  1. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) are you kidding me? 5,000 a month since 97 is not enough to buy that ? Let's do the math here..... 5,000 month = 60,000 a year = 480,000 over the last 8 years. I don't entirely feel sorry for the girl. I agree she should meet her sisters. But damn, they are probably just after more money. Johnson is the one suing for money. I thought one of the responsibilities for being a parent was to provide the best life you can for your child, which to me would include more than cutting a check. While the money total may be a nice total for a regular middle class family, the fact remains the mother easily could have received more money if that was her goal. She didn't even get anything until the child was 9 or 10 years old. What kind of horrible man must you be if you have a daughter who is 16, have visitation rights and the means to do whatever you want for her, and you wouldn't be even to recognize her if she stood right in front of you? What kind of creep refuses to answer his young daughter's continuous requests at a meeting? Life is tough enough for young kids these days without having to deal with your father acting as if you don't exist. Randy Johnson is a great pitcher, but he is a pathetic man.
  2. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) Because as bad as it is - it's still legal. I quit about a year and a half ago. I never realized how bad smoke smelled until now. Wow! I don't like this. Smokers have a legal right to smoke, in my opinion. Just like I have a right to drink, eat a brat with extra onions that stinks to high hell, or burp and fart. I just have a problem with this constant war against people doing a perfectly legal thing. Addiction is a disease, right? AIDS is a disease. Diabetes is a disease. Why is it OK to humiliate smokers, but feel sympathy for people with other diseases? Where's the ACLU for smokers? Can smokers use the Americans with Disabilities Act? Just my $0.02 There was an ordinance passed in the City of Chicago a couple of years ago that required cab drivers to not stink. As far as I know it is not illegal to not use deodorant. It is also not against any law to go several days without showering. Smokers should have been outraged that government was taking cab drivers rights to stink in their cabs away from them, but smokers agreed with the ordinance. I don't want to smell cigarettes when I'm watching a game, and don't want to stink like an ashtray went I get home. The overwhelming majority of people in the park don't want to either. Smokers can still smoke, just in the designated areas. Your right to smoke is in no way being violated.
  3. I am a non smoker and like this new policy. Smokers can still smoke, just out on designated ramps, or smokers can do their bodies a favor and abstain for 3 hours. One thing I don't understand, and don't get me wrong, I don't think being a smoker makes you a bad person, but smokers with young children, at least the couple that I know, never smoke in their house, or want to subject their little ones to second hand smoke. But when it comes to an arena or public place, it seems to be just fine with them to subject other's little ones and adults to their second hand smoke. Why is it fine with them to go have to go out on the porch to smoke at their own homes, but it is asking way too much and is totally unfair if that same policy is used at a public place? And why do smokers usually claim there is no evidence secondhand smoke kills, but do their best not to subject their kids to it?
  4. QUOTE(joeynach @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) Does anyone know the status of the new Scout Seat restaurant and lounge that was supposed to be built. Obviously it wasn't completed for last year cuz they used that stupid tent outside in front of home plate that looks like the same one my mom rented for my high school graduation party. I thought it was supposed to be in place by now?? Man that tent is hideous and looks really out of place right in front of the park. I believe it is built and should be ready for opening night.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) Nice baserunning, AJ. He gets doubled up off of first base. Inning over. I know its late in spring training, and these guys may be bored, but this is exactly the type of s*** that shouldn't happen.
  6. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) I hope Cintron isn't hurt. Maybe he got traded
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) Alex Cintron is already out of the game? Chris Getz is pinch-hitting for him. Hawk didn't know who Getz was. It reminded me of earlier in spring training when they had Singleton in the booth and Hawk told him how hard he had to work and how much homework he needed to do. The next 3 or 4 Sox hitters Hawk had no clue as to who they were, even when the were announced on the PA.
  8. QUOTE(chisoxdavid @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I need some info on The Patio and Stadium Club at the Cell. How much is it, which one is better? I know the Patio is about an 1hr before the game and 1/2 during, and Stadium Club is during the game. It depends on what you are looking for. If you're looking to stuff your face and chug beers for one set price, the patio is what you want. The Stadium Club is a little fancier and you will be ordering off a menu with a waitress, and what ultimately will be a decent sized tab.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) In that video on chisox.com he says at the very beginning, "I'm day to day. Should be well playing by opening day." Funny how some quotes never make it into the media's stories. In the Sun-Times he was asked if he'd be ready by opening day and he answered, "That's a tough question". I think its best he sit in chilly weather, especially with Sabbathia on the mound.

I thought he just tweeked something and was taken out as a precatiounary measure? Now according to the article in the Tribune, he's not sure he'll be ready by opening night. Pods with a groin problem is something that seems to linger and if his legs are anything less than 100%, he really isn't an asset.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Jenks looked a little better today... fastball was constantly 92-93 although it hit 94 and 95 once. That one swing by Quentin could of been a HR or at least a double if it wasnt for the wind. Are you going by the gun that had Baj at 93?
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) HORRIBLE decision. Illinois wanted Sampson several years ago, but he turned them down. I can't remember if the Illini hired Krueger or Self instead. I believe it was Self.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) I doubt the Sox want to use Ozuna at 1B during the season unless completely necessary. Cintron makes Ozuna pretty expendable IMO, other than as a pinch-runner off the bench. Of course, Ozzie does love Ozuna. The Sox did fine with Gload at Charlotte last year. I really think Ozzie saying Thome is a DH is his way of justifying a roster spot for Gload, especially considering he did earn one. Ozzie used Dye at SS and Widger at 3B last year, I don't think he'd hesitate to put Thome at 1B if it became necessary. Mackowiak and Cintron can also play 1B, as well as Dye if the situation was desperate.
  14. At least we know something about this year's spring training. The Sox minor league camp is now loaded with left handed relief pitchers who suck.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) You are correct but he's still in camp, he has not been reassigned. I believe they're trying to work out a trade for Nomo, we should know soon. Would somebody actually give the Sox something for Nomo? Maybe if they threw him in a deal I would guess.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) My guess would be Thornton or Ozuna in that case, depending on how Thornton is pitching at the time. Ozuna has a split contract. I think the Sox would risk one of them to waivers trying to sneak them to AAA to add another reliever. Gload is our backup 1B and fifth outfielder. The Sox don't want Thome playing 1B. He's our full-time DH. Ozuna can also play 1b in a pinch, and can pinch run and is a good bunter, something Ozzie loves. I thought Ozuna was also out of options. If the Sox need a first baseman there's always Bucky.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) I believe Chris Getz is the 26th man who will be off the 25-man roster soon. Looks like our roster is now set with both Logan and Thornton making the team. That's right. I don't know how to add. Thornton Logan Cotts Politte McCarthy Jenks If a couple of these guys struggle, it could mean a 12 man staff, and the demise of one Ross Gload.
  18. QUOTE(SouthsideBlitz @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Well they still got Nomo on the roster ... might just use him for one more start if they need him ... who's left? I believe he signed a minor league contract.
  19. Hermanson to the DL, Lopez to AAA, that makes 27. Did they do anything else? Comcast said they were going to get to 25 tonight. Maybe they are going to get another reliever.
  20. Good. Lopez has shown he has a tough time against major league hitters.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Just because people are coming to more games now, that doesn't necessarily mean they are new fans. In some cases, they are Sox fans who go to a few games when they are losing, and a whole bunch of games when they are winning. As has been said here before, Sox fans show up when there is a winning product on the field. Just something to keep in mind. And besides, if you don't get new fans sometime... you run out of fans. A lot of the new fans are season ticketholders only because that was the price they had to pay for WS tickets. There are more tickets available now on the season ticket exchange than there were at anytime last year, except for maybe the playoffs when they were putting ridiculous prices up to see if anyone would bite. If the Sox don't repeat, there is no doubt every person on the waiting list will have an opportunity next year for tickets with postseason priviledges.
  22. Why is it questioning any part of the White Sox team being pessimistic? There is another team in Chicago whose fans think all their players are hall of famers, I prefer to look at it objectively and realistically. The bullpen is a huge concern. The Sox won a lot of one run games last year. If Jenks stays in his funk, and guys like Thornton and Lopez are called on to get big outs, a lot of those 1 run victories can turn to losses. The offense should be a little better, maybe giving the bullpen a little room to work with, but if Jenks pitches like he did before he joined the White Sox organization, KW is going to have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Farmer thinks the Sox are worried, but not panicking yet, about Jenks last three outings. He obviously doesn't get his information from jphat007.
  24. If he has 2 or 3 more solid years, I think he's in. That fact that he has been nothing but class his whole career will help him if he's borderline. If he finishes with 550 homers, he's got to be in.
  25. Dick Allen replied to a post in a topic in Pale Hose Talk
Considering he was pitching on a minor league contract so he wasn't going to be any kind of financial burden if he made the team, there has to be a reason the Cardinals released Nelson. They, and they have seen him pitch more than anyone on this board this spring, may think he would be inneffective. Its possible those numbers he put up were put up against lower level guys. He basically is a ROOGY at this point, maybe they don't have room for that, but considering that's what he's been for several season, if that's the reason its curious as to why they would sign him in the first place. They could have tried to trade him, but evidently he has no trade value, or the terms of his contract prohibited that. He has had a reputation of not being a very good clubhouse guy, and is 39 years old. If he was so good, he wouldn't have modeled as many uniforms as he has the past several years. That said, Hawk has always seemed like a huge fan of his, and KW contemplated bringing him in a couple years ago. I'm sure they are thinking about it. I have been harping about the bullpen for several months, but I would not be upset if they passed on Nelson.
