone please explain why Jenks, who was so bad he couldn't even finish the inning, would have performed better and got the save if Thornton didn't pitch to the leadoff man. And if coming in with a runner on first is so tough, then why have other Sox relievers been blasted when they allow these runs to score?
  10. Jenks was horrible last night. I don't see where starting the inning would have made him any better, and I don't see where having a runner on base should make any difference in how he pitches. He came into the game in the 8th inning with a guy on base in the playoffs and WS IIRC last year. He just had a bad night. It happens. Unfortunately his night was so bad he allowed his inherited runner to score, and 3 more. I disagree with Ozzie's moves from time to time, but not last night. I don't see where having Jenks start the 9th inning would have made any difference. He was awful.
  11. I wonder if Sanders is playing for KC tonight. He left yesterday with a minor injury. Without him or Sweeney, Garland should be able to lower his bloated ERA.
  12. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 5, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) In Damaso's last 7 appearances (6 2/3 innings pitched), he has a 0.00 ERA, 9 Ks, 1 BB, and 3 hits allowed. He's on one of his little hot streaks. If his head is right, he is one of the most dominant relievers in the game. I am one of the few that really hated to see him go, but I think Mack will be a good player for the Sox. Marte did get a WS win.
  13. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 5, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) LOL, so you probably long for the days of Thomas/Ordonez/Lee/Konerko, yeah? You enjoy watching us get shut out by some rookie, or some dude like Joe f***ing Mays? Not me. I like to be in every single game. It's called conservatism, not an all-or-nothing style of offense that you support. I think you're a great poster for the most part, but you gotta kick this bulls*** philosophy to the curb. Ordonez and Lee were far from all-or-nothing offensive players. If the pitching in 2003 was as good as the pitching in 2005, the Sox would have had a great chance at a WS title then.
  14. Homeruns were a huge part of the offense last season. I think the Sox will run more, but really the only guy in the line-up who consistently will run is Pods, and despite his 4 steal game against Cleveland, he is not running at 100%. As long as they get good pitching, it really doesn't matter what the offense is based on, just as long as they score a few runs. I like this year's line-up's chances of scoring runs much better than last year's model.
  15. left handed batters rake Nelson. Its a no risk move bringing him in, but I really don't see him replacing any of the current bullpen members, unless Logan and/or Thornton really get knocked around soon. I think he would fill in for an injury or take the spot of Gload. Either that, or he'll pitch a couple of months in Charlotte, and then go home or to a different organization.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Um, no he's not. This would have been his first Arbitration-eligible year had he not been under contract. As far as I can tell we should still have him through the end of 08. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox traded him or non-tendered him this coming off season. It will be interesting to see the real value the Sox place on Pod's style of play, because he's about to get expensive.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) With those kind of numbers, why didn't anyone sign him sooner? Is he hurt? That's a good question. He does have a reputation for being an ass, and is basically a ROOGY at this point. I wonder if BMac's recent struggles and/or Thornton's questionable back pushed KW into the signing. It was nice to see Politte hit 96 yesterday. Nelson does have a better chance to contribute than the minor league trash that was signed in the winter.
  18. Nelson will be going to extended spring training.
  19. Sox signed Jeff Nelson
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 2, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) Im pretty sure he called it "coming home" because he is from Peoria. I understand that, but Peoria isn't exactly a Chicago suburb, and Thome still has a home in Cleveland.
  21. I think he already has blown any chance to duplicate his stats from last season, but it probably wasn't very realistic to think he would be able to match that again. He obviously still has ability, but if his control is off a bit, he's extremely hittable. I think he can bounce back and still be effective this season, and I think with his salary bouncing up a couple of million for next, he's KW's #1 poker chip next offseason. IMO, if he's tradeable next offseason, he's gone.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) I have a feeling Frank is going to get booed big time. And it will suck. Terribly. Frank was occassionally booed when he PLAYED for the White Sox.
  23. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Cleveland can't get more than 17.000 in the first appearance by the defending champs and the homecoming of Jim Thome, they suck Considering its a team that came off of a 93 win season, and sold out 5 1/2 years straight, I agree, the attendance was surprisingly low. As to booing Thome, the Indians wound up offering him over $60 million, and while Philadelphia's offer blew that away, I'm sure the fans felt jilted, just as White Sox fans were upset when Magglio left. It probably didn't help their feelings when Thome was traded to the White Sox, perhaps Cleveland's biggest rival, and he basically called it coming "home". They have a right to boo whether its appropriate or not. I'm sure it didn't affect Thome either way.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) By the way, if there's 1 place out there right now that can be useful to a base stealer trying to find his rhythm...it's Cleveland. Victor Martinez hasn't thrown out a base stealer all year. Pods better be off to the races in this series. Dye, Anderson, Cintron, Iguchi, Pablo too. Those Cleveland Pitchers have done nothing to hold people close, and Martinez just doesn't seem to be throwing well at all. I think he had 4 in a game there last year. If he gets on and Martinez throws him out, it may be time to think about a new leadoff man
  25. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Any reason they pulled Mack for BA? Mack went to RF, Dye is out, and they don't know why yet.
