The offense is pathetic.

Interest in Palmeiro ?
No to Palmiero. Besides if the Sox picked him up and won something there would be an asterik by it. Anybody who testifies before Congress that he never has done steriods after it was published in a book and then tests positive for steriods 2 months later to taint his accomplishment of 3000 hits, has to be one of the biggest idiots in the world.

Kenny Williams Injury Update
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) And I'm sure you would have heard a buzz. Good look alike I say. Kenny did say he hurt himself on Lake Michigan Saturday, and if that's a look a like its a pretty darn good one, with huge coincidence. It looked like a huge party, and I'm sure a lot of people would like their picture taken with Kenny. Its most likely just an innocent photo. The pictures above it give it an illusion of something other than that.

How to help our offense?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) The one thing I'm going to say just to argue with dick is I think messing with the 1-2 is the wrong way to handle things. They've been the catalysts all year and they shouldn't be moved around. If you moved Pods to ninth and made Iguchi the leadoff man, after Iguchi's first at bat, they still would be hitting in the same order they have been.

How to help our offense?
Here's what I would do. I would move Iguchi to the leadoff spot. Ozzie, himself said Iguchi has hit 30 points lower because of his #2 hole role. With the lack of scoring Pods is doing, its not worth that sacrifice. I would either return Uribe to the #2 hole (he hit well there last year, and probably would stay on the ball longer if he had to move runners along, which in turn would make him very dangerous) and put Pods ninth, or put Pods in the #2 hole and let him bunt and sacrifice Iguchi over (he would probably get a few hits this way) and keep Uribe ninth. Pods steals total is impressive, but his runs total is mediocre, and while it might not be his fault he isn't scoring more, it does show the problem with the smallball philosophy, never mind the fact that Pods really struggled the second half last season, and appears like that could happen again. Pods can steal second and third, but if nobody brings him in, its as worthless as a homerun with nobody on and 2 out in the bottom of the ninth in a 12-1 game. I still think they need another bat. Everett being out shows that this offense really is a house of cards. If they could acquire a guy who is a legitimate #3 hitter, and rotate everyone around, it would add depth as well as potency.

Did Comcast just say "you're watching Cubs baseball"?

Why was Giambi being held on? He wasn't going anywhere, and that would have been a DP

Wimpy ....
Wimpy didn't go public with the abuse story until 2002. His last season with the Sox was 1999, so if Hawk said anything to him it was because of personal private conversations. I don't know how those would become knowledge of anyone other than those 2. Wimpy, at least at the time he left said it was because he was asked to do more preparation for the games, and he said if you don't like how he did the games then he would leave. I take his word for it. Any other story obviously could be true, but why speculate?

Paul Konerko
Do you think it was just coincidence that the White Sox were reportedly willing to take $8.5 million a year of Griffey's salary, which is almost exactly what Konerko is making? I don't think Konerko is going to age well. A huge contract for 4 years is most likely regrettable.

Pretty cool article
Judging by the past few weeks, it looks like Pods has lost the art of stealing.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) OK, considering he's placed on waivers and such and everyone passes on him, would the trade be likely to happen soon? I would think the chances of the Cincinatti owners changing their minds is slim. He would have to be on the roster by Aug. 31st to be eligible for the post season. I wouldn't count on it, but stranger things have happened.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Since Griffey is in the NL, every NL team would have to pass on him. Then since we have the best AL record every AL team would have to pass on him in order for our claim to prevail. Slim just left town! It is with certainty that I tell you no team in MLB will make a waiver claim, considering he is still owed between $40-50 million, is getting a little long in the tooth, and has a big history of injuries. Slim leaving town would be the chance that anyone would claim him on waivers. Its not going to happen.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) They might try, but no way he ends up there. Reds would pull him, not gonna let him go to a divison rival. The Cards aren't cheap, but I can't see them taking that contract. The Reds wouldn't pull him. If you claim him on waivers, the Reds would be more than happy to let you eat the rest of his contract. He is not going to get claimed. It is far too risky.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
I'd be willing to bet Griffey already has or soon will pass through waivers.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) That's what I was wondering too. Why would they want Rogo if they have Casey and Dunn too? The prospects are secondary. The main reason the Reds would trade Griffey is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) From the first post in this thread... As far as I know Griffey is on a muti year contract. The $14 million I was writing about was not for 1 season. I'm sure with all the deferred payments and such, there is a sum closer to $50 million left on the contract. A team claiming him on waivers and being awarded him would be resposible for the balance of the contract without the Reds contributing a dime.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) The Yankees have never been afraid to spend money. If George can get a HOF like Ken Griffey to play in NY, I think he would be willing to spend $14 million on him. Heck, I would spend $14 million on him if I were JR just because he brings excitment and talent. Its more than $14 million.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Where do you get they have boatloads of money? If they had that much money laying around, why wouldn't they have gone after a real pitcher at the deadline instead of Shawn Chacon, Al Lieter, and Hideo Nomo? Exactly. Their payroll is $208 million. Their revenue sharing and luxury tax bill is around $100 million. They are about tapped out. If they could afford bringing Griffey on, he'd be in pinstripes right now.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Now that this is out, I don't think NY or Boston would let Griffey get through waivers. He probably already has gone through. I don't think there's the smallest chance either of these teams would risk having to take the entire portion remaining on his contract to block the White Sox from maybe acquiring him.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) aw man, i hope we can still get griffey, we could still really use a bat He will definitely clear waivers. Any team claiming him would have to assume his entire contract. Maybe this trade can be revisited in a couple of weeks if Junior can stay healthy. It would make a lot of sense for both teams. The White Sox could really use his bat and his presence in the line-up.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&#
If the Sox go 3-55 the rest of the season, Steve Phillips' prediction of a 72-90 season will be correct.

Monday Matinee Game Thread 8-1-05
This is the biggest problem with Buerhle's ejection. Hermanson is the 6th pitcher.
