It's really not an issue. 39 man roster. 2 guys on the 60 in Gonzalez and Farquar, who you wouldn't give major league contracts. So still 39. Clarkin, Danish, Gomez, Santiago, Shields, Garneau, Rondon, Skole, Cordell, LaMarre, easily outrighted. How many spots do they need? If more, there is more crap you can get rid of. This is a terrible team. For it to have 40 man roster issues this offseason is crazy.

I don't see why any should be concerned with the 40 man this offseason. I see at least 12 names on the current 40 man that if the White Sox punted on, no one would blink an eye. And there are several more that would be, who cares? as well.

If next year is a rebuilding year, which it certainly looks like, one thing to take from this season and others is don’t be too pissed over which relievers make the team opening day. You will see just about everyone by the end of the season.

I have no doubt they weren't offered crap. I just think, unless a guy is an absolute star, or really, really on fire making no money, expecting anything interesting flipping a reliever is a longshot. They paid Soria and Avila a decent amount between the two of them. What they paid them wasn't, IMO, worth what they eventually got for them. I don't think it's any big deal neither are with the team anymore, but I think while you can give them an A for effort trading for them, ultimately it's a D unless these guys they got for them somehow actually become useful.

For what they paid Soria and Avilan, the return is pretty weak. I think you could have just bought those guys for less.

Yes, but it's money they would have to pay if they somehow were awarded the claim. SF might have a luxury tax problem as well, and I do think there is some reciprocity. Some year when the Giants are contending and the Dodgers not, if they claimed him this year, maybe that happens the wrong way for them in the future. I would think he would get a lot of pressure from the union if he even considered it. I could see he might be doing an honorable thing if he walked away after injuring himself doing something other than playing the game. I would also wonder if money were not important, why he signed the contract he signed. I just think it's Kaplan thinking up his dream scenario. And I actually like Kaplan, even though he's a Cubs fan.
