  1. He just doesn't know the new rules. If he did, he would say wait until next April.
  2. Ozzie was an attention whore. Some thought it was his genius to take pressure off the players. It turns out it was just about him. Maybe his heart would be back in it after his layoff, but he was mailing it in the last few years. It's one of the reasons he got canned in Miami. He wouldn't even go on the field for BP or any drills. Joey Cora ran everything.
  3. If you hate bunts, you don't want guys like Ozzie, Renteria, or Vizquel managing your team.
  4. The exodus in Cleveland begins in earnest after this season. The entire AL Central will be in some form of rebuild. Stay the course, but if you have a shot at a couple of bargains if the big targets can't be had....you might be able to sneak in a good season. But a lot would still have to go right.
  5. With a lot of Detroit, Minnesota, KC, and even Baltimore on the remaining schedule, although you wouldn't believe it watching this series, their winning percentage should improve. It's what they do. They look awful now, but will look decent at times.
  6. So I guess you would endorse Kopech coming up and being a reliever/closer for a while, since that is what they did with Sale. Everything must be the same.
  7. BCBS is lowering the price of several Obamacare plans in IL for next period. Most insurers are only slightly raising prices.
  8. And what you will be giving up is control over 162 games when he is 28, which would seem to be when he would be at the top of his game, although there are no guarantees. That's the trade. I'll take the latter. If they needed him for a WC push, or were going to be stacked next year, that's one thing. I just don't think it's very realistic to think they will be very good in 2019. He'll have plenty of time to develop.
  9. What I don't understand is there is no outrage for holding guys out for Super 2. That's around 65 days service time. Just about equal to what Eloy has to go for the extra year of control. Think of all the would be HOFers this messed up.
  10. Keep in mind since becoming a professional, Eloy has taken most of September off. It doesn't seem to have slowed him down. I would guess not playing this September would be no different. So now you are talking a month and a half. How long do guys have to wait to get off of Super 2? Seems no one has an issue with that, The White Sox suck so bad I understand why everyone wants to see what may be their greatest toy. I would love to see it myself. But hold the horses. Let's think of the future. I really think if you are so concerned with him playing here and it screwing him up if he is held back, you really aren't so confident in him as a prospect.
  11. Acuna was with the Braves. Look at his numbers last year. Are you saying he wasn't ready for a September call up? They hold these guys out in September and some until the next Super 2. That is even longer than the Sox will hold out Eloy.
  12. We aren't talking a full year here. Right now, if he is called up today, it's less than 2 months, on a bad team, playing meaningless, AAA-like games. Acuna put up big numbers last year and didn't get the call up. Despite dominating Spring Training, he was sent back to AAA. It didn't screw him up forever. The only argument against is it will hurt his development. Yet there are no obvious examples of someone being kept at AAA too long, having it ruin his career.
  13. Acuna of the Braves had it happen this year. He's still doing OK.
  14. Bryant isn't the only one. George Springer, Carlos Correa. Francisco Lindor...all were held back for either the extra year or Super 2. It didn't crush their development.
  15. If the Sox were in contention, I would agree. But they are playing out the string. September games mean jack. We have been fooled so many times by outstanding September performances. How did they help Josh Fields and Jerry Owens and Brent Morel, and Lucas Giolito? If Eloy isn't going to be great, it won't be because they waiting until next year to call him up I know the team sucks now and the games are meaningless. At worst, the Sox are in the same situation in 7 years, and Eloy may not be a guy you really need that extra year at that point. I'll take the gamble. If he's going to be great, you think when he's 28 he should be peaking.
  16. It would be hard to really determine, but are there any examples of players who stayed a month or two too long in AAA and it appears that damaged their development ? And if so, was it temporary or permanent?
  17. Plus in the next 30 days it's going up to $15. Next month I'll probably move on the AMC A List for $20. 3 movies a week, and you don't have to be next to the theater to get a ticket. Except for RBG, all the movies I have seen, including smaller ones, were available at AMCs by me. And there are a couple of AMCs that aren't on Moviepass. For $5, it's worth the convenience, especially with what has been going on with the Moviepass the last several days. It was way too good to last.
  18. That's where I'm drawing the line. I am not stupid enough to think $68 million will be their record free agent contract much longer, but will they go into the Harper, Machado, Arenado stratosphere? That is one I just can't see.
  19. You have taken my post out of context. Again. I am saying for those who think keeping Eloy in AAA will "hurt his development", when he wasn't playing at all, his development doesn't appear to have been affected. But try again. What's remarkable is how your answer is always Moncada because you can't come up with any real logic to burn the service time now. 2 months of 21 year old Eloy isn't worth an entire year of 28 year old Eloy. You know that, but have boxed yourself into a corner, and can't admit it. It's pretty hysterical.
  20. Let it go. Moncada was going to play for a bad White Sox team no matter what. In fact, he didn't even make his major leagued debut with the White Sox.
  21. There's that, and Eloy was out injured for an extended period. How did that hurt his development? Keep in mind most September games are basically AAA games anyways for non contenders.
  22. People actually want to trade a full year of 28 year old Eloy for 2 months of 21 year old Eloy, on a team destined for at least 95 losses.
  23. I don't see how their development can be destroyed by an extra month or month and a half in AAA. If that is going to do damage, they aren't what we thought they are.
