  1. Pretty much all his free agent signings and trades for established players didn't quite work out as hoped. Robertson did pretty well but posters wanted to salary dump him after about 2 months. He is good with contract extensions. That is what he should stick with. They need a different look. One with KW also out of the way. It amazes me how fast this board went from bring back James Shields to sign all the free agents. This was a team that wouldn't pay Mark Buehrle $14 million a year, and it may have cost them a playoff berth in 2012. Tickets are cheaper, attendance is lower, but still now some actually think Harper and Machado is possibility. Hot stove makes reality go away.
  2. The correct answer is anytime RH and KW are selecting baseball talent, every White Sox fan should be skeptical. Maybe they will get it right. Recent history suggests otherwise. We will soon see if the dynamic has changed or it's more of the same. Suddenly thinking they are now contenders would make me wonder why they didn't think the same thing when they started this rebuild.
  3. The only thing they really have to lose at this point is future flexibility. So Harper, Machado, that would be good. A few of the other names mentioned I would question unless they were required to land the big fish. I don't see the point of a 38 year old DH or a 9 figure starter who doesn't have a track record of success if 2019 is another throwaway year. On the other hand, another 100 loss season would probably really hurt this team, so something needs to be done. If now it is time to start winning, I wonder if they were watching what I was watching.
  4. Theo traded Dylan Cease and Eloy for Q. There isn't a chance in hell he would trade Bryant for less than that return. Probably would even be more.
  5. Buster Olney reporting Kris Bryant is available. Trade for him and sign his BFF. Prince Theo would never let that happen, would he?
  6. Probably. I like Avi, and still think if healthy, he's probably a good hitter. And it looks like home runs are starting to pick up for him, but.............he has the body and gait of a fast guy who gets slow pretty quickly. He also rarely doesn't have leg problems. This is a guy they thought would be a star though, so it wouldn't be surprising if they held on.
  7. I get all that, and do think they have to do something, but if they aren't bringing in Machado or Harper, I don't see where Brantley or Cruz move the needle much , if at all, and if they really would be part of the team the next time the Sox contend. I guess we can hope that something clicks for 4 or 5 of these guys, and Abreu comes back better than ever, and Castillo puts his PED suspension behind him, and plays like he never needed them in the first place, and Avi looks like the 2017 version. And the pitchers all step up.
  8. Last offseason, most posters wanted no part of any free agent. Sox weren't ready to win...Now, there seems to be a lot more interest in a guy like this and Nelson Cruz. Is there something I am missing? What happened in 2018 that makes anyone think the Sox are anywhere near competing?
  9. I just have a hard time finding any logic in the belief that the way to reduce gun violence is more guns. Maybe they shoot this guy. Maybe they shoot more innocents. I think more guns means more people getting shot. This doesn't happen in every country to the degree it happens here. And there are more guns here than in other countries.
  10. I get that. I just don't see how trading Kluber helps them in their quest to win a WS. Is the goal to win it all now, or be decent 5 years from now?
  11. Harper brings a dynamic no other available player brings. He doesn't have to be the best player in baseball. But he is the one that gets the most attention. It would drastically change the perception of the White Sox. It is the one signing that would move the needle with season tickets, and coverage, ESPN would remember they exist, the Tribune would hire a beat writer, and it wouldn't be temporary. Boras bashed the AL Central the other day, White Sox included. So this is the longest of longshots. But JR knows what teams with stars do at the box office and with television ratings, so who knows, he isn't Michael Jordan, but maybe he's the Magic Johnson of MLB, so perhaps he goes nuts.
  12. I have no idea why they would even consider tearing what they have down right now. They have been given a gift in the fact no other team in their division is average. They need to play with this as long as they can. I guess they think trading some of their guys for prospects still keeps them good enough to win the division while addressing the future. I think they need to focus on being the best team they can be and try to win the WS.
  13. I am hoping for some sort of miracle, but doubtful. O-10, a lot closer to 0 for either. Both is even closer to 0. I do think signing Harper might be worth more to the White Sox than any other franchise. He puts them and keeps them on the map more than any other player IMO.even Mike Trout, he honestly might be worth $40 million a year to them, but I can not see JR going there.
  14. Yeah, and if Harper was meeting with JR at the UC, it wouldn't be during a Hawks game. It would be during down time.
  15. I think it's pretty much a toss up who is better, but I do agree, Harper is the most marketable, and probably the most marketable guy in baseball. Plus, he hits LH. Harper is a guy that really could change the White Sox pattern of being ignored. Maybe the only one.
  16. Has it even been confirmed that is what it was? I mentioned that what I thought was a possibility. It also may be since Harper tweeted wearing a Bulls hat, the Bulls decided to put something together to tweet back at him. Or it could be Bulls employees messing around. Or it could be that have a presentation for him made, but since the tweet with the Bulls hat, decided to add to it.
  17. I would think if you continue to do the same thing, the same stress will be put on the same ligament, and something is going to go wrong. I think it's been proven surgically repaired ligaments still explode.
  18. If the White Sox offer Harper $100 million more than any other team, like what happened with A Rod, you are correct, the pitch won't matter. One thing you do forget with ARod, is that he had his contract adjusted to move to NY. In fact, he agreed to adjust it even more to go to Boston, but the player's association said no dice.
  19. I don't have the slightest idea. I don't know these guys on twitter. I hope not. But I guess in the end, order of priority doesn't matter. Who you add does.
  20. And showing Bryce Harper he will be the White Sox Michael Jordan is a selling point. Especially if they have anywhere near the same success.
  21. If the money is similar, how you sell your organization and what he can expect his experience to be is very important. I don't think there is anyone thinking this particular thing would be something that made Harper sign with the White Sox. The White Sox wouldn't even think that. It's just some fun part of the presentation.
  22. You can spin it how you would like, but top priority to me considering these guys are all free agents and theoretically could sign a contract today, would mean the others are not top priority.
  23. Yes it's in that Atrium where Harpers name and number are on a ribbon board.
  24. Maybe. Maybe not. I never met Harper. And sure, if the money isn't right, it's meaningless. But other teams are doing it, so how would it look if the Sox said, you don't care about that, so we didn't bother? It isn't going to change their money offer. Maybe he is a Bulls fan. Maybe he loves Michael Jordan. If so, I bet they have MJ give him a message. It doesn't hurt the White Sox position. It might help. It's a small part of their pitch. I assume you have a resume. Do you know that depending on the employer, most can give a shit about most of it? But you have it on there anyway. Why? Because there is the possibiltiy it could matter in some small way.
  25. The original post said Corbin was the top priority. That means all the Machado/Harper stuff was BS. Then they "go for it" signing a 38 year old DH, and hoping against hope about 10 guys turn it around. It's been their blueprint for 12 years when they want to call themselves contenders. A woefully short roster, hoping for the best.
